The thing with Shad fitting all the way in the barrel, remember that the dwarves are shorter than a human so they would have an easier time and probably be more comfortable.
@benkayvfalsifier38173 жыл бұрын
Even dwarves wouldn't be able to do it. It's not so much the entity inside the barrel as it is the barrel's shape. The point-of-balance of the barrel is center of its side because that is the largest area. It would be better if they had a larger barrel and cut it down the center. I guarentee it would float better.
@SamnissArandeen3 жыл бұрын
Where did the dwarves get the oxygen if they were sealed in the barrel?
@cyryl38273 жыл бұрын
@@SamnissArandeen I think a regular sized chest has enough oxygen to keep you alive for a dozen hours. A barrel should be similar. but i think they were also in those barrels for a bit longer than that.
@SamnissArandeen3 жыл бұрын
@@cyryl3827 minus the space taken up by the being within, and failing to account for the exhaled CO2 increasing in concentration as time passes causing carbon dioxide poisoning. Apollo 13 ran into similar problems (plenty of oxygen, also plenty of carbon dioxide), hence the famous scene in the film adaptation where they make a new scrubber out of duct tape.
@tmonkeyking24243 жыл бұрын
Depending on the source, dwarves are much shorter, and may or may not be heavier than adult humans... but they would certainly have a much lower center of gravity that would sit below the water line, which would do a lot to keep the barrel upright (especially if they weren't constantly trying to poke their heads out). The trick Shad & co use here - adding water to the barrel - does basically this same thing by adding more weight to the bottom of the barrel. Arguably, a hobbit would have a much worse time of it due to not having as much weight to keep the barrel upright.

As a New Englander I would remind my Minnesotian friend, that their version of "cold water" probably doesn't align with ours. Avg ocean temp there is 75F in winter 86F summer. Here it's 70F summer 39.7F in the winter, October here: probably high 50s, low 60s. Lake superior for example: high of about 71 lows in the 40s..... They have no idea what cold water even is brah. I have done the polar bear challenge where you go for a very quick dip in the ocean on new years day. 🥶 That's cold. October spending half a day in 50 something degree water - I'm sure that left you cold for days. Never did it but I've been a landscaper and done snow removal, worked in the rain in cold weather sssuuuxxx they have no idea. 😂 What they think is intolerably cold you and I would probably find pleasant and similar to a pool water temperature. 🤣

Real wooden ships, which due to their masts are very tall and unstable in water, have ballast in order to stay upright - an open topped barrel like this is basically a strangely shaped tall boat, so the same applies. A person in a barrel is not good ballast - we're nearly the same density as water. The ballast has to be *denser* than water to counteract the air that's also in there. Otherwise, the part of the barrel below the surface will have a net density of below that of water and it will rise and tip.

I'm actually considering that now after seeing how frickin good he made it look. Normally I avoid nearly anything pre packaged etc.. I buy quarters and halves of cattle straight from farms/butcheries/slaughterhouses, as with lamb and turkey. I never ever buy it frozen. (I share/split the money with friends and family so we all have something where we know it came from). Our grocery stores, as the above is not possible all the time, tend to stock local produce and meat anyhow, very very little is imported crap. That 'pre seasoned' crap causes me to feel sick etc etc.. Don't even say 'hamburger helper or sidekicks pasta' to me. NO. But this actually looked like something that no joke looks perfectly fine and tasty and healthy. But with my countries rules, I don't even think foot items are legal to import anyhow. If so, there would be a fuckton of custom's stuff to contend with. But buying stuff like electronics from overseas is fine as that's frankly, where most is made anyhow. Actual manufacture is nearly gone in my country aside from chemicals for mining and paper production and medications, as well as a tiny automotive industry. Farming. That is huge. No food shortage here. No shopping bans for actual essentials and anything else can be shipped via Amazon.ca anyhow. We even have major radio control components suppliers so no need for that to spend TWO EFFING MONTHS TO COME FROM NEW YORK.. which from my parent's house, where I can just drive 3.5 hours too. Spend the night and come home.. Is an effing 5 hour drive for my dad who to this day still drives a truck because he loves the job. You get the idea of the sorta place I live and how I was raised if I find that food tasty. I'm almost like Shad minus the Latter Day Saints part of the Jesus Christ thing. Proud non denominational Christian here. I've got a lotta respect for the dude tho, even growing up as an effing junkie due to the childhood depression due to a random pedophile thing.

The thing is with barrels in real life is that it's happened enough times in ancient accounts that it warrants experimenting with. For example, according to the Anglo Saxon Chronicle, the giant Berserker that held off the English on the bridge was hit from underneath by an Englishman in a "half-barrel". Im curious to see what the outcome of that would be
