I haven't play Val since launch, but this makes me want to play again, maybe once Vanguard settles down a bit. There's so many FPSes competing right now. These are some good videos, introspective and memey like Jakey, but less chaotic. Found the channel from that RDO video, even though I don't play that game. You already know this channel is gonna blow up soon.

I have put about 500 hours into Valorant, when I first ranked I was iron 2, I then for a few months played solely Valorant competitive and managed to claw my way up to plat 2. By the time I got there (about 200 hours of playtime) I no longer found competitive fun as I was either playing against a team of people we destroyed or got destroyed by, it felt like none of my games were balanced. I then started just playing unrated and spike rush to fill in this void, but after another couple 100 hours of game time I had gotten better again and I was playing against, and with, diamonds almost every match. These guys took the game (even unrated) extremely seriously and it once again demotivated me to play. I much preferred my time in iron while I was still learning the game and people took it less seriously. Every now and again I'll redownload Valorant play some competitive and the cycle continues. In Valorant the rage and annoyance far outweighs the times I'm feeling like a God, in CS, even when I'm playing seriously it still feels like a somewhat chill and good time whereas Valorant is constantly putting you under stress and making you feel like a complete idiot and noob for everything that you do.

I even paid "pros" to teach me how to play (25yo virgin here, thank you very much who only knows girls from fairytales and pictures, never even touched a woman's bajingo, was born by C-section) and the better I got the more I got my ass kicked by even better players. Pure and constant stress, it had it's moments but it's time to move on. I'm putting on my brown corduroy trousers and favorite hawaii shirt and go huntin' for the chiquitas, starting at Iron 1

Interesting take, but the real reason we're playing it? It's free. Doesn't matter if you suck at it or want to compete in world championships, you'll play it. There's been a shift in the industry in terms of "real estate" for the past 2 to 3 years - competitive/multiplayer games are now free. These games create audiences faster that stick for a long time, have an economy that is flourishing and long lasting for the studios and an investment that is set in cycles of development. You'll notice every major companies have all now a competitive game, and likely a free one at that. Valorant is only the second big game project gof Riot, but they had LoL for over 10 years now, and it's still going strong. Valorant is just going to be that for competitive FPS. It fills a spot between the casual Overwatch and demanding CSGO, which a selling point by itself. The game itself is quality for sure, but it's not meant for everyone. This business model isn't new, but it's gained a lot of traction with the spread of better computers and mobile gaming - remember that Fortnite, PUBG, Wild Rift & Warzone are all available on your smartphone, completely for free. That's quite something in terms of "real estate", where the studios have to fight for your attention. And I'm not even talking about games Genshin Impact and Clash Royale and others - names that you can find in the top 10 biggest mobile games in revenues, which are counted in billions of $. Valorant is just a market niche that Riot exploited to "diversify their portfolio", so to speak. LoL ain't gonna work forever, no matter how good it's performing now, so they look to other places, which is a sane thing to do for a company like that.

To me It's like OverLoL for people that liked cs a bit more. Thing is, I like cs and that's it. Since my friends moved from cs to other games I never play with my them at anything because they all wanted to scream at their monitor for a whole night. I mean, they loved League. I always played other games like Skyrim, Witcher 3 on my own because I get anxious and uncomfortable when i'm not in control of things, and playing team games is just a gamble and I never liked gambling. Guess that's why I chose to be a goalie when I was young. PS: the thing about skins. WHY? Feel like people have ZERO perspective with how much they spend in a game that is SO obviously made for folks to spend crazy amounts of money. Yeah, I get the whole "support the devs", but people should really have a limit in the amount they spend. How much do you spend in a whole year actually buying games? How much do you love the game? How many dark patterns does it have that try to turn you into the perfect customer? It makes me particularly mad with how much they get away with. I mean, as soon as I saw that every gun was as bland as my life I uninstalled. Yes, I also understant that this game isn't targeted to me lmao But do you understand what I'm saying? It's nuts. The game is already beautiful wtf else do you want? I only play Fortnite every once in a while because you can get the season pass for free if you play "enough". Just play 1-2 hours for a week before the season ends so you level up quickly and claim the 300 free vbucks. Since every season lasts 3 months, you can get a free pass in a year wich itself has enough coins for you to get the next battle pass, plus some more vbucks just because. Thing is in the whole year you would play for almost a month, 1-2 hours a day. And I get that this is another dark pattern because most people do NOT have patience at all. Especially kids, so y'all would end up buying it anyways. wth i wrote A LOT. Sorry if you read all of it and felt like you wasted time. It's just that consumers are so easy to consume.

I'd love to see you talk about Overwatch. I've played CSGO, Valorant and Apex but none of them gripped me. I jumped on Overwatch quite recently and honestly I really enjoy it, I feel like Valorant is trying too much to be like CSGO and Overwatch that it just doesn't pull off the best qualities of those games, I have had fun in it just not as much as other games in a similar vein.
