Good evening TGV, greetings from Germany 😁 Thank you for giving us Germany some horological acknowledgement. As you might know, I'm a Sinn-guy, but a A.Lange & Söhne would be a thing! Have a great evening! Best regards!

Unbelievably how the selection of the time zones works. It's basically like a mechanical computer that allows changing the mode to interfere with the running program. When thinking of German design though, I'm more inclined to think of rather straightforward examples like Nomos and Junghans. But that's just taste after all.

If you want to know why the dial is so legible while having so many complications, look up how the design came about. The dial has the golden ratio all over it. The design is very special, this is not a random layout in any way.

Great to see that you like German watches... A.Lange is for sure the top notch of watch making, but it plays in a class which most of us could never afford... If you want to experience German watch making with a very innovative brand with great history which dates back to 1900, than you might have a look at the sadly forgotten brand Bifora from Schwäbisch Gmünd. The had the 1st German lever escapement wrist watch movement in 1928 - the first German automatic movement in 1951 - the first German Ladies automatic movement in 1960 ... everything completely in-house except for the springs!!! Watches of this brand which was at one point the biggest watch manufacturer in Germany can be found for less then 100,-€ and could still be serviced at the factory in Schwäbisch Gmünd.

Nice to see you bought a German watch. ALS are imho at the top of the tree and exceed PP in terms of quality and design. Even at the lower price points, German watches exceed the Swiss in quality. Nomos, Stowa, Sinn etc all offer better movements, some in house or higher grade ETA than in the Swiss equivalent brands at those price points. Despite the hype, Sellita movements offered in many Swiss brands are not as good as well made as ETA despite being the same or very similar design. You mention the ALS is German Silver. This is just Nickel Silver and contains no Silver at all.

Hi TGV Truly fantastic. All discussions about modern versus classic stops here, there’s no point. Such a technological marvel contained in an all time classic style. Great review. A big fan of your channel. 1 small comment. When you are talking while holding the watch in close shots, perhaps you could hold the watch steady as you are making a point. You might not be aware of it because you are trying to emphasize on a point, but it's quite nauseating. You can see it at around 5:16 and 11:00 I guess I'm nitpicking on an otherwise amazing channel. Keep up the good work.

Also, a lot of people dont necessarily think of Germany when they talk about Swiss Made. But Switzerland is sort of the "melting pot" between France, Italy and Germany. So of course there is a lot of German descent in Swiss watches. I love that history and I think a lot of people don't know those details, and that when they buy a Swiss watch, they are buying a bit of Geman DNA in there. It really is a beautiful thing to see. And the heritage just puts it in the stratosphere.

...I see other countries have adopted Norway’s concept of “slow TV” in the back there. Hours and hours of TV where you watch a full 5-day cruise of the Norwegian coast and fjords literally “minute-by-minute” in real time. Or a 7-hour train journey. Or knitting sweaters, or singing all the songs in the book of psalms, or hiking over mountains for days....in real time! Sounds boring...is boring......but mesmerizingly hypnotic and satisfying! A lot like staring at the inner workings of our watches :-)

@theurbangentry4 жыл бұрын
So funny you say that, I edit out a whole long ramble about precisely that! I wears exactly like a A23322 now you mention it, but unlike the Navtitimer (that is supposed to be oversized) this is more for the larger wrist IMO. Great minds obviously Michael ;-) Thank you Micheal, excellent comment. Best regards, TGV

@@theurbangentry Great stuff :-D Would have loved to see that ramble... haha, but I think I understand why you think the design of the Lange requires a slightly larger wrist than the Navi.
