@@daddyxa_That's the newest iteration! The reason it looks like that is because they wanted to retain as much of the original style as they could using newer technology. It still has that like soap opera era dramatics going on lol The art style is specifically why some people think it's a parody but it's just paying the proper respect to the source material. Manga has always been a like that and it's super cool to see the old school style still being used. The dramatic shots and high contrast lighting and HEAVILY muscle bound men were super common. You can see newer mangaka actually poking fun of the style with certain trope characters. But JoJo's tends to take their art seriously even if it is like...hella dramatic. Hence why it prevails despite how old it actually is.

i mean his format kinda demands it, theres a whole slew of issues with calling anime weird like pedopanicing the audience about lolishota which is fictional because they know its not kosher irl kinda like the wests faux incest fascination its just taboo kinks no body thinks its ok irl. you coulda also talk about the subtle racism of specializing this taboo work but remember they wouldnt make fictional taboo porn if they actually thought it was normal and ok to do irl. treat lolishota like CNC, its roleplay fantasy, not an endorsement. then theres the equating all anime as if its a genre and you have to watch alot of bloated animes but hes really exaggerating most shows dont get to be shounen jump mega successes like one peice or yugioh. hell most of yugiohs success is in the table top games places i personally played the tcg since it came out and still collect the cards now that i cant keep up with the meta of it all. his short brief overview just isnt the strongest way to frame an entire cartoon industry that makes different cultural norms cause its on the other side of the planet. anime fits into normal genre spheres- and its not like japan is above a biut of prudishnness its just not american christian prudishness- which is why alot of Porn both real and animated censor heavily. thats why theres eons more fan service cause unlike catholics thinking an ankle is too much to show beffore marriage theyre more literal with the nudity being censored but sensuality not givin half of the effort, they dont care that your horny. they just dont show ya the universally agreed sex parts so you can sell it at stores. these differences are in truth not to far off from western content.just sometime in the satanic panic we got really afraid of child predation- to a mythical degree and were still in that era for us. to this day youd think csa was on the level of bombing hiroshima when its just a mental disorder and the panic has done nothing to give us actual tools to stop or get treated. so people who have the disorder with low impulse control get in the news alot. actual csa rates dont seem to be too different. outside the difference in policing and laws, they still lock up pedos in japan.they just dont go utterly insane in the process.

Honestly, just stop listening to shonen fans. It is definitely difficult if you're a total outsider since most of anime fans are battle shonen fans, but leave that niche and suddenly your options are waaay better. If all you want is to avoid horny shots of underage characters there are thousands of anime for you that you might hear about from shoujo or josei fans. Personally I just look for lesbian text/subtext and my options are while limited still quite good. Like It's MyGO is a 10/10 character drama with 0 horny about girls in a band who are mentally ill, and in january it gets a sequel (Ave Mujica) about girls in a related band who are even more mentally ill doing psychological horror shit to each other. And beyond just that one being my most excited pick there's still plenty out there, like haibane renmei, girls last tour, madoka magica, etc etc Not intended as pressure tho lol, just some perspective that the reason anime looks like that from the outside is entirely because of the mainstream fans.

In the west that stuff is not as tolerated anymore. Not saying western shit doesn't have fanservice, it most definitely does. But anime fanserice is on a whole different level. I love one piece, but the fan service can be an annoying aspect of it. Edit: I do think it's probably because I enjoy shonen the most that I encounter so many. Romantic sfw animes directed at women for example, don't have that amount of fanservice if any at all many times. It is still a problem though, as shonen animes are some of the most popular.

So, a few things to clarify: Isekai doesn't necessarily have to be a person dying and reincarnating; all it really has to be is that it should be the protagonist(s) going to another world. For example: Re zero, where the protagonist didn't die to travel between worlds. It doesn't need to be even a medieval Europe-based location; anything is fine so long as it's another world(Tanya the evil saga. It's still Europe-based, just not medieval). Animes running for a long time is not exactly correct(at least for nowadays, especially if the source material isn't long by itself). See, animes back in the days used to have a lot of fillers, which is to make sure that the source material has gone further enough that they can continue producing the anime, without needing to abruptly stop. Apparently, it might have been due to making sure that these animes don't die out. Nowadays, there is less The "anime" sounds is just a case of language difference and to showcase emotions. I've seen clips of Japanese people talk like that to a certain extent. It may or may not be a little exaggerated, probably due to wanting make it more easier showcase emotions. Other languages also do have these kind of sounds either, like a certain group of people in Northern Tanzania who make clicking sound as a part of their vocabulary. It's probably like "Ah!" or "Oh" in English. When it comes to the fan service(the sexual kind, when it comes to the female characters): A lot of the anime that has them are Shonen anime, which as you pointed out is for young/teenage boys. This is basically why these anime have more sexualized female characters. Seinen also has it too, but it is presumably more common in Shonen. These anime also are part of the ecchi genre(which is borderline hentai) Not every anime watcher is into the really weird crap. A lot of us don't like the one with the dog. Anime being addictive part depends. I mean, it seems more so to be a minority to me. There are people like me who have watched anime since childhood, so for us it is going to be more appealing. There are people who just prefer anime over other cartoons and animations. Assuming you didn't just make up that whole story about that athlete guy becoming an anime-addicted weeb, are you really sure that it was anime caused it specifically? Are you sure it wasn't because of some family issue or bullying or stress or some other reason? There is nothing wrong with cosplays. People do that even with non-anime franchises too.
@Madness-x6k3 ай бұрын
Couldn't edit for some reason, so here is the rest... Anime addiction like other addictions(game, alcohol, etc.) may be caused by things other than just for a love for that medium(the reasons previously mentioned). The reason for reading the Manga or light novel isn't just because of not being able to wait for the next season, but also because animes may have bad animation, bad art style, bad voice acting, bad sound design, bad music, unnecessary cuts and changes from the source material(like more sexualization, taking out or changing good scenes for shortening, or other more stupid reasons), and there could be manga that haven't been or potentially wouldn't ever be animated.

@@Madness-x6kI'll also state an obvious fact all anime watchers know: anime barely makes money unless it's an evergreen franchise. So 90% of anime are ads to manga/LNs with much bigger profit margins. You go to read the manga because you literally don't have more anime. Even popular stuff like Bleach has this happen. You want to see the last Arc of the manga back in 2012? Gotta read it, the manga ended in like 2017, and it took till 2022 to start animating the last arc. And that's an exception that basically never ever happens. When you follow the money, you start to see exactly why anime does so much of what it does. Down to chasing trends and burning it to the ground and the (comparatively) frequent fanservice compared to western animation.

It's one of the arguably unfortunate things carried over from manga because a lot of the stuff was manga first and then became anime later. Pacing still exists in comics, graphic novels, manga, etc, but stuff like this works way better on paper because you can read it at your own pace so it's not distracting and interrupting when somebody has a speech bubble showing their thoughts. In the movie or show though, you have characters sitting around for uncomfortable amounts of time just sitting there and doing nothing and thinking with the world pausing around them to let them do it. A lot of these stories would be impossible to adapt without including it though, like death Note that was already mentioned.
@musicfreak15113 ай бұрын
from my limited understanding, the grunts and exaggerated sounds in anime and japanese stage performances come from Kabuki plays, when actors would need to over-pronounce or emphasize lines and expressions to be able to project to big crowds without sound equipment, and it just carried over through other media overtime.

It's also a general Japanese society thing. It's rude to just sit there silently when someone is talking. There's a word dedicated to describing how you use "grunts" and other airy words to show you're engaged. It can be localized, but it requires editing footage, and we're way past that 4-kids age. So they just make the English dubs match the Japanese mouth flaps.

I personally think the hardest thing for me, as someone who does watch anime, is the odd random sexualization in animes that definitely don't need it. A lot of them are also just weirdly open to nudity with minors, like Evangelion is super good but we didn't need to see any of the characters naked as much as they are, especially considering the 3 main characters are 14 edit: not all animes are like this, I recently watched jjk which doesn't seem to have much sexualization at all, and of course children's anime like dbz and Pokemon (usually) don't have this issue
@MattFinnerty-r5g3 ай бұрын
I wouldn't count DBZ as a childrens anime lol
@DTFauxClassic3 ай бұрын
@@MattFinnerty-r5g Incidentally, shounen manga and anime's key demographic is middle and high school boys. It's just that Western (more so US) media standards regarding sex and violence forces shounen series to be censored for viewers of similar ages, or uncensored versions to be marketed towards a PG-13/TV-14/TV-MA audience. And there's definitely a conversation to be had about commercial media censorship, but arguably, the Dragon Ball series probably wouldn't be what it is today [in North America] if not for the censored version showing up for a lot of kids after school or on Saturday mornings during the 90s/early 00s.

DB had goku naked most of the time lmao
@chickenanon3 ай бұрын
@orbboom6119 ah perfect okay this is exactly what i was coming to talk about. So interestingly enough, the casually naked children thing is actually not related to the fanservice stuff at all. It's actually very refreshing for the fact that it is in fact about the fact that they're children, and frankly? Little kids don't like clothes lmao. Goku didn't wear clothes because why would he? Goku is based on the monkey king, he's just a lil monkey guy, why would he wear pants? Him being naked is meant to be funny for children and adults alike. For kids because heehee naked and for the adults because those adults are probably familiar with kids running around naked. This used to be a lot more common in America too! America is very prudish though. Further, as you might know, Japan has a long history of very big bath culture. Public bathing specifically, but even with modern private baths it's very common for parents and kids to share a bath and wash up together. So there's a lot of weird bathing scenes that may or may not have fanservice, but it's yknow. Bath culture. Not that Japan doesn't very much have problems with s-xualization of girls and stuff like, they have train cars just for women lmao like yeah they have problems and obviously anime reflects them but not all of the nudity is actually problematic. It might be offensive to American sensibilities, but that doesn't actually make it morally objectionable. Even most Europeans actually consider Americans massive prudes lmao at least when it comes to just like. Non s-xual nudity. You gotta remember...bodies are just bodies. It's frowned on to show them too much in some religions, but....they're just bodies.

Anime got me by the scruff and took all my time in middle school and is clearly still a big factor in my life as you see from the little photo. Here are some recommendations I’d give if you’re ever interested: 1. The 12 Kingdoms- high fantasy and shorter 2. Full metal Alchemist Brotherhood. If you liked AOT I think you’d like this is longer thought 3. Land of the Lustros a genuinely gorgeous series. 4.Your lie in April- slice of life-bring the tissues 3. Thars probably part of the problem (shirt aside lol). Western media spent 50+ years convincing people that cartoons are for kids. Even the popular "adult animation" is more like PG/TV-14 at best. And with less explicit nudity than love action stuff. So they see cleavage in anime and are flabbergasted because society already told them what to expect out of animation. Family friendly moving pictures. That's probably cause for all this push back by western viewers while they go back to watching Game of Thrones (which shows more than any damn anime out there).

What makes anime so weird in US TV space is just that. Anime in US TV space takes on the form of a TV show. Which yeah, that’s what it was, but it’s not how it’s worked in Japan. Anime (before like netflix collabs and stuff like that) was a mix of adaptations of largely recognized manga comics (like attack on titan you mentioned), kids programs (pokemon coming out of the manga and card game originally), and small (ghibli ain’t small but yk) studio directed art films (Angel’s Egg, etc) But the manga angle is the most important piece of the puzzle the US has no stake in culturally. Of course the US -has- manga to be read, It’s just got a different social function. People still go to 711 in Japan and pick up the shonen jump booklet with like a couple of different manga’s newest chapters. So many people on the train to work pull up their favorite digital manga app and read a couple chapters on their way to work. You really get a feel of like someone just tryingg to make something cause they wanna make it and have a weird idea or a funny idea, and people vibe with it even if the art is scratchy or not perfectly polished (unlike how a studio made anime looks) Also, infinitely faster to get through the story since you read at your own pace vs an animation’s runtime lol (I work for a manga publisher in Osaka Japan doing comic lettering and design)

Such as the overt-sexualization of female characters, tropy love triangles that add nothing to the story and only exist to add more drama to the plot (unless it’s the main focus of the anime). So I definitely understand where you are coming from here.

I feel bad for a lot of people when their friends try to turn them on to anime because it does have this obsessive stigma around it. I am someone who does watch anime but it's a small portion of my overall watching experience. I think of anime not as an obsession but as a different artistic form of the stuff I already watch. There are absolutely the same kind of people who make the shows you like that make similar shows just in the form of anime. I obviously don't know you so I wouldn't be able to suggest a good place to start. I'm sure you've been suggested thousands of anime in the comments, but I would suggest instead of a particular show, look for the genres you already enjoy but in anime form. Though sometimes hard to find, there are good stories out there that just so happen to be anime. (I initially started this comment as algorithm boosting but it turned into more. Sorry for being so long winded. If you need a suggestion from me, I'd say "Your Name". That's a show that I think about and how it made me feel to this day; 7 years later. If not that; Studio Ghibli's never let me down.) Keep up the good work, Tug.

9:06 I’m also an anime hater who’s only seen attack on titan and one piece. It starts good, there are a few seasons that are better as background noise. But overall it’s just a very whimsical story of a boy who dreams of becoming the pirate king and overthrows tyrannical dictatorships along the way. Culminating in fighting against the world ruling shadow government. Highly recommend

My first recommendation for people who aren't into anime is Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and watch the DUB. The dub cast of voice actors are INCREDIBLY good, arguably the best dub of all time. My choice of sub vs dub depends on the subject matter and setting. Fullmetal Alchemist is dealing with almost ENTIRELY Western characters, so the English voiceover actually sounds more natural and fluid than the Japanese version IMO.

I have watched and read all of one piece big tugg and I’ll say this. One piece always is good it doesn’t get good at epsoide 30 but rather in that arc it shows the emotional levels and depth of one piece. So the 30 episode mark is where most people decide to keep watching or not because it shows what one piece is all about

I will say tho, in defense of the “weird noises”, while they might be exaggerated in anime it happens because in Japan a lot of “these weird noises” are genuine ways of communicating. Instead of asking “what?” Sometimes you’d say “ah?”, right? So in the same sense, sometimes when they agree with something they don’t out right say “yes” but “un” which is basically just… “aha” or whatever English equivalent could be, I’m bad at writing down onomatopoeias. Everything in the video is understandable, even though I can say comedy is also extremely different and therefore culturally doesn’t translate as well- but the “weird noises” genuinely is something that’s just because of the way Japanese people communicate, not just random grunts. It’s okay if you don’t like anime or if you do but I believe that’s something that needed context and clarification since it’s the only part of the video that’s a bit off. Anyway good day.

But i can't feel comfortable watching that. Despite knowing the story and world building is peak. Same reason i can't get into fairytail. I largely don't have a problem with this video. My real issue is at the end when you start describing anime and manga as an addiction. Let me preface with anything can be an addiction or, in other words, you can become addicted to pretty much anything. This is not something inherent to animanga but can show up in games and Western media. What he is initially describing is the process of integrating yourself into the culture that is animanga. Then you suddenly jump to an extreme case of someone locking themselves away from the outside world. Which usually isn't caused by animanga, but other external factors in their life and is a horrible stereotype.

@@constantine9606 I guess. Well to be more specific then, when it comes to people who enjoy animated storytelling, there is an anime for EVERYONE in that specific category. If someone is capable of enjoying animated storytelling from America or the UK, there is no reason other than wilful ignorance that they couldn’t also enjoy certain stories animated by the Japanese. that bit you did at 14:15 fucking killed me🤣🤣🤣 It's so true, I also find those noises irritating despite the fact that I've been watching anime for over 17 years. But this is somewhat related with the way Japanese speak. Let's say you start speaking to someone in Japanese, it's so common for them to go something like "ah, excuse me, bla bla bla". As if they got a jump scare when you talk to them and they get surprised every time someone opens a conversation. (This is just my impression, I've never been to Japan). But yeah that part of being very expressive with "eh, uh, oh" is really an offshoot of the way Japanese interact with each other.
