I think the biggest problem with BJJ is 90% of the training starts on the ground and there is almost no takedown practice whereas wrestling is the opposite
@crazyjimheath

yeah it's weird , they gotta set it up with grapple ... or ground , like you said ... some of the BJJ during fights can be entertaining ... i get frustrated when they use the wrestling to dominate control (ragdolling) or wrapping the legs .. it's worse than the BJJ ...i swear lolol ... i love stand up .. but i can appreciate certain aspects of BJJ and wrestling ... that last Merab fight was terrible , just a boring thing to see .. the way i see it ..IF you aren't doing submission attempts or ground and pound with a ton of takedowns ... it's boring for fans , you aren't doing much damage ..it's point fighting ... basically trying to gas the guy and get the decision win .. great strategy ..but sucks to watch

Yep, I've given up on rooting for BJJ elites VS Wrestling elites now, the BJJ guy wants the wrestler in his guard, not realizing the wrestler ALSO trains submissions and control, but does so from a superior position.

Jiu-Jitsu guys either need to follow the Burns or Maia path. Either develop striking skills and use your jiu-jitsu to scare wrestlers from shooting on you or develop a good wrestling and a strong top game. The way Kron Gracie fought was figured out at UFC 5 by Ken Shamrock.

To be honest guru is on point making this video because I've always thought about how JJ could be fixed and it's with wrestling/Judo(real not Olympic) fusion, it essentially just becomes Sambo at that point though. Whenever I get rich I'm going to start a dojo here in the rough neighborhood I live in. I'm going to hire a kickboxing guy for the striking, and get a wrestler, judoka and a sambist together to develop an aggressive style that's similar to Sambo but with an American twist. Jacare was a black belt for decades and was top ranked fighter and his BJJ didn't worked against Gastelum who received his black belt only the same year when he fouht Jacare. Miocic knocked out Werdum. There are plenty of videos of competitions where karate, hapkido are not allowed to punch bjj guy and bjj guy easily submits them. Rickson Gracie has an issue with the state of BJJ today. He contends that it needs to be taught as a self defense rather than the sport BJJ aspect that has become more prevalent. Its multiple factors some of them are somewhat stubborn and think its still 1993 so they don't really try hard to learn other martial arts Other factor is jiu-jitsu is kinda slow and not really explosive that much so they don't focus that much on their athletic side and mma requires u to be pretty athletic They're obsessed with technique and don't give athletic ability that much care like traditional martial arts like wushu or something they just practice the moves usually and don't focus on being an athlete Jiu-jitsu also has weak takedowns and being not explosive makes them a bit slower at striking until they give it full attention

However, Kron and Ryan were literally doing NOTHING BUT Jiu Jitsu in a MMA match which consists of striking, wrestling and Jiu Jitsu. You cannot just be one dimensional and expect to win. Catch wrestling was deemed too dangerous for American schools since it involved chockes and bone breaking submissions. So the schools modified it taking out the submissions and chokes and called it Folkstyle wrestling. Catch wrestling is what Helio was tought under some Catch wrestling submissions specialist. This guy makes some decent points about the limitations of the guard pulling sport style of Jiu-Jitsu without any wrestling. Nobody’s arguing that that’s not going to be the most effective strategy in MMA. However, he fails to mention that the rule sets of MMA are more favourable to a striking stand up style, primarily due to the fact fighters can use the cage to get up more easily and if they can focus on not getting taken down and delay the takedown as long as possible late into the round and ride out the round if they do get taken down, they get stood back up at the beginning of the next round, so this has greatly reduced the prevalence of submission grappling in MMA. And even with these limitations, you still see tons of Jiu Jitsu submissions in MMA. If the round structure of MMA and cage weren’t such detrimental factors to grapplers, the threat of submissions would be a much bigger issue MMA fighters would have to contend with than it already is. That’s just my 2 cents on the matter. 😊 PS: Hearing what martial disciplines are considered “Soy” and which are “Chad” from someone that can easily be characterized as a fat neckbeard themselves was the ironic comedy of this video. Look in the mirror and fix your own soy issues before you leverage it as an insult against others.

I think it’s worth noting that what you’re saying was originally one of the selling points of BJJ-that it is a self-defense art specifically for the smaller, weaker, less athletic people of the world. The Gracies did claim that was the entire point. So what you’re saying is actually not that shocking or surprising at all. Helio Gracie himself said that the objective is not necessarily to win, but to survive. To not lose. Which, for someone who is small, weak, and unathletic, is kind of important if you’re ever unfortunate enough to wind up in a fight. Realistically, that person is not going to KO or double leg their attacker. The goal was to not be a total sitting duck, to let the fight go to the ground and then to be able to survive, wait for the other guy to gas out and then either escape or submit them.

As a BJJ Purple belt It can be highly effective if done right with body locks , double legs , singles etc . Unfortunately lots of Bjj schools don't really do takedowns or do more MMA based with wresling

You can train BJJ for 15 years, and never be tough. You can't make it through the first week of Muay Thai, without some degree of toughness.

Mua Thai doesn't compare to wrestling though it's kinda got the same gap from mt to bjj

One of my best buddies got his black belt in jitz about 10 years ago. 5 short years later he transitioned to a shemale. Zero jokes. This is obviously a over the top example. But still true story

"One of the greatest minds in the sport" Joe said during The Hall fight

One of the funniest commentary moments ever was when Hall unsuccessfully rolled at Topuria for the dozenth time and was folded up underneath him like a contortionist while Topuria was deciding whether he should ground and pound him or just stand up and Rogan shouted “Topuria’s in trouble here!”

I'm no expert, but I had a summer of Judo as a kid and a season of wrestling in high school, and wrestling definitely is the best conditioning when it comes to stamina or cardio and wind, better by far than I ever had in football, baseball, and basketball.

yeah judo guys are very strong as well but wrestling cardio is amazing

@@MrSpiralling We did 12 minute drills with mixed exercises non-stop, to prepare for the 6 minute rounds. For 12 minutes you'd be running in place, push ups, sit ups, jumping jacks, constantly moving.

No athletes from Regular Teamsports are even close to wrestling shape. They all lack either cardio or strength. It's such a great sport

@@jonwifebeaterjones6389 The conditioning we did in football and basketball was basically just running long distance and sprinting and jumping, lateral side to side running, weight lifting, calisthenics, all good, but not as effective as the prep for constant straining in wrestling for six minutes straight each round.

I’ve done a little bit of everything MMA,Muay Thai, taekwondo and BJJ. What I love about BJJ or grappling I general is that you can go all out and not be afraid of your own or your partners health witch is very good for a real life fight scenario being used to fight at high intensity. I’ve always been lifting weights and when I worked as a security guard for 6 years so I’ve been in some violent situations. And the one Marital art that helped me most was definitely BJJ combined with the fact that I was pretty strong and could over power a lot of people and drag them/takedown to the ground and control them from there with ease. The fact that skinny bullied kids do jujutsu just shows how effective the art is for self defense and confidence. I’d rather have them in the jujutsu class or they go to some other weird stuff… Anyway I don’t even remember the point I was going to make expect that jujutsu guys should lift weights.

Guru i love your channel and this is one of the most based mma takes I’ve ever heard. It’s completely correct and because it hurts feelings, nobody will say it..watching him hold in smiles and laughter the whole time was great. The UFC is better with MMA GURU doing his thing.

if you put a pure boxer who never trained mma vs a pure ju jitsu guy who never trained mma either ju jitsu has a better chance of winning especially if the boxer has no takedown defense
