It was time for an upgrade for me and although my hesitation I bought the iPhone 11. When it was delivered, I immediately set it up. The gesture based control felt so naturally and I was used to it within a couple of minutes! I never want to go back to a home button. Gesture based control is awesome and Face ID is simply lovely. 6:10 I kind of disagree with this part. Developers still have to support Touch ID and Face ID now even more because phones either have one or the other. I think that it would be easier for developers if the iPhone had both, because then they could pick which they want to support, given that Apple doesn’t make a stupid rule requiring both. Most apps don’t require Face ID or Touch ID, supporting it as an optional feature instead, and if they do require it, the same thing would happen that happens now, you just can’t use that app.

As someone who has recently switched to a phone that doesn't have a physical home button (iOS to OnePlus), I can tell you that not using the home button is simply worse. From my experience the one thing that’s a pain with Apple gesture controls is how needlessly tedious it is to get to multitasking. Having to hold and wait feels very unnatural and clunky. It’s why I still use the Home Button on my iPad despite it also allowing for touch controls. To combat that, I propose that you tap the bar to home, and swipe to get to multitasking. Alternately, the could have you use Haptic Touch to get to multitasking and a regular swipe to go home, though that would not be as convenient.
@davidlockhart6634 жыл бұрын
One other way to get to multitasking is swiping up and to the right I always did that instead of swipe and hold

3:02 as an android user with both gesture navigation and 3 button navigation i completely disagree, theyre about equal for going to homescreen, recent apps are a bit faster with buttons, switching to last app is about the same on both, going back is faster with buttons if you have to quickly go back several pages, swiping is just too slow compared to tapping in same place few times; so in my opinion gestures are slower On ios i can see why gestures would be a bit faster than a button but i just wanted to give my 2 cents on that 6:24 "use faceid or touchid to do this thing" problem solved 6:33 they already do because apple still supports phones with touch id and given they released SE last year i doubt devs will have to stop doing that any time soon

Like when getting an email or text message, I didn’t even have to look at the phone; just physically feel the home button to open it… 2: The swiping requires more dexterity. When I’m cooking in the kitchen, for example, I like the clunkiness of the home button to look at a recipe, versus having to swipe. Or when I’m running around at work, and I get a text or email… 3: Without the physicality of the home button, I often pick up my phone upside down off my bed and dresser, or out of my pocket!!

I'll never forget buying an iPhone X and feeling like it was so simple to use compared with an older iPhone. I don't miss the home button and of course prefer the gestures and swipes of a modern iPhone over the older button use for navigating the device. (: Great episode Greg and excited for your next episode.

I used to like Face ID better than Touch ID but know I’ve found out that Face ID isn’t as secure as Touch ID because I know people that can open each other’s phone because they look alike but with Touch ID no one has the same fingerprints so only one person can open open a phone with touch id

I had an Android phone when they introduced swipe gestures, so, when I switched back to an iPhone 11 there was hardly a learning curve. One thing that I have appreciated is that swiping up quickly from the bottom brings back to the home screen like the home button used. That's something I had to use a 3rd party launcher when I was on the Android. I can say from having used both platforms that iOS is a little bit more intuitive.

Bro, you know you could just go in the settings app and like, turn on swipe gestures? It's on android and I'm using it on my S10+

We really love home button. It has no problem with the screen space

5:14 i can get into my brother iphone because i look like him therefore fingerprint is better and no one is going to copy your finger with glue

Yeah, and also I think the glue fingerprints don’t work I tried it on my iPad, and it didn’t work

I do wish that they would release a version of flagships that have the home button every year. That way you could have the most recent phone, but also have the home button if you prefer. I have refrained from upgrading my phone because I like the home button and don’t want to switch to using swiping actions instead of just a number of presses of the home button.

iPhone SE
@falcondragonslayer2 жыл бұрын
@@FasterBueno Yes but the SE has a really old design and trash battery. What I meant is a flagship-sized phone with all the benefits of the flagship but with a home button at the bottom. Even if it was just part of the screen and pressure-activated like with 3D Touch that would be better than the outdated iPhone 8 design of the SE It doesn’t matter though cause I decided to get a new phone anyway and actually found I like the gestures much more than a home button

5:00 As my own experience, when my iPhone is laying on the desk, the face id doesn't work, I have to pick it up first, while I just need to put my finger on home button for touch id, and unlock with a musk does not support for that bellow 12 (I'm using 11 now), and it also doesn't work when I am laying on my bed, when i put my face really close to iPhone

I hate the design of the iPhone X. Put the home button back.

One of the reasons I stay on iPhone... though one of the funniest comments was “the notch looks so ugly” yet most of the people saying that are not only ok, but don’t use gestures (when available) and use the task bar. Taking up a chunk of the screen at the bottom.

Ive always said that if Apple were to bring back a finger print scanner, why not put it inside the apple logo on the back of the phone? It would make the cases have to show off the apple logo for brand recognition (Which Apple loves) as well as bring back a feature alot of people still love

Still have an 8. My girlfriend have the 11. Still prefer Touch ID. Might be biased but Face ID is still so slow for me.

I’ve had my iPhone 7+ ever since I was in 3rd/4th grade and I’m currently in 8th grade… still surprised my phone still going strong. I know it’s outdated and honestly I’m really not looking forward to the day my phone will stop working cuz I really prefer the iphones with home buttons and I will never be ready to give up this phone I love it so much, It’s just sad apple probably won’t support old models anymore considering there are more models to come 😢

Knowing this, now I rely on the Apple assistive touch settings even now, as I’m physically unable to fully close down the apps without it now the home button has gone.
