Why are Somalia and Ethiopia in a deepening diplomatic dispute? | Inside Story

A deal between Ethiopia and the breakaway region of Somaliland involving a new naval base, has further worsened diplomatic relations with Somalia.
Its government is furious at the agreement that would give landlocked Ethiopia access to the Red Sea. So far it is only a diplomatic dispute.
But why is this rift worsening and could there be wider consequences?

That is just a stupid comment. No landlocked country has as much a population as Ethiopia. Ethiopia is the 2nd most populous country in Africa and the most populous landlocked country in the world with over 120 million people living in the country. The 2nd most populous landlocked country is Uzbekistan with only 36 million population (see the difference??). and also Ethiopia spends around 2 billion dollars on ports when it doesn't even have enough food security. So Ethiopia needs access to the sea/ocean and the only peaceful way is through Somaliland.

The somalia representative spoke "Ethiopian federal govt has no total control of its federal states and hard to move outside of the capital Addis Abeba because of the rebels presence few kilometres outside of Addis", this is absolutely true and Abiy has no any controlling power outside of the capital. So we Ethiopians cannot speak about functionality of Somalia govt. The best way to move forward is to respect each other's sovereignty and to act proper way through diplomatic rules.
