I generally test as INTP but I’m highly empathetic. While I don’t rely on my own emotions to make decisions, I understand that others have this power of connectivity to emotion and it would be crazy for me to dismiss this. This resulted in a lot of research into the processing habits of F types and ultimately leading to a type of what I’ll call logical empathy. Which may be an oxymoron but it does seem to be a deep understanding of those emotions and their value in the context of that person.

When I was about 12 I developed social anxiety and the need to please others to be accepted, which were the results of bullying. I started to actively work on those issues when I was 23(!). Now, at 26, I feel better than ever and recently took the 16 personalities test, and discovered I'm an INTP-t. After reading all of the characteristics I felt so understood. It almost scared me, since I never truly felt understood by anyone, not even my parents. But now that I know me, I'm sure I can take on anything life will throw at me in the future.

I feel like it is unfair to label INTPs as not empathetic, i see here in the comments and by my own experience as an INTP that we can be empathetic but in a different and logical way. At least in my case, the fact that i like to comprehend new concepts and seek for the truth encourages me to take into consideration people's point of view and try to truly understand it, also have a great respect for being ethical as i see it as the most logical and peaceful way to live in a society. We may not experience the emotion but we surely can understand it empathically.

It’s not a lack of empathy. I have empathy but the truth is more healing even if it comes off of a running chainsaw. I have emotional intelligence because it’s useful. @@nobodyimportant850 Of course I am strange to other people, especially because I am often a truth Taliban, and who the hell likes the Taliban. 😂 Well, I have INFJ girl friend , who is very special too. She has a huge capability to give other people a special warm feeling, she can sell things extremely well. But she is exhausted by the bullying too, especially the micro aggressions without any reason. As a reaction she wants to close down, stopping her NE to work at work. I am quiet desperate about this wish, because she blocks her potential with this regression. I told her talibanesk, as I am, about her failing anger management. I have trouble about this anger management too, but not about aggressions without a cause. Those people I see as small roaring children on the floor, and I treat them like children accordingly. Long story short, you know that this aggressions exists, and I fear , that your avoiding tactic limit your potential. I struggle on another point. I know I have to confront people with narcissistic traits, I sometimes practice this on random narcissistic people, but on work I am failing to often. Not untrue. It is what others feel. INTP empathy is just different from ordinary one and people often do not realize it.
@Jessica-kk1cz Жыл бұрын
The third - “lack of empathy” is factually wrong. The other channels are correct. We INTPs are empathetic, often much more so than other thinkers, and even more than some feelers, but we express it differently. For example, we will care enough to take the time help others solve their problems, instead of just “talk” about how we feel for the other person’s sad situation. Its like the difference of being “kind” vs. being “nice”. Many types are “nice’ in the superficial talk, but those “nice people” are not necessarily “kind” in action. INTPs don’t bother with pointless “nice” blather, we get right down to business helping, which is kind. We also help people be self-sufficient, and build their confidence, by making sure they’re successful during their challenging times. We also verbally eviscerate bullies of other people, even if no one else does out of fear, because we are not afraid of anything and we inherently despise bullies. Therefore, we INTPs are often thought of as leaders, because we’re more trustworthy, honest, courageous and solution oriented, and we help others be stronger, even at our own “expense” and if it makes logical sense for the situation. That’s because we’re motivated and are satisfied by perfection of solutions, even when that entails others take more control in the execution of the solution design. Some other types are more motivated by self-promotion and control; we couldn’t care less what others think to bother self-promotion because we know our strengths, and are comfortable with simply just that. And we’re happy to help when we’re needed.

I don't think you understand INTP's if you say we do not care about keeping time and don't respect our friendships and family. We extact people to live up to the same high standard we hold for ourselves. That makes keeping time, do as you say your going to do. Not making up excuses. We are daydreamers but we do have high moral standards.

I think they think we're weird because we question a lot instead of being like everyone else and just going with the flow. By the way, my relatives complain a lot about my constant questions, they say things like ´´why do you question so much?´´ or ´´stop asking, just accept it like everyone else does´´ I know it can be boring but honestly I don't care about these comments, and I'm not willing to give up my views just because they bother. After all: ''an unexamined life is not worth living''. And maybe that's why many of us intp are ´´alone´´, most people can't follow our line of reasoning, and can quickly give up trying to understand us, but if they tried a little harder they would see how amazing we are. They do understand the concept of empathy, in fact I think sometimes more than most others. It's not that they don't understand why they should care about what others are feeling, it's that we don't understand why others are caring about THEIR subjective feelings over objective logic (including their own)! In fact INTPs probably understand how others feel, before they know how they feel!!! Most INTPs don't care to lead or follow, they trailblaze! But it has nothing to do with emotional intelligence. It has to do with emotional security. They don't have the need to prove themselves to others, or the need for anyone to like them. They don't want to be controlled, by anyone and don't care to control others! INTPs are more flexible and open minded then most other types. INTPs prefer the truth! They DO NOT prefer to be in control of anyone! Or expect anyone to do as they say! They foster individuality in everyone around them! Fe is about cooperation! They minimize there words to not waste time, and are not detail orientated. They are big picture orientated and make decisions for the whole of the group, and not the individual. INTPs are only late for things when there minds are cluttered with too many thoughts. If they didn't respond to your email, maybe it was not directed specifically to them, or it wasn't clear you needed one, or they did, and you weren't smart enough to use your filters to keep it from the recycling bin. Even though they have Fe as their inferior function, it still causes them to seek out harmony, and would at least restrain ourselves from calling others names like "weird" or "emotionally immature". And would consider that very unprofessional. Sorry about your relationship! Maybe this is actually why we prefer to be alone!

As an INTP I see empathy is often a non-empathy and emotional smartness is actually emotional dumbness. We perceive this intuitively from the very start. In emotional conflicts and problems there are usually multiple sides and usual conventional empathy takes a side. While it is sometimes correct, it is not always so. Thus we realize it is actually we who are empathic as we can sympathize with both sides. It is us who are emotionally smart as we are the ones who do not join mobs and ostracize someone because we hear someone else's pleas first.
@LeorlGBelmar7 ай бұрын
INTPs DO have empathy, can have high "emotional intelligence", but decides to priorize more useful stuff or struggle to do something about it, specially if we see a more logical and practical way to solve it. (You see the solution to a problem that got your friend sad, and you want him to better, so you try to fix it, but your friend just needed a Hug). I do have empathy, and sometimes is a bit overwhelming so I decide to put it aside, and for a long time I thought that I didnt have emotions.

Emotional intelligence is a fiction you should scrub from your vocabulary immediately. Calling something intelligence implies a perceptive function, but people with "emotional intelligence" are really only capable of dealing with other people with "emotional intelligence" and can't actually perceive the state of INTPs and other thinking types. At best, it is just an expression of Fe, which INTPs do have, they just don't prioritize it.
