People thinking we plan to profit off this war in rare numbers are the type to look at trees. Not forests. The goal here is to further weaken and cripple russia as has been the goal since before ww1. @football42241
@football42241 Жыл бұрын
The USA's electrical grid was primarily built post WW2 in the 50s-70s. It's built using now obsoleted technology. It still functions fine, but it can't be expanded or built onto safely/economically. Nothing beyond small amounts. Too much unexpected load in certain areas can take that section of the grid down (like the Texas winter few years ago). The grid is also highly localized - it's like a handful of smaller grids (roughly 1-3 states in size) patched together, and spanning the entire country. The strength of this is that you cannot take down the entire US at once - you could, at worse, take down one section. Localization is a strength of the US in many ways, always has been, and it applies here too. The weakness is, well, obsoleted patchwork style grids that can't be added onto much more. The USA should make attempts at modernizing it's grid. It could provide millions of jobs that stayed in use for 1-2 decades. But for some reason there's no attempt to. The US has other outdated&decaying infrastructure, a lot of bridges/dams/etc, but apparently the cost to update these is not worthwhile, for those who make the decisions. There's your summary lol

@trillionbones89 The defence industry makes up about 3% of US GDP. Most of manufacturing in the US is of consumer products. If it was the other way round you guys would have the same problems the USSR had in the 1980s.

I agree. I've been saying this for some time and most people don't believe me: the US is economically positioned better than any other country in the world right now. Yeah, things aren't going very well anywhere, but if the US's political crisis turns out to be in the rearview mirror, then I'm fairly optimistic. Keep this channel alive. I know that there are near countless sources of info on the US out there, but I enjoy hearing about it from an "outsider" perspective. I watch this and channels like DW News and Le Monde to hear what Europeans think.

Just a few thoughts I had while watching. Yes, the USA fared relatively better than other nations in 2022, but there are still glaring issues we need to resolve: 1: Biden is an improvement over Trump, but he's a weak president overall. Good heart but bad leadership; a Jimmy Carter-esque political figure imho. I just hope and pray that in 2024, we will have new, younger, smarter candidates rather than re-hashing the 2020 election all over again with Biden V Trump. 2: If the USA keeps playing the role of world moral police and stretching ourselves thin, we will inevitably crumble from within like the Empires of old. My recommendation is the USA transition into a regional power to fix our flawed, undemocratic, oligarchal bipartisan system, improve our economic model, make our welfare programs more accessible and streamlined, free ourselves from our national debt, modernize infrastructure, greenify our energy (namely using Thorium nuclear power), and give our neighboring countries a helping hand (namely Mexico and other Central American nations; spending our money to make our neighbors safer and more democratic is better than building walls and turning a blind eye). 3: Our current capitalist system is inherently flawed and most working class Americans know this by now; with rising prices, inflation, the unelected and authoritarian 1% owning half the worlds' resources, and a dried-up job field demotivating thousands of employees. Economics should reflect our political system; the consent of the governed, a fair opportunity for everyone to be successful, and fairly elected leaders. This is the fundamental idea behind both original capitalism and socialism; our economic model is meant to be democratic and not oligarchal. (Edit) Thorium
@ChasmChaos
@ChasmChaos Жыл бұрын
Everything you said makes sense. Everything you said is also a fantasy. The powers that be want things to be the way they are. I don't see the US abandoning capitalism for decades, not with every politician in bed with every oligarch in the country.
@Brambrew
@Brambrew Жыл бұрын
@@ChasmChaos You're correct. But we can always hope. Especially if the American people set their bipartisan differences aside and join arms in solidarity to collectively fix our country. Whether it be through activism or straight up revolution. Even the Preamble of the Constitution urges We The People to overthrow the government if necessary. "That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, *that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it* , and to institute new government"

The US can't keep playing world police, but they can (and imo should) play world security guard. NATO and the alliances with Japan, South Korea, and Australia keep the world more stable and prevent nuclear proliferation from becoming a necessity for many countries. But yes, the US also needs to improve it's relations with it's southern neighbours. Also, learn how to spell thorium.
