My first trip to the Phillipines is coming up in March. Im really looking to retire eventually somewhere in Asia. I think its important to visit a place to scout if thats something thats for you. I do see value in listening to youtubers and people who have been there before you, but you have to get your own boots on the ground.

I live in the Philippines and gave a good province girl. As far as I am aware, I have never even seen a bar girl. I have never been to a bar over here for sure. The problems you mentioned depend on the decisions of the individual expat, not all expats have the same experience. My biggest issue is not finding a good cut of beef. It's actually tiring and often stressful, not exciting, to have to go out or travel a lot. Not ashamed to admit, I enjoy being a homebody (save a LOT of cash that way too), and working with my hobbies. I cannot be with a partner who is inwardly restless and has to always go, go, go. If you love dealing with heavy, slow moving traffic, more power to you. However, I must have AC in this hot climate. It's hard to understand how expats do without it. Finally, if you want to live a long, healthy life, right diet and exercise are a MUST. Get up and get moving. That all being said, the Philippines is not the greatest place on earth, nor the cheapest. Travel to other countries or, at the very least, spend several months to a year here before you commit.

That home sickness can be a struggle. Making new friends in the Philippines is also a struggle when it comes to language barriers and cultural differences. I was lucky to get over that by joining the army when I was 18, and my 1st duty station was overseas. Granted, I had other soldiers to make friends with, but I still struggled with home sickness. However, I couldn't just leave. I had to learn to deal with it.

What I find is that the ones who don't make it don't plan properly. They trust the wrong woman with things they should trust no one with, their money. Gets a woman and start simpong and do too much for that women. Also addiction because vices are cheap for a westerner and they overindulge in all of that. Glad that you actually talked about that because many channels seem to not talk of that. First time I was in Angeles years back and seen an American on the street begging and I was shocked!

Living a western lifestyle in the Philippines is definitely expensive. They come here to expecting the same lifestyle for half the price, and that just isn't realistic. It's actually more expensive to live a western life style in the Philippines vs. the US. Especially if you want western style foods. Beef is absolutely expensive here.
@JamesHickman-g5c7 минут бұрын
@@keinlieb3818 Is there any one western lifestyle? Probably not. Good food, exercise, and sunshine is all you really need. Well, AC, too. People that say 'western lifestyle' often really mean 'tourist mode' where they feel compelled to travel and eat out a lot (did we do that in the West? I didn't). True, some foods are expensive or even impossible to find; however, eating healthy is not hard if you cook at home. Actually, I don't believe it's western lifestyle that breaks the bank, rather it's being with a woman who is too expensive for you and/or treats you like an ATM. Many expats couple with a single mother or bar girl, and pay a premium for that.

The biggest thing in the I believe it's the most important thing is a steady monthly income every month. Most of us can't retire yet so to just pack up and move to the Philippines and knowing that you financially don't have a steady income. I can understand if you have a lot of money saved up. And you can just up and leave. The money you have saved for a long time will run out. If you don't have a steady income that is what I believe is most important.

Lack of certain usa Standards 6. Immigration expense 7. Mobility(too many people on the street) 8. Water outages 9. Brown outs 10. Dollar value(Cash Money Talks BS walks) 10. The Malls 11. Wet Markets & their variety of fruits & veggies 12. Its a few more....

Also, finding a job there is almost impossible, Homelessness is rampant, and people beg and harass you for money. You need a reliable source of income, like a good pension or remote job. Also, don't move to another country for a woman. Go because you want more.

No matter what you did in your home country and how successful you were, this place is different. Yes, we can speak the same language but the culture difference is much more than new expats realize. You must come here and crawl, walk then run, there is no shortcut to the learning curve, it takes 12-18 months before you start to understand the culture here. New guys need to take the first year and focus on what they want retirement life to look like and learn about the country. Dating and finding a new wife should not be your number one goal at the start, give it time and when you do start dating go very slow with everything especially marriage. If you can make it past 8 years you should be good to go, for me the 8th year is when everything seems to hit at once and you realize just how hard living here can be. Be patient, and be flexible with everything and always have plan a, b and c for every possible scenario that could arise here. And yes you can live well on $1500 a month, especially in a small town or province. Life can be very good here but it takes hard work, time and a little luck.

Well it's up to what a particular individual feels comfortable with as far as a monthly budget is concerned. While I do have access to more, I only allot myself $1,500 each month. I live in a condo in a gated community with 24 hour guards, and within 5 minutes walk of a SM Mall. I have a girlfriend and I go places for entertainment and eat out etc, and I still save almost 400 every month. I live about an hour and a half outside of Manila, but go there to hangout pretty often. So location is key, and of course what you like to do. But most guys don't need to spend more than $1,500 a month to live pretty well in the Philippines, unless they're money wasters and don't plan out their expenditures well. But if you want to live in BGC and eat western food daily, then yeah, your probably looking at $3,000 and up depending.
