Hi Dave … I use mostly dichlor or cal Hypo … I don’t use much of any liquid and I’ve been okay.. am I wrong on that … what’s your thoughts?

It depends. Liquid is a good alternative to both. Dichlor does add CYA.

If you don't mind me jumping in the mix Dave, my experience is CYA being too high is definitely an Issue as David says. In places where it rains alot using dichlor or trichlor isn't an issue in rising CYA. Also if you have a leak below grade you may not have an issue. Sometimes depending on TDS,PHOSPHATES,and NITRATES, the CYA could get up to 300 or so without causing too much issue with algae. Once it gets around 350 though, you will have a nasty mess. Its almost like a switch was flipped. It used to be reffered to as "chlorine lock" .
