anakin's lightsaber didn't turn red because it's not a frickin mood ring. it's a blue lightsaber crystal. the cannon wasn't changed until well after episode 3 was released. so so dumb, this whole idea of the crystals changing colours, and the sith sabers being red because of bleeding them that way. um... no. jedi controlled the crystal planets, so the sith created synthetic ones, which were red.

I prefer the current canon. If it requires the force to create a lightsaber, then it makes sense to have the crystals change color based on the power of the user. If it we're a normal piece of technology, then anyone could create a lightsaber and it wouldn't require the force at all.

In fact, Galen Erso tried for YEARS to synthesize kyber crystals, but discovered that it was IMPOSSIBLE to CREATE the intricacies of the interior latticework of the crystals. In short, there ARE NO synthetic crystals in Canon. As the DARTH VADER comic has shown us, a Sith must STEAL a Jedi's kyber to power their saber...however, since the crystal doesn't BELONG to them and exist in harmony with the Force, the Sith must BREAK the crystal to their will and pour their fear, anger, rage and hatred INTO the latticework to MAKE it theirs. That's why a kyber that previously produced a green, blue or whatever color blade produces a blood-red blade under the Sith's machinations: in their unnatural reworking of the crystal's molecular structure, the crystal changes the blade's color. This is called making the crystal "bleed."

Yes, but that's the point of "bleeding" a kyber crystal. 😏 Frankly, I found this to be a bit too similar to the magic wands of the Harry Potter universe, where the "wand choses the wizard." They describe the kyber as "alive" like the wands and having a will of their own, thus a youngling must hear the "call" if the crystal when they try to find them on Illum. However, since the Sith aren't in harmony with the Force, they can't form a bond with their crystal naturally...thus, they must STEAL one from a Jedi. Once the deed is done, the Sith Lord forces his will upon the crystal and enslaves it to own twisted passions and desires by pouring their rage, anger, fear and hatred into it. This causes the kyber's very molecular structure to change...and the blade it produces for the Sith ALWAYS comes out red. Thus, the Jedi and Sith called this process "bleeding the kyber."

They do, when a force sensitive meditates on a crystal for a while, most likely after a gathering, the crystal will take on a color based on their position in the force. If the Force sensitive is a Consular, then Green, Sentinel, yellow, guardian, Blue and other colors in between for if that person in lingering in between two. Say you meditate on one in 2018 and it's green, if you get another in 2020 and you are a changed person then the new crystal will be a different color.

Good Looking Moustache I mean it makes sense that they can’t hide as Jedi. If they could then the Jedi Order could’ve been easily stopped from the inside multiple times. Especially when members converted such as Dooku. Also, it is as simple as Sith=Evil and Jedi=Good according to George Lucas. He was pretty straight forward with what he was doing and his symbolism. Hence why every movie and show portrays sith as evil Jedi as good. Sure it’s been expanded on and attempted to change to be more complex but it’s always been sith are evil at its base.

The crystal does not automatically change color in the new Canon. It takes a process, called bleeding, to change the color to red. Kyber crystals are colorless in their natural form, and take on a color when the Jedi bond with them in the force. This particular tidbit contradicts most of Legends, but predates the Disney takeover, coming from the Clone Wars tv show, which George Lucas was the executive producer of. The bleeding thing is the only new part. Previously red was just called synthetic kyber. Now there is no synthetic, the crystal has to be dominated by the dark side. It's unlikely that it has to be a Jedi's crystal, but that is what Palpatine required of him.

Well it’s been shown throughout the comics and even explained that lightsabers change colors not by the actions of their respective owners, but by what they do to the crystals. Ashoka turned a red crystal into a white crystal. Darth Vader had to turn the blue crystal into a red one forcefully. The thing with a lightsaber color is that it stays the way it is until someone forcefully changes the color.

Thank you, this Star Wars theory guy really doesn't know much about canon. Once the saber gets it's color through construction then it stays that color unless a darkside user takes it apart and corrupts it and constructs it again. The color is from construction, not mood rings. The color is random when they construct it.

Nope, it is colored based on the director's, and sometimes actor's, decision. First it was just red and blue. Then pink and blue (although I believe the pink was discoloration in the film). Then green and red. Then green, blue and red. Then red and 40+ blue and green and 1 purple. Then red,blue,purple,green and blue and blue. Afterwards, why care any longer seriously?

It was explained on the making of the prequels (Episodes I, II and III), red lightsabers were meant for the sith and blue and green lightsabers for the jedi, but, Samuel L Jackson wanted a purple lightsaber, so, it did depend on the director and the actor's decisions. Of course, they gave a propper explanation for the Star Wars Universe, but yeah the actual reason was that. Let's just keep it simple: Anakin's lightsaber didn't change color because it still had his blue crystal. However when he lost his lightsaber to Obi Wan when he was defeated on Mustafar, Palpatine gave him a new red crystal as a token of gratitude for joining the dark side. Darth Vader built his new lightsaber with it and that's why he has now a red lightsaber.

Lol we're allowed to have our own opinions, and they dont have to line up with what the new canon is. Not everybody is going to like everything, and thats completely fine. Sometimes you dont even need to have a counter-argument, for why you're not ok with something. This would be one of those things. But.. I do, and it boils down to the old canon's crystal lore was more practical and allowed more room for worldbuilding, while still keeping the mysticism of the force and crystal selection intact. That doesnt make the old canon better, nor does it make the new canon better... but its ok for people to have opinions on what they like and dont like. Wrong. If blades changed color willy nilly they would sort of be like the wands from Harry Potter. When Obi-Wan claimed the blade from the ground after defeating Anakin the blade would have changed back to blue which was Obi-Wan's color, anyways, since Obi-Wan was technically now the owner of it.

Then explain Exar Kun, Freedon Nadd and Ulic Qel Droma… all Sith… none of em used red. Also, this introduces an entirely different reason for why Windu’s lightsaber is purple. Well just a thought, but anakin’s Blue lightsaber was one common with the Jedi. If it had turned red, it would’ve sent a signal like “Hey he’s evil look at the lightsaber.” I think it would’ve sent signals to the Jedi in the Temple during the massacre and maybe more would’ve survived after that signal...
