Hi, I doubt that you would remember me, but I wrote about a water filter that was messed up in my basement. It ended up being needed to be replaced and happy that it is taken care of, though still thankful for your helpful advice :)

These 20 inch sumps are HEAVY when filled with water. If you can, try to place them at a height where when you unscrew them, you can get control of that weight. If you drop one on concrete you can break it.You could install a shelf just below the unscrewed height of the sump(s) so if you do drop it, it will only fall an inch or two. Then you can gain control of the sump and pull it out to service it. I always keep two spare sumps and one top housing on standby to replace one if necessary. My system is one spin down and two big blue and there is a bypass loop so if there is a failure in any part of the filter circuit, I can bypass it and get water to the house. By keeping a sump and a top housing on spare, you can clean your pleated filter in the sump full of water and oxalic acid, and then back flush it by shooting water in the output side of the housing. As shown here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2XHXqeod9CSeK8si=-KGvc7gIY7UJNIWB

Thank you for the video demo. I just bought a home with an existing filter and housing already in place and I’ve purchased additional filters for the unit. My question is minor though. The previous owner only had the filter housing resting on blocks instead of mounted with the bracket you have shown. I ordered a bracket and thought I could figure out the proper screw size until I realized they needed to be self tapping screws. Could you tell me what size the screws should be? Thank you. Paul

Confidence building presentation, but I still have questions. As a general matter, would the 4.5 x 20 filter be better than the smaller ones, like 2.5 x 20 or 4.5 x 10? And do you have a recommendation for using Citrus or Citric Acid instead of salt systems for descaling/water softening?
@martyvanord9846 ай бұрын
The "BEST" size is relative to how clean your water is. A 2.5 might work for city water but will clog up very quickly on murky well water. I have seen a pile of around 20 clogged filters under a small 10 inch filter that was filtering cloudy water mixed with rust chunks. 4.5 BY 20 inch housing fitted with a pleated filter allowed a year and a half service with out change out. Do you want to risk paying for 2 filters and doing the job twice? Experience is a great teacher. Those 4.5 filters by 20 are very heavy when full of water. I wish you good choices.

Does this filter have any metal parts in it or is it all plastic? I have one smaller filter, on the inner side under this red pressure button, there is metal screw. I need to filter water with high concentration of salt in it, and in time salt will start dissolving any metal parts, so i will end up with high concentration of heavy metals in the solution i filter. Filter i have is too small, this 20 inch one is perfect.

Great video, and everything was easy to understand except the part about dealing with the packing peanuts. I noticed that you were dealing with green packing peanuts. My question is if the peanuts were a different color would would you handle them in a different manner, or would the process be the same? Also, is it necessary to wear any special safety equipment when dealing with the packing peanuts, and if so does the specific equipment used vary depending on the color of the packing peanuts? I just don't feel safe around packing peanuts.

Leaking from the filter housing? Most likely the O-Ring. Check it to see if it is kinked or it may even need to be replaced.

Can this filter be installed sideways? I got my lines on top of the attic, but I can get to the main line as it goes up the wall.
@cambear66428 жыл бұрын
In reply to Mars Flee "question" Although the question is old, I do not see any replies. I will reply/comment for future viewers/readers. Cartridge Filtration Systems were intended to be installed upright with the sumps/bowls downwards. However, You can install most if not all Cartridge Filtration Systems in a position/orientation to suit your application and layout. Unfortunately, an air-lock situation will occur and may or may not fully clear itself! More on air-lock below! Some things to keep in mind! 1) If you are located in an area of the country that experiences winters and where the water lines can freeze, "Never install plumbing and or filtration in an attic space unless you can effectively and continuously heat that space"! 2) Should you wish to install in an inverted (head down and sump upwards) position, you would encounter one obvious potential problem. When it comes to change the cartridge and clean the sump/bowl and as you undo the sump/bowl, water will suddenly leak out uncontrollably. It is important to shut off the water supply and drain down the water from the filter by opening a faucet in the bathroom as an example. That is a lot of work, takes a long time to complete along with turning the water supply back on and priming the whole plumbing system whereas water is once again coming out of the faucet! 3) With that all said and you still wish to install the system filtration in a inverted position; you should also install two shut-off/isolation valves and one valve called a "Hose Bib". Install one shut-off valve 6" to 10" before the filtration and one shut-off valve at least 10" after the filtration. At a point about 6" after filtration and before that 2nd shut-off valve, install the hose bib with the outlet facing down. Using this method will allow you to simply and easily isolate the filtration unit, drain the water from the sump/bowl into a bucket and unscrew/remove the sump/bowl from the head with only drips of water in most cases. Keep some towels or rags handy! 4) Once you have serviced the filtration system and have it back together, you can a) Shut off the hose bib. b) Open the supply water shut-off valve slowly until wide open and check/observe for any leaks at the sump/bowl to head gasket. c) Open slowly the 2nd shut-off valve while still checking for leaks. d) open a faucet fully and allow water to flow for at least 10 minutes. Important Note: If your filtration system has a built-in button vent or valve in the head assembly, "DO NOT" operate it. You will have water rushing/spraying out all over! 5) Keep in mind that.....In the inverted position an air-lock will occur at what is now the top of the inverted sump/bowl. Over time, the air will gradually be carried out with water flow. However, you may end up with a constant air-lock of anywhere from 25 to 75% of the sump/bowl. That means you have a greatly reduced filtering capacity as only the part of the cartridge in contact with water is actually doing the filtering! Note: I have many times modified the bottom of the sump and installed an air vent to purge the air and fully prime the sump/bowl. Having said that, I would not recommend a novice to try it as the end result could well end up with the sump/bowl cracking and then a potential for serious flood/water damages! Finally: After all said and done, is it worth installing the filtration system in any position other than which it was intended? You decide for your application/situation! Cheers..

Thank you Cam Bear. I took no chances and installed it the right way. I thought about the air pocket that builds inside every time you have to change the filters and foresaw that it would be a problem getting the air out. Thank you for the answer. (You're a good man)

@martyvanord9846 ай бұрын
If you go with 4.5x 20, then you get max pressure. 4.5 x 10 will cut the pressure in half.
@cambear66428 жыл бұрын
Correction! Water pressure does not decrease from one side of the filter to the other. when the tap is closed, the water pressure is the same on the exit side as it is on the inlet side! What does in fact happen is that when the tap (any tap) is opened and water flow occurs, both the inlet pressure and outlet pressure will slightly decrease and granted more so on the exit side. The filter creates a restriction between the source/supply and the tap. A constant flow takes place and as the filter cartridge accumulates dirt and debri over time it will decrease the flow even more. Yes yes you got to the 25 psi difference due to accumulation, etc; but, once the tap is turned off, the pressure again will be equalize no mater how dirty the filter cartridge is! If you are going to act professional and give advice to the world, at least get the facts right. It ruins the whole presentation if you get it wrong! I might add that using channel lock pliers on hex fittings is a poor choice and is a show of a sloppy installer "in my opinion"! Channel lock pliers can and will damage fittings! You spoke of the importance and necessity to also install a bypass line and yet you fail to demonstrate that! 5 out of 10 on this video..
@uswatersystems8 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. We will consider your thoughts in future videos. However, this video was intended to help our novice residential customers install their filters and was never intended to be a presentation that was looking for an award or any red carpet affairs. I am somewhat incredulous with one of your comments “Yes yes you got to the 25 psi difference due to accumulation, etc; but, once the tap is turned off, the pressure again will be equalize no matter how dirty the filter cartridge is!” Does it make any difference what the pressure drop is when the water is off? NO! It makes no difference what the pressure is unless you are running water. HELLO? That’s when the flow diminishes. In reference to the channel locks, I disagree - if you use a 12” crescent wrench or a 7/8” boxed end wrench to tighten a plastic fitting, it easily slips off as the fitting gets tight and rounds the corners. Yes, you can damage fittings with a channel lock, but you can also damage it with a wrench. Regardless of how you do it, you have to be careful. However I have 45 years of plumbing experience. I earned my Plumbing Contractor’s License 41 years ago and I would NEVER use anything except channel locks on a fitting like that. We do agree with some of what you said. We just don’t know what the intent is? Is it to point out others technical shortcomings? This was made for the average DIY guy, not a professional and we made it from that standpoint. Is it to better your self-esteem or is it that you have made a video which explain it better? Please supply the link. I’d love to see it. Thank you for your input although unnecessary and uninspiring.
