Izzy got robbed in their first kickboxing fight. Alex was the better kickboxer but Izzy has the superior legacy in MMA. Yes he's not a two-division champ, but that accolade is overrated because one can become a double-champ through favourable circumstances as was the case with Alex, in fact most two-division champions in the UFC had very favourable circumstances, the only ones who didn't was Cormier, Couture and Penn. Being a dominant defending champion is more impressive. Jan did not 'easily defeat' Izzy at 205. Jan won by edging out 2 of 3 rounds on the feet, and using his size to control Izzy for the remainder of the fight. Had he not utilized his wrestling, he probably would have lost rounds 4 and 5 because he was gassing out.

I agree that Pereira did his call-out out of love and respect for his greatest rival, but I have a small counterpoint. Poatan is 36 years old. His biggest money fight in the UFC has been and likely always will be Izzy. If Izzy takes a three-year sabbatical, Pereira won't get another crack at him until he's 39 years old at earliest. Who knows what will have happened between now and then. Will he be able to defend against contenders like Hill and Ankalaev? Will he even still be relevant in 2027? Izzy will be-he'll get the Jon Jones/GSP return of the king treatment-but who knows where Pereira will be when he's 39. For him, the window to milk this rivalry is shutting much more quickly than it is for Izzy.

“Come to daddy”, if another man says come to daddy to another man in the context of fighting how the hell is anyone not gonna take offense?
@ghost33376 ай бұрын
@bloomaugustine8130 easy, he said he was returning the favor, izzy motivated him back then with his comments. The "come to daddy" was a purposeful jab to incite izzy to fight. Really is just some WWE ass line, ppl acting like it's the most disrespectful shit ever just to justify izzy completely jumping out the window with his reaction to it.

Pereira really saved 2 divisions in the UFC, that alone makes him a legend!

I don't like Adesanya at all, but I still have to give the guy credit for being an entertaining champion and having a great rivalry with Pereira. It was a great storyline, and it really aligned well, since Adesanya was clearly getting 0 competition from the middleweight division at the time, and Poatan and him were pretty much the only ones who could beat each other. The fight with Alex / Adesanya were legendary, and the way Izzy ate his words was also insane to see as well.

Alex is right in that Izzy shouldnt waste his talent. Age wise Izzy is definitely past the mid point of his prime and if he wants to cement his legacy in combat sports it had to be now. While Alex defends against Jamahal Hill, Izzy should rematch Sean Strickland to regain his title. After that, the fight to make is Alex vs Izzy 3 at LHW. Seems unfair to give Izzy another title shot at LHW but then again this is the UFC, if the fight will make big bucks they'll make it happen.

Although I agree the story in alex vs izzy is insane, the pure hatred and disgust jones and dc had cant be matched

Dude had me at “middle weight division was boring because it was headed by 1 guy” 😂 Middleweight is full of killers your crazy
@UsykWillBeatFuryViaEzDecision6 ай бұрын
Middleweight was boring, the only other contender people took seriously was rob. Everyone looked at sean and DDP as jokes, costa is a troll. And marvin is super mid in every aspect. And jared already got owned by izzy and Rob.

You couldn’t write a more engaging and thematic script! I’d still love to see DDP and Khamzat get a crack at Adesanya before he gets catapulted to a LHW title shot.

@SM-nz9ff4 ай бұрын
He didn't even mention that yikes. Guess the youngins are really in huh shows you how this happens though because those of us old enough to actually watch these sports for longer actually have input on more and its not a case of "back in my day" because no one argues that the UFC was better back then it wasn't but clearly a better rivalry overall to this point at least. But also hard for someone who wasn't there to actually input in hindsight - its the weird thing about age/eras huh he can't really in hindsight grade it

You guys desperately want to call Izzy the drunk guy at the bar after he cleared out the entire division with relative ease where Alex has done none or even held a title for more than one match, Izzy is not the villain you want him to be so desperately, he’s highlyaccomplished multimillionaire who does not need Alex and is entitled to a break if he wants one, just like John Jones, once Alex survives the title defense and is as active as izzy was then let’s talk about how they compare, all you hype casuals are so boring
