I don't want to stay young as much as how the world wants me to. I just want a simple skincare, and age gracefully like Audrey Hepburn or Piers Brosnan without the aid of plastic surgeries.

W. Nothing wrong with putting work into your appearance but plastic surgery is a terrible terrible curse for the women that go through it. I have yet to see one example of a woman who looks better after plastic surgery when compared to before. You literally sacrifice your face to get a look that somebody else sacrificed their face to get. Keep your natural looks. You were designed that way intentionally by a loving creator.

You’re 100% right Lana, BUT I would say a large component of the desire to not age is due to medical/big health companies pushing this stuff as part of marketing strategies. Trend chasing and marketing push these things a lot more subliminally than outright selling products

Reminds me of the saying everyone wants to become old but nobody wants to be old.

I cant wait to be old. I'm not rushing to die but I think older people are more capable of grace. Closer to the end I think my natural ambivalence will turn to grace. I cant wait.

Some people are never old. I met such people. Now they are really old, they look old, their body is falling apart, but they are not old. They retain a mindset and a zest for life that is truly encouraging. I think it all depends on how you look at it. That said, all these people, if offered a sure way to remove the aches, discomforts, and pains of being old, if they could regain their energy and the vigor of youth, they would. But they are not of the mindset that an earthly life is something to cling to, but are content that this is part of the natural process. It is easy to complain about one's lot in life, particularly the things outside our control, making ourselves miserable, or we can focus on the blessing we do have.

IMO, people nowadays care far too much what others think of them and to be mass-compatible. To do what others do. Why? Bringing up my daughter, one of the most important things was to teach her to think about things herself, to be true to herself and not constantly think about what others might think about her. And that you, well, inevitably age.

I would posit that these young people are looking at the wrong mirror. They are obsessed with a beauty that is literally skin deep. As you go though life, you learn that it's not the physical that makes you want to stay around people, but it's the personality, it's the values, it is who you really are as a person. I fear that these people are spending too much time trying to look beautiful, and would suggest that the same care, time, and devotion would be better served and have greater effect if it was all directed to becoming beautiful. Also reminds me of Frodo meeting Strider. "I think that a servant of the enemy would look fairer and feel fouler."

Plastic surgery is repulsive. 99% of men find the cookie cutter faces that result from it nasty. Advice for women? Unless you are completely self obsessed dont do plastic surgery. Its a waste of your time money and beauty. I have yet to see a woman who looks better after plastic surgery. I always see women discussing unattainable beauty standards but I have never met a man who wants a supermodel over a good wife or mother. Work on your interior first. This has been mansplaining with Al. Tune in next week for another fascinating topic you think you understand. (What can I say my fiance loves when I explain things into the dirt)

I came back to admit I have not met all men and there may well be many who prefer the chiseled cheekbones (pun intended) of those who have gone through plastic surgery over the fairer attributes of women but I would insist those people aren't worth carving out time for. (pun intended) While I'm reflecting another thing I should add is your interior may well be wonderful and in that case you should surround yourself with people who value who you are above the style of the era. And even if you are a particularly vain person there are lots of things that can make you more beautiful that aren't carving up your skin even if personality isn't an issue.

A final note for anyone reading that has undergone the knife and made it this far. I would like to impart to you that not all is lost. Although your face won't ever be the same you can turn that painful understanding into something fruitful with enough hard work or good guidance, I often require the latter.

😐 1. you have the right to speak for what 1 man 'finds nasty'. yourself. not '99% of men'. 2. there's plenty of men who get work done as well. so how is what 'men find nasty' relevant to ANY of this?
@allistertheeldritchmemegod3537

@happymess3219 I'm just reporting what I know. I've not met a single man who prefers a plastic surgery face over a natural face. You really should read everything I wrote because I did admit I haven't met every man to ever live. I feel certain I can say 99% dont like it because 1% of all men is still quite a lot of men and by extention room for error. Its relevant because many people go through these sorts of operations to make themselves more appealing, Is that always the reason? Nope, but to pretend plastic surgery is never an attempt to garner attention is simply silly. I cant tell you what to think though so you do you my friend. I just feel bad for what the obsessive control over looks does to some people. Thats all :)

Slowing aging at 14.... well that kids parents sure taught her priorities right! I know that there is no manual for being a good parent but come on! Oh man sometimes i feel the future generation is fucked! Getting older was never easy and there are many examples from the start of the history from people trying to hold on to their youth BUT that's not the solution! I remember a quote, from the creator of Star Trek i think, about Patrick Stewart having no hair, i think the question was "I'm sure that by 24th century there will be a cure for baldness" and his answer was "by the 24th century no one will care". Which was a beautiful sentiment and it seems we are going the exact opposite way more like the movie Idiocracy where scientists were focused on solving hair loss and prolonging erections!

Lana, as much as I appreciate your thesis, I think a larger point needs consideration. NOTICE..... INTELLECT, expressed as STATURE in the Humanities, is inversely proportional to an individual's aspiration for immutability in beauty. THUS.... DECLINE in pursuits leading to enhancements of cognitive power, in public forums, is strongly in evidence on the battle fields of personal priorities. But why?? Why is adolescent sex-change more important than learning the functions of calculus or expressing the power of figuration in Latin?? Thus, you ask the wrong question... "Why are we terrified of aging?" NO!! Why do we promote ideology as pathway to decline in education? Why ignore moral authority in preference for a moment of solipsistic joy??
