Great video! A few comments: 1) I do wish that, had the Archie sonic series continued, Amy gives up on sonic. This is taking cue from the British sonic comics where the team felt that amy more or less had a schoolgirl/pop singer fangirl crush on sonic. She grew up in that story. I see the archie Amy doing the same. She will be remembered as among the greatest heroes of her time, and more importantly, Amy can find her own true love (who is closer to her age both physically and mentally). 2) I like how you point out how amy encourages knuckles, dosn't doubt his goal in life. Rouge, the character who has a....complicated relationship with knuckles, DOES. Its not Rouge was intentionally downplaying Knuckles's commitment, I think she was genuinely, in her own way, worried about his task that makes him isolated, but the way she voiced it does not endear her to Knuckles. Whether or not they will end up as romantic dates, its moments like that that make me think "Perhaps they wouldn't or cant be romantic partners because they have too many differences." Thoughts? 3)Will you cover Sally Acorn? and if so, would you analysis the intended romance between her and Nicole, and how that differs from her and sonic?

Amy Rose from Fleetway's Sonic The Comic used a crossbow because her hammer hadn't been invented. She was second in command of the Freedom Fighters. I am glad to see that Archie Amy went through character development too.

What I really love about Archie Amy is that while she clearly loves Sonic, she still has a pretty good relationship with Sally, and there really hasn't been any animosity between the 2. It's super ironic since both characters' fans have the biggest beef in the entire Sonic community.

I love that Flynn and company were able to elevate Amy to a main character without a massive retcon, and without trying to shpe-horn her into a role she doesn't really fit. I know it's been said before, but in Forces and the first couple IDW arcs, it feels like she's filling in for Sally, which does her a real disservice. Speaking of, I'm glad they never took the obvious route and made her and Sally rivals a la Betty and Veronica (ironic, being made by Archie), or that raising up one meant having to tear down the other- we get enough of that in the comments. Instead, Amy just gets to be a fun, cute, uplifting hero without any of the baggage that most of the other characters had.

The first couple IDW arcs? The whole IDW comics Amy has been filling in like Sally. Even after the part of Amy giving the leadership direction to Jewel, she still has those leadership traits and that generic personality of being the "girl" of the team. These characteristics fit Sally perfectly, but they look horrible on Amy, especially since SEGA forbade Amy from falling in love with Sonic again. And don't tell me "but Amy is still in love with Sonic in the comics", of course she is, but now she doesn't run after Sonic or perform any comedy act when she's near him as she normally does, at no point in the games show us a moment where Amy stopped doing that, without mentioning that said characteristic made her character unique. It's as if you said that removing Rouge's obsession with jewels or removing the Chaotix's obsession with money out of nowhere is "character development" when it isn't, you're just removing the characteristic that made your characters charmy and on top of that, you don't show any explanation of how they changed their personality, as if it was a sassy retcon. Don't come at me with that "character development" in the games, she never had it, they always showed her as a character obsessed with Sonic. "What about Forces?" Bro literally all the characters had a personality outside of character, just look at Tails and Sonic in that game "Heroes showed that Amy is a great leader" If we follow that logic, then Sonic also has the ability to be a leader of an entire resistance, just like Rouge and Vector. Exactly, it doesn't make sense, Amy was only the ringleader of her group of friends who were a six year old rabbit and Big being Big, are you really going to tell me that's why she has the ability to be the leader of an entire restoration just like that? Not to mention that SEGA completely abandoned team Rose and everyone considers that Heroes had one of the worst Amy...

She didn’t get that hammer until several years after she debuted and was introduced as Sonic’s official girlfriend. Fighters was the very first time Amy had a hammer and she doesn’t use it anymore than anyone else does. Then it would later transfer to future versions of her character. In CD Amy was canonized and was based on her original Manga self, but without dating Sonic. She was just a damsel in distress and later, she spent the rest of the Classic era, maturing and growing out of her Fangirl crush. Then in the Adventure series, She has her first arc where she grows independent from Sonic. She used to be a little Shy about her crush, she dreamed about being with him but not saying anything out loud. By Adventure 2, she became more open her crush but only references it when Sonic wanted to know about her encounter with Shadow. However years later starting from Sonic X and Heroes, She became more crazy about her crush due to sexism and Sega listening to the fandom. But She only used her hammer a couple times, most of which he did something to make her angry. Thanks to society slowly becoming less sexist, she hadn’t done it all in the 2010s and in the Boom series and Lost World. she is treated more seriously. Even during Sonic X, there was an implied get together, with them even playing a love song. As for telling people off, I was referring to her calling Wave out in IDW and Her behavior in the Boom series and Prime.

She's not the daughter of the king, married to a prince, or the ruler of a subject state. That said, she's definitely hedgehog nobility and is technically a higher social class than Sonic is.

Something I loved about the Archie comics is that each of the characters felt important. A lot of these great stories came out when the side characters were shoved into games with little reasoning, or if there WAS reason, they'd be reduced to base character traits and little else (poor poor Knuckles). But in the comics they grew into different people alongside Sonic and contributed significantly to the war effort. It felt like things didn't always just have to come down to Sonic and maybe one other important character of the arc. And even then, outside of direct confrontations with Eggman, Sonic wasn't as much of the "trump card" as you'd think he would be. He'd be the one to finish things usually, but not the one putting in the most effort all the time.

I used to hate Amy Rose when her one trait was "love obsessed stalker". Now she's one of my favourite girl characters of all! Defending Sonic and Sally's date went a long way to winning me over. Ive always had a soft spot for people who just want their loved one to be happy, whatever form it takes. I love how she's girly but so battle-ready (like you said "ready to murder" 😂). She's a leader AND the heart, and it's amazing how well rounded she is as a character now. Her expressions on the page are so fun, you can tell the artists enjoy drawing her. Plus she fights with a giant hammer and that's just cool.

I will say even though the soft reboot abruptly ended her character progression, like ALL the other plotlines and story arcs, I’m really glad you pointed out how even post Super Genesis Wave she retained much of why her Archie counterpart was special especially compared to the others. Sonic and Sally for instance lost much of their nuance but Amy felt like she made a natural transition into things. I like the soft reboot era but man… so much of what they were building up to completely lost 😭😢

To me, Archie Amy and IDW Amy are very similar. If anything, it feels like IDW Amy is just like how it was with the Archie reboot...as in mostly the same. Maybe she takes things a bit more seriously and her love for Sonic takes a bit more of a backseat most of the time but from what I've seen, she's amazing and adorable in both contexts. I personally think IDW did a lot of characters some good while adding a few great newcomers in Tangle and Whisper (who should totally get together) but Amy never needed any fixing. She's great just the way she is in Archie and IDW.

As someone who grew up with Sonic in the 2000s, Amy was always a character I was okay with a best and hated at worst. I never found her “chasing Sonic everywhere” gag and “hit him with hammer” slapstick to be funny or endearing. So I was pleasantly surprised when I started reading Archie, and found Amy to be not only tolerable, but straight up fun and cute! 9:15 This one moment was the one where I went from liking Archie Amy to loving her. I could never imagine Game!Amy (At the time) or Sonic X!Amy acting the same way in that situation, and I gained a lot of respect for her. 10:10 I kinda didn’t fully realize the fact that she was still doing her thing even in the back. Thanks for pointing it out! What a trooper! 11:38 Thank you for highlighting this specific scene! It’s gone down as one of my favorite scenes in the book, and maybe even the Sonic franchise. Seeing Tails and Amy, the goofy kids, step up, metaphorical slap him in the face and inspire Sonic to get back up the same way he has inspired them all these years and strengthening their relationship was so touching to me. I think I just like her in this book because the comedy and rage involving her isn’t annoying. She isn’t chasing Sonic 24-7 begging him to marry her, and she isn’t attacking him or getting really mad at anyone for thinking that they won’t end up together. Her rage is saved for her enemies, and that makes her a mighty force to be wary of. And if she DOES get mad at her friends, it’s for a good reason. Overall, Archie Amy is great in both continuities, and she’s my favorite version of the character. Thank you so much for making all these Archie Sonic videos! It’s nice to hear someone seriously talk about it without resorting to low-hanging fruit or Penders every 20 seconds or power-scaling videos by people who probably never read the book and only read wiki articles.

I don't know if I would believe Sonic's own words in this moment. The way I understand this moment is more like Sonic's trying to hide that he was going to give up by playing it off like he was just faking it. Especially with how he's locked the door and depressed in his own room, it makes the possibility of giving up closer than Sonic himself admits.

I'm 80% sure Flynn said it on Bumblekast that Sonic wasn't going give up. Sonic never gives up that's his thing. Besides Sonic wouldn't lie to his closest friends just for ego sake. Last prove is that he wouldn't come up with 2 teams on the spot, he was already figuring plan out. Flynn wanted inspirational moment for Tails & Amy, but he didn't want Sonic to give up (possible wasn't allowed to). Hence this fake-out moment.

On her relationship with Sonic. Karl Bollers did actually want to have Sonic and Amy be a couple. Just a little trivia note. I think with Amy, in relation to the reboot, the phrase "the more things change, the more they stay the same" applies.

in the context of the archie comics, I'm pretty glad that this didn't happen. If she can be just as fun and not wanting to be the main focus of sonic's life as she was in the comics, but without the weird implication of her mental age and such, I think it could be potentially a fun dynamic.

I hear His relationship with many of his friends, including Tails was terrible when he became an adult, partly because he hated the responsibilities that came with marrying Sally. Speaking of which, Sonic and Sally don’t fit each other at all. They contradict each other. Sonic just wants to run and be free, he doesn’t belong as a member of the monarchy. Narratively speaking, Sally would have made more sense as Knuckles’s partner since He actually fits Sally’s goals and occupation. He speaks like a kidnapper when talking to Tails’s parents and He was quite jerkish in general. If you want a characteristic humanized version of Sonic, watch Prime, The Paramount movies, read IDW or maybe the boom series.

Ik you’ve been doing Archie sonic a lot, but it’d be cool seeing a series about the 2D boost sonic games similar to the ones you did on the 3D ones. Rush, rush adventure, colors ds and generations 3ds all deserve more love imo. Love the vids lately tho!

I'm glad most of the people like Ian Flynn was able to continue working with the IDW comic but still it is kind of sad that after the home metal plague arc I haven't seen the comic reach as high of a peak as of recently though that's also because I don't personally read every issue that comes out and have it shown to me with like one or two KZbinrs like this. Still wish we could have seen the finale of the Archie comics and those sadly it's mainly due to a lawsuit that came out of ridiculous circumstances, I hope one day it can be truly finished or at the very least have the story concepts revealed and explain how it all ends but at the same time I would like to hold hope for the day to actually happen and see the comics be completed after running for so long

I like how Archie's Amy of the later volumes basically kept existing on IDW. They're very similarly written. She doesn't have the same baggage in IDW, of course, but the spirit remains.
