I love the detail in this thank you. The Nautilus quad works well in small and large waves. Mine is Futures. It's 7.0 at about 44L

Hi, love the video !!!!! Appart from my shorties, I ride a Lost Smooth Operator 6´10 about 43L, and its a dely! I found important the fin configuration depending on the waves. When its slopy up to head high, I use the FCS Machado Keel, they hold and project with speed allowing for good turns and cut backs. When its solid, up to double over head, I use a quad set up with FCS accelerator at the front and performance back fins. You have to consider this type of boards for long runners to experience the joy the board offers.

Was conscious I'd left Lost off but they are hard boards to get hold of here for a look. Fins setups so important.

Take a look at the Boss Up from Slater Design. It is a stretched out shortboard and rides really well. I demoed one and now saving my pennies also. It’s really fast and maneuverable for a mid length. So much fun to ride.

I had a Seaside for a short while. It was Helium and felt good. Imagine the Boss Up would go well. Looks like it's the replacement for the hole left by the Mid6, maybe more like the Mid6 Mini.

"Ahh, I wish I knew this before I bought my first middy. I ride 5'6 shortboards and I delved into mids by getting a mid from a log shaper. He tucked the edge in the tail. It was so tracky. I could crack it, but not snap it. Just got a Firewire Boss Up, it's insane. It snaps at 6.10, I've done frontside, backside airs and blown the tail on it. It goes!"

As a surfboard shaper one thing to pick up here is volume. The majority of these boards come in at 40 Litres. Personally I’m more interested in dimensions not volume. But if you wanted to change volume in any design, minor changes in the boards thickness or foil, nose to tail will have the biggest impact on volume. For example in these designs, 1 or 2 mm changes in thickness would push volume up by about 1.5 to 2 litres. So you don’t necessarily need to increase length. Cheers
@tui_ruwhiu_wavecomms
@tui_ruwhiu_wavecomms 2 ай бұрын
Good to have a shaper chime in. I did notice that they were all around the 40l mark. Wasn't looking at the volume when I picked these boards, but the length. For a bigger guy wanting more volume at this length, or somebody wanting just more volume, that's a good tip.

@@tui_ruwhiu_wavecomms you hit the nail on the head staying with a set length. Focusing on performance for the waves you experience day in, day out. For sure you would have noticed the differences in rocker and rails shapers. Great video, nice work 👏

I am a little off-topic, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Jim Banks Revolution, with his Future Form bottom? Our local shaper has made a test board with similar bottom contours for us all to try. Lots have tested it, including myself, and it's messed with all our brains. Im not yet sold and still in the research stage, but it took off like no other board I have ridden. He could well be onto something. We are surfing punching, hollow beach breaks.

Looks like a really interesting board. Can't get them here so I can't handle, and I've never seen one. Not a mid-length as such. That extended vee seems to find favour with some shapers, Chris Christenson being one. Not much of a twin finner, myself. Remember being out at Uluwatu in the early eighties with Jim Banks. He was destroying it and riding twin fins then, too, from memory.

Hello, I've been following your search for the perfect board. I'm in a bit of the same situation. I'm 47 years old and weigh 86kg. I bought the Big Baron 6.8 38L but it was a mistake, and it's a very specific board, it turns very well but has no rocker and can only be used in twin configuration. I live in Portugal and surf mostly hollow waves were i live and I ended up buying the Al Merrick Big Happy 6.4 and I'm happy, it's good for paddling and turns very well, it's a high performance board but with volume on the front. Of the boards you presented, I would go for the mid strength or M13. I believe that the Harley Ingleby Mini Moe is a good board but only in windless seas. The fish boards like seaside are another style of surf and i am a PU guy i have selled all my epoxy boards
