I don’t see a huge market for people who don’t want a smart watch that would want a smart ring. If you don’t want a smart watch you don’t want the charging and design they have. So why would you want the charging and design of a smart ring? You want an oversized ring bland designed ring you have to charge? The market for the ring, IMO, are techies who just want all the new devices with money to burn. Because if you cared about health tracking, you’d have a smart watch already.

@@LarryJ602 I would love it, the only reason, I keep my Apple watch is for health tracking, I can charge it everyday, It's not a big deal, I put it on charge, when I go to take bath, or Toilet and that's all the charge, it usually needs. It doesn't look very good compared to a traditional watch, and I don't use 1 of the 999 apps it has. If I can get a smart ring, I would love to get it and ditch my Apple watch for a traditional time piece. I have an Apple Watch, but I don't love it. but its useful for health tracking and motivation. something that can also be done by a smart ring, But I am not going towards the Samsung Ring.

@@LarryJ602 I have an Oura ring on the same arm that I wear an Omega Speedmaster. I want to track activity and sleep track and have no interest in wearing a smartwatch. Charging a ring once a week is no big deal. I might not represent a lot of people, but there are a lot of people who refuse to wear a watch because they want to track their health. My Oura ring is no larger than a normal wedding band and does not look out of place.

The thing about rings that I find appealing is that I have never been particularly comfortable wearing a watch to sleep, and so I always end up removing my watch when I go to bed, something I feel I have to do anyway to charge it so I can use it the next day. The appeal of a smart ring to me is that it should be easier to be comfortable in more situations like in bed or while swimming. That said, I agree with you that Apple doesn't really need to release a ring or if they do, it will be as an accessory to the Apple Vision Pro, not as a health device.

Marketing a smart ring definitely wouldn't be the problem and I don't see it competing with the Apple Watch. A ring targets a different audience, those that don't want a smart watch or those that prefer to wear a mechanical watch. A ring would be a perfect addition and I would instantly buy one.

I have the Apple Watch Ultra and though I like its functionality, it is hard to wear while sleeping, and I dislike having to charge it rough every day to day and a half, depending on what’s going on. Often it needs to be charged before I sleep, or before I work out, then I fall asleep or work out while it charges, so miss wearing it for sleep our workout data, or I forget it’s on the charger for hours, or simply need a break from wearing it. I have an Oura ring and this solves most of the problems that I mentioned, so is helpful in that way. Also, the Apple watch is more accurate and collects more data, but it does really present/package the data into useful actionable summaries in companies to Oura, unless you acquire a third party app which usually each app only does it for one purpose. They apparently know this so are finally coming out with Vitals.

The way i see it a ring is supposed to be a better alternative for those who don't want the bombardment of features on something which can atp compete as a mini phone. Its simpler and good for basic fitness. So yes apple could have maybe made something as simple as a ring or wrist band for people who don't want something too major for basic fitness. Shoud've been cost affective too i might add.

For many of us wearing a smart watch 24/7 is not comfortable. A ring would be the most comfortable wearable for 24/7 usage especially during sleep. Third part are better but flawed because of gapping data points. I wear a ring now for address those issues. Still where the watch for all the connected actives. I'm in the Samsung ecosystem for most of my tech. The only real exception is for tablets as I feel iPads are much better than Android tablets. I have a Galaxy Watch, but I don't use it for health tracking. In fact, I find it annoying that I can't seem to turn off all the health app notifications that the watch wants to send me. The reason I wear a smartwatch is so I can be sure to notice phone notifications when my phone is in my pocket. I used to miss notifications, even my phone ringing if I was in a relatively loud environment. I am much more likely to notice when my watch vibrates. Even if I used my watch for it's health monitoring, I wouldn't want to wear my watch to bed. In fact, I usually take my watch off when I get home. I charge my watch overnight. I could see wearing a ring to bed, though. Maybe. I don't wear any rings now and smart rings appear to be fairly thick which might make them uncomfortable. But if I someday need something to track my sleep, I think I'd prefer a ring to wearing a watch to bed.

Love how the discourse is around rings & battery life. Let’s see if Apple instead offers the ability to change the [blue] stand ring to an exercise snack ring. SERIOUSLY, read up on exercise snacks, it is a novel application of the ability of your 🍏⌚️to detect different exercise algorithms.

Similar reasons as to why Garmin won’t do it. Why would anyone want the less functionality of a ring?
@nari5161

I would, a lot of commenters would. Not for Samsung's price but the apple watch needs to be charged waay too often for a fitness tracker and is too obtrusive, and imo doesn't look very good in all scenarios unlike a ring

Why? Maybe because they can't even make a watch that isn't sued off the shelves?

I hope that apple does. The apple watch doesn't work as well on my tattooed skin. Maybe a ring would be the solution for me?

Imagine having an iPhone, Apple Watch and then a Ring? No thanks! Too many accessories and most of them do what the other already does, right?

LOL "latest" Apple watch. That's cute. Maybe the reason it's so affordable is because it's like 3 generations old but is the most recent that isn't being sued for using stolen technology.

Reason is because it would slightly unrecognizable as it's a small a product and difficult to show off hence people won't buy it.

The best feature of a smart ring: when you lift your hand to your face, the alarm goes off. Keeping your hands out of your orifices will most definitely reduce your use of sick days. Amazing how many people are oblivious to their eye rubbing and nose rubbing.

Remember Samsung is a manufacturing company while Apple is more like a retailer who has their own private label. Galaxy Ring is very important product for Samsung due to its manufacturing challenge to put essential components of Smart Watch into 1 inch diameter, few mm thickness product. On the other hand, Apple always looking which product provided them with the largest margin. Once found, they will ask any factory who able to produce that product at their production cost target.

Lightweight for Apple. Samsung making fold phones with a big crease in it, while Apple making computers for your face! Big difference!… Apple knows “they not like us!” 😅

Guarantee you will lose the ring in no time. Even tho the ring battery will last for a week, but I think you are gonna have to keep the charging case on you. Just like your AirPods, you would want a place to put it in when you are taking it on and off.

You don't wear a ring until it's dead. You usually just put it on the charger when you shower or wake up and get ready. It doesn't need to be fully charged all the time. It just has to be kept charged.

Most people don't wear watches 24 hours a day. My ring is charged when I shower, so it charges for about 15 minutes a day. That's more than enough to keep it charged.
