I really appreciate how direct yet un 'scripted' your videos are. It's clear all this knowledge is in your head and your heart 💖 I understand how much time and effort goes into these videos! I'm sure a short video would take well over an hour to produce.

I primarily work with bikes, which come standard with ITB's. The benefits come from the ability to maximize the air charge available to each cylinder. A single throttle will ALWAYS provide different volumes of air to different cylinders. More throttles and more o2/egt sensors = more better. :)

ITB with an airbox can also suffer from imbalance unless you are fortunate enough to have alot of realestate for a large volume box and large diameter inlet.
@kieranjamieson3 жыл бұрын
You can run a much more aggressive cam profile with ITBs and still have an engine that will idle, I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned in the video.

An unexpected downside of throwing them on AFTER camming the engine. The sexy idle disappears :(

You guys win the cigar by a mile, its the first time I have watched a video were diameter of the throttle body has even rated a mention, well done. There is a guy on KZbin call Richard Holdener and offered to pay for him to put a engine on the dyno and test if diameter was important. Hi reply "Everyone know its all about length and diameter has nothing to do with it so its a waste of time testing". I was putting 10 k on the table and that is what I got back, a closed mind.
@AccAkut19873 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I read a basic introduction to throttle body diameter in the Megasquirt introduction tutorials even.

Would have been easier and cheaper to test it yourself, why go through all the hassle?
@anthonyparle73423 жыл бұрын
@@greggreg6975 I have done the testing as I have my own dyno's and pressure transducers to read the pressure waves on intake and exhaust. I think there isn't enough development or understanding of what really happens with exhaust and intake pressure waves on a NA engine. Not everyone wants to fit a turbo. My purpose of making the offer to Richard was to open peoples minds to what pressure waves are all about and how you can use them to develop a lot more power in a NA engine. Simple fact often missed the timing of the wave is determined by the length of the intake but the force or size of the wave is determined by the diameter as has been mentioned in the video by Andre.
@greggreg69753 жыл бұрын
@@anthonyparle7342 ok you have lost me. What does the size of the throttle body have to do with the Internal diameter of the intake and exhaust manifold? As long as it flows enough air for it not to be a choke point.
@anthonyparle73423 жыл бұрын
@@greggreg6975 You are correct if you are not trying to tune for pressure waves. If the goal is highest VE possible then you need to reduce diameter to increase the pressure swing. It s far to complex a topic to discuss in comments. Maybe have a look at the post on Speed Talk were I posted a pressure trace. It might help you understand what the concept is. See link. www.speed-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=55767&start=150

Tuning the length is not about creating a RAM effect (that is something different). Tuning the length and diameter is more about Helmholtz tuning I think? Albeit lots of good info in that video as usual and I aways learn a few things, so thanks a lot. The other thing you didn't get a chance to touch on is taper angle of the trumpets. Done a bit of playing on a dyno with inlet trumpets playing with lengths and tapers and also just a little bit of work on variable length and dual stage and it is amzing how well theory and real world results actually match up. But still have lots more experiements I want to do.

How does this relate to BMW valvetronic? as in I'm trying to modify a N52 to run with open trumpets omitting the throttle bodies entirely.
@2090skid2 жыл бұрын
I've never modified a car, therefore sorry for the dumb question that is coming : If you install an ITB, you delete the air filter right? Then isn't this dangerous for the engine?
@hpa1012 жыл бұрын
This car actually runs filters, they're just off to show what we're talking about. You can run individual filters, a filter box over the top or in some applications a plenum chamber just to name a few options. Some people do run without filters, but it carries all the risks you assume it would. That said, risks can be different between different motorsport applications, such as drag racing vs dirt oval - Taz.
