We've become accustomed to seeing members of the public use their cell phones to film police officers on duty. Now, we're starting to see cops pull out theirs, but it isn't to record. They're playing copyrighted music in an apparent attempt to exploit copyright filters. Dexter Thomas explains.

Everyone should do this when they don’t want to be an unwilling person in a viral video. Copywriten music would not have stopped justice in the Eric garner case. Any death of suspect would warrant the little effort to strip music from the video. Silent video would have led to conviction.

Right and it’s not like the original with sound doesn’t exist anymore when you record and can’t be watched or voiced over by news organisations. I’m not a big fan of the police and it’s good that cameras now have revealed some of the misuse that is happening but a lot of these “auditors” are just harassing people and are proving trouble to create viral content. No need to support that.

I feel like the simple solution to this problem is to just record interactions on your phone instead of doing it live. if you post the video, and it gets taken down, it won't be deleted from your phone's files. sure, you lose the benefits of the interaction being streamed live, but it insures you always have that video for when you need it. I guess another way of saying it is that you should only record an interaction live if you feel there is an imminent threat coming from police. if it's just them being hard to work with, and you don't see a threat, record it to your phone where you can then post the video later.

@@eduardoescalante1437 incorrect, the problem is the possibility of the video not being seen because of the music possibly triggering copyright, in this day and age a lot of cases get seen in court specifically because of the video of the incident going viral, gorge floyd, hell Ahmaud Arberys case was like months old before the videos came out and got the two shooters arrested, which probably would've never happened if we didn't see the videos

Counter to that. Cops play music loud, then the person under arrest, detainment, questioning or even a traffic stop can claim due to the music being too loud, “I could not hear/understand/get what he was saying for the reason/citation or arrest.”
