One reason for the high prices is that OEMs are spending $10 billions to introduce EVs, and will have to abandon $10 billions in assets in ICE to meet government mandates. Meanwhile, EV sales are not large, EVs are cannibalizing ICE, and the free cash flow from ICE have to finance the transition. Yes, your ICE costs 20% more to subsidize EVs.

Dave Ramsey is an old man living 50 years ago. Yes, obviously it would be better to pay cash for a car or a house. However, when you look at what most 20-30 year olds are facing in cost, there's literally no way a person could ever buy a home. Payments aren't evil. Yeah, don't do a 10 year loan. But payments aren't bad in moderation. Totally disagree with that mentality to pay cash for every single thing. Secondly, the reason why prices have gone up is multifold like you guys mentioned. Reason 1 is that many car companies know they can get away with charging more for a cross over or SUV than a sedan, so they do. Even though like a Subaru Legacy and Outback are on the same platform. Why is there less sedans, well we can think the EPA's loop holes in the CAFE standards. Reason 2- COVID-19 messed up the supply. At some point, it will sort it's self out. It is funny to me though that companies like Ford were trying to say that the days of having huge stock were over, and every car would be built to order. Nope - customers don't like that. People like the idea that they're getting a deal, and paying MSRP isn't a deal. But it's gotten hard to make a deal when it's hard to negotiate. 3- Yes, many of the companies have gotten greedy. Some of the prices on trucks specifically is sickening. That's why we'll see used trucks keep their value so much because there will always be a need for a 10-20K pick up truck. But the fact they'll take a 30K base truck, and add 40-50K worth of options and crap is WILD to me.
@Bonanzaking3 ай бұрын
Vehicle prices haven’t really changed. More like most people don’t understand how inflation works, especially it’s compounding effect. I have a 1971 mustang my father bought new for 3,319 USD back in 71. He always stressed to me that back then that was 2 years wages for most people. If I look at a modern one same trim and everything, well what do you know 2 years wages for most people. On the trucks with a full sized quadcab at least they’ve gotten cheaper over the last 80 years. Originally only the government could afford them for the likes of the forestry service. They were about 8 years wages in the depression, now they’re about 2-3 years wages depending on options. Time is money….measure in time.
@jordanaraujo2579Ай бұрын
True making payments isn't a bad financial decision, while inflation continues to accelerate. I'd rather have a useful vehicle than worthless paper. Over time inflation will eat up all that interest that the lean holder is earning faster then most vehicles will depreciate. It just takes time eventually you actually end up ahead.

It's actually impressive. The power train remains very basic, and the 8 speed is very smooth. It was a reasonable price considering what you get for the money. My wife loves it but steals my Jeep. Lol. I would like to play in the big leagues, but I got priced out. I will not pay the big bucks for hybrid, battery operated, multiple turbo , overly complex, EPA MANIPULATED vehicles. Guys, please, next time you wanna discuss car prices, please invite some market expert, like a guy who knows EXACTLY the interaction between new car market and used car market, how people use their cars, what options they want BASES ON RESEARCH, not just "vIbEs". I can't stand this Porsche loving BSer!
