Why are we OBSESSED with MIU MIU?!

All I keep hearing is Miu Miu this and Miu Miu that so I decided to investigate exactly why we are so obsessed with Miu Miu at the moment. As recently as 2020, we really weren't talking much about Prada's sister brand Miu Miu until all of a it became one of the hottest luxury brands. I think it was "right place right time" situation. Y2K quirkiness came back and Miu Miu has always been a bit quirky and youthful so they benefited from the zeitgeist. Prices being more reasonable was def a part of it too

I was just shopping at Miu Miu in Miami and I couldn’t believe that the prices were up to Chanel level for shoes and sunglasses. This brand used to be a little more affordable than Prada for a younger audience. It is quite a change from a few years ago.

Cassie you've missed the most important point here over these 3 you've mentioned. The answer to boosting success of Miu is simple: The Best stylist today Lotta Volkova is working in Miu Miu since 2020 (since that time you may notice how brand began to move in totally another fresh direction, show SS21 is a starting point). She is the one who incorporated philosophy of overlaying into the brand, mini skirts, ballerinas and much more. She combines such stuff together that none of us could have ever imagine in the looks and it always looks magnetic. She is the main advisor to the brand and knows how to hype on things. Lotta and Miuccia collaboration stands in the core of Miu to be on the top of the list. Genius designer + genius stylist = profit. Miu Miu is hell overpriced, however fabrics and silhouettes are the best always. As well ad campaigns are the best in industry, collaboration with photographers Tyron Lebon, Zoe Ghertner and all sets are also styled by Lotta. Church's is a subsidiary brand owned by Prada Group (their internal brand) so it's not collaboration in fact. They include Church's shoes into Miu Miu looks to increase Church's revenue.

Great video!! I completely agree with you when you mentioned that Miu Miu was essentially non existent ( as far as popularity)until that infamous collection with the micro mini skirt. I had not gone into a Miu Miu store in NYC for at least 15 years until that collection came out. I never like those matelasse leather bags and it didn't seem like they did anything new as far as the bags go for years. I did hear that their sunglasses were very popular and a big money maker for the brand. I also think Miu Miu is very expensive. I believe they should be in the price range of Jacquemus since they are catering to a younger audience. They should take advantage of Raf Simons and have a larger collection of menswear. The label should say Raf Simon's for Miu Miu. Since he no longer has his own line, the hypebeast boys would go insane. Have a great fashion week !!!😀

yes, sunglasses, but also their heels, at least in my "circles", were known for being those comfortable luxury shoes. but at a lower price point than alaia. what i also noticed, pre y2k comeback thus pre miu miu comeback, miu miu was marketed as prada's younger cousin, but mostly worn by women in their 40s and up. especially patterned pieces

Thanks for the research !!! I definitely think the 90's and 00's revival has played into this. I've always been more a Prada lady (shoes and bags, can't afford the RTW LOL), but have bought some Miu Miu boots and those 3 strap shoes over the past years. I also love that little pocket bag and may still get it for the summer. I don't think I've particularly been influenced since I don't feel hyped, but I have spotted some cute pieces and I may not have looked had they not become more visible!

The answer is ALWAYS marketing. Marketers have been simply pushing the Miu Miu agenda if you've been hearing more of it. The skirt is a perfect example of how that works. It's not a beautiful skirt by any means, but it caused controversy in a way that drove up sales (unlike the Balenciaga setback). Personally I'd always liked the Mu Miu brand and in my 20s I preferred it to the other brands. It has always had a reputation for being playful and frivolous. I purchased my Miu Miu Bird Suede and Python Clutch handbag in 2010. Still have it. It was money well-spent. Gorgeous.

Miu Miu is probably one of the most original secondary (if I may call it that) brands in fashion today. They set trends and their inspiration along with quirkiness always gets buzz. Not only that, they get knocked off by tons of lower priced brands and “fast fashion” retailers. They clearly know what they’re doing. It must be in select countries only. I do not see them out in the wild at all. Never seen it in Germany, Italy, France (not Paris), Austria, Switzerland, UK or Barcelona. I go often to these countries so it is hard to believe. I also don't know anyone who has a Miu Miu piece in my group of family and friends. It is crazy what social media can do, but I still have no interest in the brand. The vortex hasn't pulled me in. What I did notice, which surprised me was how Zadig and Voltaire is taking Barcelona by storm! Every girl and boy is wearing one of their bags. In other countries nobody is talking about them. Social media is also not talking about them. I knew there was huge preferences between the European and Asian market, but now we are starting to see certain shifts in countries/places. Perhaps like you said, because they are more affordable and still deliver quality. Good topic!

Yes I seen that skirt everywhere! Online and also I agree before the skirt, I didn’t even know Miu Miu existed and another thing (only in my instance) is that I am korean there was a sudden rise of interest where kpop idols especially Wonyoung who wore the iconic skirt set and and underwear and starting to wear Miu Miu that caught more people talking and all of sudden there had been kpop idols who became ambassador of Miu Miu (I’m not sure of the west but after Wonyoung started wear Miumiu clothes everywhere, it had a big influence of interest in korea, china, and japan

It's been my favorite brand for over 20 years and the tumble weeds period completely passed me by. I think Miuccia Prada is a genius.The Miu Miu shoes are so quirky and different that they can be worn for years and make an outfit.

Also, it is very interesting to see the collab with Church’s since they are both part of the Prada group. It would be something similar to a Prada-MiuMiu collab, but people have probably less awareness of other brands part of the conglomerate. I think it’s a great strategy to have costumers checking both brands when you own both

Miu Miu has been hot for a while now, and people are suddenly becoming engaged. Definitely garnered more attention around the time Lori Harvey and other celebrities like Dua Lipa wore the red gingham Miu Miu league cropped jacket.. Miu Miu has always been hot. Here me out: Since Raf joined Prada it has allowed Miss Prada to focus on Miu Miu. Personally I REALLY loved Prada before Raf. Miu Miu has never been a fav of mine during fashion week and I kept up with Miu Miu ever since. There's been a shift and I think it's Miuccia doing her thing

I think you’re right and I remember about 10 years ago Miu Miu used to be the cheaper of the two brands by hundreds or thousands now it’s pretty much equivalent in price to Prada. It’s certainly the Y2K fad we have going that’s keeping this moving. I think secretly RAF in some way is behind all these decisions. I also remember Prada just not being as popular as it is today say, 10 years ago. RAF really has turned around the brand especially with putting the logo on everything. I heard though they were going to maybe sell the Prada brand in the next couple years as miuccia is getting 👵
