The fact that Michael Cole has a job in WWE and Tony doesn't is a travesty.
@terryceroni82196 жыл бұрын
Nailed it^. Schiavone was an awesome play-by-play guy. I preferred him over JR even once I started liking the WWF product more. I've come to appreciate JR over the years, but I still think Schiavone was the ultimate straight man whereas JR went WAY over the top kissing Austin's ass during the Attitude Era.

I would replace Michael with Tony in an heartbeat
@unmitigateddisaster37934 жыл бұрын
@@terryceroni8219 In JR's defense, Austin was a mega-babyface and it's his job to push the guy to the moon on commentary. Tony did the exact same thing with Hogan before he turned - both did it well, and honestly Tony had the much harder job because unlike Austin Hogan in the mid-90s as a babyface was NOT working.

If you feel Heenan questioning "who's side is he on?" detracts from Hogan's turn, obviously didn't follow the Brain or Hogan's career prior to WcW. Heel or face, Bobby's ongoing "gimmick" was never trusting Hogan in any capacity.
@eddypimp6 жыл бұрын
Marvin Sulaiman those people are morons for thinking that. Heenan was right to question him since he has said in promos about Hogan being fake. Heenan had a great character with a great gimmick.
@marves79606 жыл бұрын
edward welsh Absolutely! Somebody that knows what hes talking about finally! Bobby Heenan played his role so well, we really thought that he did not like Hogan in real life too. He was Hogan's biggest backer and they stayed close until the day of his passing. I believe Hogan also wrote an excerpt in Heenan's book too. Bobby Heenan had such a beautiful and brilliant mind for this industry, I was upset when I heard that he was constantly told to mind his own business when he offered suggestions in WcW.

Watching all these old WCW Nitros and PPVs for the first time, and when I got to the "Hulk Hogan you can go straight to hell." comment I got massive goosebumps. It was so real, the anger and disappointment in his voice were so profound. It's the best call I've ever heard. Tony is so good at his job it's shocking, and this is from a WWF mark who grew up on Jim Ross. I don't even hate the 'whose side is he on!' thing from Bobby. That's EXACTLY what his character would say. It didn't spoil anything because we were used to Bobby claiming Hogan was fake at every opportunity. If anything it reinforced the craziness of his turn because we all realized that Bobby Heenan was RIGHT all along.

Great show. WHW is probably the best of these podcasts. Tony's a fun down to earth guy with great insight into the business, but also he gives his honest opinion. Its great reliving this whole time. Have to say I didn't have a problem with Heenan's comedy during the Mysterio/Psychsis match. I found it funny, it didn't seem like Heenan was trying to bury the match to me.

These guys are funny as hell! I always thought Schiavone was a stiff, but when he's not being professional on the job he's a riot. I respect him a lot now too, Heenan buried him bad, and he's still saying he loved Bobby and Bobby was great. I don't think I could be like that.
@JMFSpike3 жыл бұрын
I think that one has to understand where Bobby was coming from. They'd worked together for many years and he considered Tony a good friend, so when Tony didn't keep in contact with Heenan after WCW ended, it really hurt him in a big way. When someone is hurt like that, they sometimes react by doing exactly what Heenan did. I suppose trashing them is a way to get revenge in their minds. All things considered, I wouldn't be too hard on Bobby. He was only human, and Tony admitted years ago in an interview that it was his fault and felt really bad about it. Tony said that Bobby was a guy who always liked to stay in contact with everyone, and Tony just wasn't like that.

Tony said what I've been saying for years. Heenan did not spoil Hogan as the third man, as he walked to the ring. Heenan had made an (announcing) career out of being a Hogan hater, up until that point. It only made sense that he'd try to make everyone think Hogan was the third man. In that moment, given Heenan's history, it almost helped continue the element of surprise because if you're a fan, you hear that and you think, "oh yeah, sure Bobby. Hogan's really a bad guy." And then when he drops that leg and you find out he really is, it's that much more of a shock.
@Zanatos94 жыл бұрын
I agree, had anyone been watching Nitro and previous PPVs they would know that Heenan constantly said Hogan was a bum, scammer and was upto no good. He would double Cross anyone if he could. So the comment during the PPV was normal.

If a heel can make you hate him over any other wrestler he did his job.. much like a jobber losing every week. Takes 2 to tango and this creates the stars we know today. I think they needed Hogan cause he had 2 shows left on his contract. Chances were pretty good that Vince would try to get him back. It was interesting how the announcers were almost made to look stupid cause they didnt know ahead of time that Hogan was coming. The Carson City Silver Dollar match was a giant cluster fuck. I think the producers wanted shits and giggles. Tenta and Rogers werent going to climb that pole. It didnt take rocket science to figure that out.
