Mary-Kate and Ashley have never never ever followed trends, The Row has been doing this for ages, only now it’s trendy as you say. I feel for the Olsens, it is so obvious why they don’t want to be in the media. They were in the public eye since they were born and ALWAYS working (even comparing to other child stars their schedules were insane). I think their past plays a big part not only in The Row and its collections, the PR, the instagram, the playlists they put out every month.

The one good thing about The Row is that you can mix up pieces with funkier clothes and make them a part of your own style. The Row isn't my vibe either, but I do their pieces on an individual level since I can see where they would fit in with my style. Also, the quality is amazing, in an age where luxury fashion is quality challenged. The price is high, so many people may get one or two pieces, but the quality makes it a good investment as far as long-term wear. I wish The Row had more color in the collections. There is such a thing as too much beige. 😂
@giedrebey5444 Жыл бұрын
I agree. You can make your own. No need to dress from head to toe in oversized clothes, but adding pieces to your own style, you can make it very interesting. I like trends, i like classic pieces, so i love sone pieces from the row, actually more that Brunello, just because the row has better fit, if you have hourglass figure Brunello skirts or dresses dont do no good for your body. So i prefer The row

I think it's also interesting to see that wide range of AGES of the models for The Row. I was just going through their site as I was listening to your video and you see young women in their 20's but then you see women in their 30's, 40's, 50's+ on their site. I think that definitely helps cater to their wide range of customers :)

I have to admit the highest number of luxury RTW I have and can count on when i dont know what to throw on is The Row. I also like their bags for running around (i have the bindle). Before I knew it was a brand affiliated with the Olsen twins, I bought their high quality items (100% camel wool, or tailored suits without polyester) on sale and this was 6 years ago? I still wear them to teach! But what keeps me going back is that they cater to curvier gals (me!) sizes larger than a 10 (me!) and the fit is truly comfortable and versatile.

Great content. IMO “Made in Italy” probably does them even more favours, we know from different reports and news articles it doesn’t mean as much as we think it does but for branding reasons it fits very well

So informative!! Im a few years older than you so I like their earlier material like "The Adventures of Mary Kate and Ashley" and "MK and A Sleepover"lol. I think their brand is very representative of their life. MKA have been celebrities since they were babies which means they have had their own money since that time. They are different that other celebs in that they came into money young (and their parents werent poor either) and so they have a very "Im not new to this" vibe. Their secrecy is very on par with Disney kids who get traumatized by fame in their teens and just want to disappear. The style of the Row is what they wore during NYU days to try and go unnoticed. They wrapped their experience into a brand and it worked.

MK&A have had a clothing line since Full House so no doubt they have learnt more than a thing or two to get The Row to where it is today! Like many have said, it’s great to see these two grow their business over the years & break through the stereotypes. I didn’t realise VB had so many financial issues but glad to hear the brand has stayed afloat & got through it!

Outstanding analysis. This is so spot on! They know their customer. If they chase trends that means their customer does and that put the brand at risk of losing them the moment they don't jump on "the next hot thing" that lasts .2 seconds. If I had the means I would not be head to toe The Row... not my vibe, but I would invest in a couple pieces because I adore impeccable quality.

The Row has copied Jill Sander when Jill was designing in 2001. I worked at Jill Sander in those days and it’s exactly the copy. And Jill Sander was super expensive. That market was lost and these two hoped on it. Clever girls.

There are many, very valid reasons people love The Row. Mary's Room created an excellent, deep dive video on The Row. If you watch her whole video, you completely understand why people are crazy about The Row, especially people who love fine fabrics, beautiful and extremely creative silhouettes, pristine overall look. There is a lot more to their neutral pallet than many designer, ready to wear buyers know. Mary's video taps into all of this.

Every now and then the Row eats…bought their Trude pant ON SALE in a linen/ cotton blend it’s wide leg with a corseted waist. I’m contemplating the black wool/ silk pair. Also I’ve bought a few pieces from the real real, I think the brand is very New York, very millennial who was a 90s kid, up reading Vogue in the 90s when Caroline Basset Kennedy was in tabloid.

I like The Row just fine, but I AM a 60 year old, so I suppose I slide into their demographic. I have a bag (the leather is GLORIOUS) and some knitwear, which I love and the quality is superb, but their price point is too far out my range to be considered a “customer”. Funnily, it was years before I knew the Olsens were behind the brand as they were children during their acting career while I was already an adult, and you could have knocked me over with a feather. But, what clever, clever young women. I like the aesthetic, but I’m only 5’4”, and much of it just swallows me. Really great knitwear, though. Happy weekend, Cassie! Great description of their brand. I applaud you for investing time to look into a brand that isn’t necessarily your personal style. I grew up when the twins were on TGIF. It is still bizarre that they are now this type of adult. I think they have successfully crossed to another profession. I like how you put it- they breed their persona into the brand. Even though I don't own anything from the Row and it's not my vibe, I definitely respect what they've achieved. I get why the one woman said maybe she'll regret dressing like a 60 year old, but I don't see the problem if she's enjoying it. I'm 30, and I don't know what it would mean to dress like a 30 year old woman haha. I suppose that's the nature of "ageless" dressing. All the celebrities don't look "old" wearing The Row. They look chic.

My Girl you hit the mail on the head when you dissected Kate and Ashley’s “secret sauce”! I agree with you wholeheartedly those girls stayed true to their vision hence that’s why they are successful! But the fit and the look is insanely stunning 🤩

I think the typical Cartier pieces became too popular and so the trend moved on to another luxury jewelry. Once VCA will become present everywhere with a ton of fakes (we might already be there 😂), we will be onto the next thing. Also VCA Alhambra pieces come in many different stones, making people want to collect them all.

The Row has never appealed to me although I am Scandinavian and can appreciate their estethic. I was in a store the other day where they carried The Row so I could touch, feel and try on. No doubt one gets great quality but I can’t defend their pricing. Very comparable is Khaite, but also Totême. The latter I find has more of an edge. I walked out both with Khaite and Totême. My first conscious «quiet luxury» purchase ever. I am not so sure that The Row pricing is justified. It’s not just the quality but maybe more the fact the air of luxury they have managed to succeed with? In that case it’s masterful marketing. I feel the same about Loro Piana and Brunello Cucinelli although it happens that I tap into the brand. All these items are a pleasure to wear, might be more sustainable but don’t wear any longer than my H&M T-shirts for example. If I am going to be really honest I think it comes down to us as consumers and how easily pursuaded we are to follow trends. I predict this trend will be gone next year, but that these brands will still be quietly around like before because they serve a purpose to some.
@aniapalus9530 Жыл бұрын
Thank you, I love your comment. Same about Loro Piana. (again I looked hideous in their sweaters so it contributed to my self-pitying). I wondered if quality is really worth the $. Now I know the answer. Thank you for reminding me that Toteme exists!

I wouldn't have understood The Row a few years back, when all I cared was quantity and flashy pieces. Now, and after making an effort to buy more high quality garments, I fully appreciate the look and feel of excellent quality. I still buy some Mango and Zara, but those items wear, look, and FEEL so different from my more pricey pieces of clothing. Fabric and cut make a difference we only understand after we've put them on and thought, "yes, exactly."

Would be great to hear you do a broader review of similar brands in this space - a comparison with Loro Piana, Brunello Cucinelli, Khaite and Toteme, for example. Agree some is synthetic with the price of real thing, but that happens in all brands. I never understood why i want to pay thousands for synthetic stuff, exception Chanel. Their fabrics even not natural, they still wear well. It just works most of the time. But other brands fail miserable in that department. For example i purchased Fendi runway skirt and cropped top set. Its not cheap and got sold out fast. The fit is gorgeous But the quality horrible. By the time i put on, i pulled knits , so what it would look after wearing🤪😱

The Olsen sisters stand at 5'2", yet nobody else having that height can wear their clothes unless half the pants/skirts/sleeves are cut off.... Almost impossible finding anything that fits a short person. Their clothes look good on then because they are probably tailored for their size. About their leather goods, belts are a disaster. The LA store is pretty well stocked for anyone interested and who happens to be 6feet tall and size 2....

Thank you for the scoop on The Row. I used to watch them as toddlers on Full House. Interesting that they have evolved to building a successful, private fashion house leading in the luxury space. I don't dispute that their line of products is quality based, elegant, classic, etc., but I do still balk at the prices. I guess that there is a clientele that doesn't bat an eye at spending $14K for a coat. May be one day, I will be in the bracket, but for now, it seems too excessive, even if I did have the money.

How do you think the row differs from Loro Piana or Bruno Cuncinelli in terms of aesthetics and philosophies?

To me the row more hip, more closer to trends. Like they have these maxi close to body dresses, slip dresses( i finally purchased one from them. Was looking to get a slip dress for a longtime, but just something was off , from other brands) and they make cropped things as well. Also cut , to me , is better , i tried BC and the cuts dont serve well if you have hourglass figure ) .

Like everyone says, for me it’s the quality. I purchased a bag from The Row years ago and haven’t looked back since!
