This is something that will come natural to players the more they play. What works and what doesn’t. If it works for you then fine but be open to new methods and techniques of all kind. There is no wrong method if it works.

It only comes "natural" if a person is really paying attention and trying to solve problems. Otherwise, someone can play for years and years and still be stuck. It's also important to know the common, important things for mastering a technique and not think you can do just "whatever feels good". Otherwise you waste a lot of time...thinking you're reinventing the wheel.

I am always having trouble when crossing the strings in a 1-2-3-4/2-3-4-5/3-4-5-6 etc.like sequence , i am a dedicated directional picking guy , but the point where i have to go back and forth between two strings more than once at a time is really a pain , i would be very happy to see a demonstration of such kind of licks. Thanks for the tips by the way.

I was doing Pebber Browns harmonic exercises (047, 058 on strings B&E) and found myself going back to this. Trying to switch slant orientation. I think this drill is something Ill be working on for a bit. RIP Pebber, always honest about things. Real bummer to learn today that he passed away last year. Ill always think of him as the sensei of a Cobra Kai school of guitar. That said I switched from Sarod back to an alternate picking based approach, still could use each for different solos just put in some contrast.

For all my metalheads, the lead lick before the verse in "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is another good way to practice this.

Which one is correct? It’s what works for you. Look at how Marty Friedman holds the pick, it’s unorthodox and runs circles around majority of guitarists out there.

I'm sorry but the movement is wide? so does the pick have to rest on the neighboring strings during the up and down movement or is the movement tight around the string?

What about the inclination of the pick, are you playing sliding through the edge or clean kicking from the side?

What you are doing there Is two way pickslanting, always downward exept the last note before the string change, which is an upward pickslanting up pick (Rusty Cooley style). Somebody does all upward pickslanting on the G, instead that just the last note. I`m still figuring out which technique Is the best, anyone?

@@HowToPracticeGuitar I’m my view you are doing a very subtle combination of minimally lifting the pick away from the guitar (string hopping) with minimal two way pick slanting and as you play faster it gets more subtle and more 2 way pick slanting. The key that I am working on is very precise minimal pick depth so that the required hopping or 2 way slanting is minimized. I don’t think many players can use lifting/hopping above 120 bpm or so but some can and do

It's really simple...when you do an "escape" upstroke (one that has to get out of the strings), you lean more into the right side of your Palm. Your palm is against the strings around the base of your wrist to mute the lower strings. That's your contact point. So you simply have to angle slightly more into the right side of it when doing an escape upstroke. And you lean more into the left side to do an escape downstroke. It's that simple. Angles are already taken care of by having a slight angle against thr strong with the pick (something like 30-45 degrees for instance). You keep your contact point with the base of your Palm around the wrist like I mentioned earlier...and you simply slightly lean into either side of that central contact point to help with escape strokes.

Great video! What if you do the same pattern, but make the last note a dowstroke?
@eerokkitube
@eerokkitube 2 жыл бұрын
I think It's harder to loop that way, it starts with downstroke so putting that there would make it 3 downs in a row
@fabriziosantin7420

Easy. You start with an upstroke, all downward pickslanting on the G string, then on the D string a downstroke with upward pickslanting.
