I had this conversation with my wife when we started dating. I’m a dreamer and I have big aspirations and it’s important to my mental health. She values a man that goes and gets it and leads. We had this conversation and she was on board. It’s been stressful but God has provided amazingly and we are 2 years into marriage and it’s the backbone of my life (other than Jesus) because we are on the same page.

That is one powerful image you gave me. It seems to me you're "walking with God", which for me means that you are living in accordance on how God wants a man to live. I also have big ambitions, and want to build a successful career, and want to marry later in life. Would you mind giving me any tips ? I'm 26, I just graduated from a physics major and I'm looking to find a job right now and do a masters degree in a year from now. I have a girlfriend but, I wanted to ask how you knew you found the right partner ? Perhaps, should I be focusing more on my career and mind the girlfriend/partner stuff later ? Or on what should I be focusing on right now ? Thank you in advance.

Great advice. I sat down with my husband we had 2 kids at the time. I told him I wanted to write novels. I loved writing and it came easy to me. I figured it was doeable because I could do this at home while taking care of our kids. His response, he laughed at me. I remember how hurt I was because I fully supported his dream of owning his own mechanic shop. Which I supported financially and emotionally. Needless to say years down the road we got divorced. For many other reasons too. But I remember I was really mad at myself for not doing it anyway. I haven't done it yet but I put myself through school working a full-time job and taking care of my kids and became a licensed massage therapist. I felt accomplished. Now the kids are grown and I have the urge to write again. This time it will happen. ✌

Marlena D good for you... My wife has done the same thing in supporting my business which is finally doing well after 6 years. I’ll make sure down the road when she needs the same thing... I’ll give it back. It’s only the right thing to do. Even though we both enjoy the fruits of the company I started, it would have never happened without her emotional and financial support.

I couldn't agree more, Pat. I've been married for 26 years, and the challenges we've overcome in that time are a testament to proper communication. My kids have asked me several times how to make a marriage work, and my answer is always the same: Pursue your own goals with determination, dedication, and single-minded focus. After some time, you will look around and see that there are a small number of people running in the same direction. These people are your tribe...they will become your friends, challengers, and perhaps one of them will become your life partner.

boomerhgt most people have aspirations for some people it’s something as small as owning a restaurant as a small business or finishing their preferred subject at university. I think for most people who are following valuetainment aspire to create something big. It doesn’t only bring you monetary satisfaction but it also free’s you up to be able to do things you want, spend time with family and not be caught up in something that doesn’t make you happy. That’s just my understanding though !

My girlfriend and I want to grow and improve together. I'm 26 year old programmer she's 23 year old graphic designer and we are together almost 6 years She wants to write books and I support her. I want to make responsibilities easier and more fun for everyone. So I'm starting a software development company. I like helping people and making games so why not combine it? I guess we brought out our aspirations by encouraging each other. We both want to improve ourselves no matter how hard it is, because we both love each other. So in our case we did the inverse of what you suggest. I do agree with your strategy more though.

Why are old men grumpy? Several reasons: 1. Body is falling apart and everything hurts 2. Nobody cares nor respects them 3. They want a hot young wife not an old potato sack 4. Their Social Security check isn't enough to live on 5. They probably didn't save enough to make ends meet 6. Their own children have disowned them and see them as liabilities 7. Nursing home living sucks! 8. They are trapped in a body that doesn't even work anymore like it used to 9. They can't even take care of themselves and need people to dress them up 10. They miss their youth when they were able to do everything they wanted...oh the regrets!

Being single I could follow my dreams without being held back, I was my own boss without restrictions. Years on & I've accomplished my dreams, but at the expense of an equal & supportive spouse in my life...but now I can build on that dream & go for my next. Great vlog, thank you.

It was scary and extremely painful when, after seven years of blissful marriage, my second wife finally let it out - in a moment of more or less justified anger - that us being madly in love until the end of our life was not the way she imagined our relationship. In the meantime, she had gotten more and more frustrated with my lack of support, and I with not being able to share emotions, doubts, insecurities with her. It took me/us one and a half years to overcome this. But she was too good a human being to let her go. It is no longer the same arrangement, the happiness is still there - for both of us I hope - but we are still able to look at our future happily rather than grumpily look back at missed opportunities. As long as we feel ourselves powerful and immortal, it is easy to kick our dissatisfaction and missed aspiration down the road. But there comes a moment in our lives when we feel immortality leaving us. When this moment comes, if the bottom line is in red ink for whatever reason, it is very hard not to flip out. Usually, this is when men, in their very late forties, start acting like moody, irresponsible teenagers only to crash down and burn in a few years' time and become grumpy old men. When women realise there will be no Prince Charming to come and love and protect them from an empty, hollow nest, usually in their early fifties, they stop struggling to find a way out and start looking to get revenge for having been scorned by life. They want to shape a phantom of their ideal lives at the cost of bending others' lives like ruthless Miss Havishams. Of course, not all disappointed men end up grumpy old men, and not all disillusioned women and up old, bitter, malicious crones. But again, it is very difficult to completely avoid going down that path if you failed to follow your potential and your dreams by the end of your immortality.

To add to it, our dreams & aspirations may also change over time. We continue to somewhat suppress them; for the ‘greater good’ especially after years pass & you’re already knees deep in the life you had initially chosen and the ones you now feel obligated to. When my Mom was dying, she was 79 & wasn’t ready. It was like she really finally understood what all the years she’d spent sacrificing & giving of herself to others, really meant... that she’d never get a second chance to do something that really fed her own spirit and now it was too late. There are no ‘do-overs’, people.

I'm 41 Pat, raising five kids, and started this entrepreneurial journey five years ago. I know exactly what you're talking about. My wife and I are going to Vegas for our 13 year anniversary and participate in 3 days of Professional Defensive Handgun Training out at Front Sight Resort. Going to have that talk because I couldn't live with the regret of knowing that I could have saved lives if only I had been more committed to getting families trained and serving humanity which is currently under attack. 🇺🇸⚔🦅🏆👊🏼💥

You're a God sent Mr. Bet-David. All I can say is THANK YOU. Listening to you most often than not seems you are addressing something about me or talking to me directly. One of the best things that I'll treasure for life is being able to meet you one day, to offer my thanks in person. But since I'm yet unable to do that, let me do it via this medium--THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

Young man, people have been beat up all their lives with troubles, betrayals, problems, failures, deaths, financial losses and you havent even lived half the time that they have. See your point, but make your plans and many times God has a different agenda for you! Just sayin. Life is hard enough when you do everything right, screw up, just once, makes it that much more difficult, and it doesnt need to be you that did the screw up. Life can change in an instant. But good vid, thx

Hi "Hon", there is book that comes up with 101 good questions before engagement/marriage to go through and talk about it together. 1) dont call your wife "Babe", she is a grown up. You picture her not very nice 2) a "Big" life can have all kinds of connotations 3) You dont live to make other people "proud". 4) You can change course somewhere in your life 5) there needs to be regular time to have deep talks, all through your life. 6) Women find their "calling" often later in life.7) I like your "teachings", f.i. I have learnt most about crisis management raising kids having a partner and working/studying all at the same time.

We wouldn’t have gotten this far as a species if we did not have the tough conversations. Life is too short to not accomplish the things we want. Majority of our parents didn’t have the tough conversations thus most of us just settle. Settling is for those who are okay with being content. It’s amazing how a conversation and a different mindset can change you.

The Catholic Church has marriage setup as a sacrament. And you are supposed to go through marriage counseling before getting married. And it should really be about 6 months before wedding. And there would be classes that would be held weekly or monthly. All those things get discussed there. I love what you have put out here Patrick, it's awesome, and absolutely correct. I stated that the church conducts pre-marriage counseling too as it addresses everything that you discussed in your video.

You have no idea how perfect the timing is for this video. I’ve been trying to work out in my head how to have this conversation with my significant other. We’ve been together 4 years. She moved across the country with me for my job. She wants the typical white picket fence family life while I want to pursue something greater. Im on track to achieve that but it will require sacrifice for the next 10 years (im 27 now). This is the ONLY concern I have about our future. I will make sure to have the conversation this year. Your video helped me formulate how it will go. Thank you ✌️

I had this talk with her a few times throughout the relationship and she always failed to give an opinion on my plan or a plan of her own.. Thank you for talking me into taking myself seriously. My ex wife of 11 years divorced me last April. She was more ambitious than I was and when it was time for me to make a new life decision to change the family direction, she left me because I no longer served her purpose in life or her vision for her future. I'm 52 now and will never ever marry again. She wants to get back together and marry her but you can never go back home again. Put a plan together for your own life and take small steps to accomplish it and soon you will realize how much you can manifest in your life. Get it done my friend. I now live at peace with myself.

Also, you gotta learn to read the profile of your significant other. For example, my girlfriend is Venezuelan, a lot of people would say to be careful with latinas from a poor country for obvious reasons. However, she immigrated to Spain alone with all her hard earned savings from working in Ecuador (U.S. dollar there) and she has proven her independence and own aspirations. She wants to save € and invest in a farm back in Venezuela (where they desperately need sustainable food) and I have a passion for traveling and living in Latin America. Let’s just say I’ve had multiple girlfriends in the United States which I just couldn’t do anymore and I’ve dated other latinas and nothing compares to the situation I’m in right now. I have a beautiful, humble, educated , intelligent, and independent Gf from Venezuela who embraces her culture and authenticity yet came here (to Spain) on her own dollar for a better life. Best of both worlds.
