WHY ATLANTA PROBABLY WILL NEVER GET ANOTHER NHL TEAM

In today's #short we'll take a look back to 2011, when the Thrashers final win came on April 7, where they beat the New York Rangers 4-0 at Madison Square Garden. Three days later, just over 16,000 fans came to see the Thrashers final home game, when they were defeated by the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2. On June 21, 2011 the team made the official move to Winnipeg, and planned to play at the MTS Centre (now known as the Canada Life Centre). With the city now having two NHL teams come and go, the potential future of the NHL returning to Atlanta at this point is pretty bleak. The Thrashers legacy does live on a few ways though, as of the 2020-2021 season there are just four active former Thrashers still playing, Zach Bogosian (BAH-GO-SHUN), Braydon Coburn, Evander Kane, and Blake Wheeler. Also, up until recently the banner for the one and only division title that the Trashers won was still hanging at their old home, Philips Arena (now known today as State Farm Arena). But it appears when State Farm took over the naming rights to the arena they may have moved the banner elsewhere, but I could be wrong on that so as always feel free to correct me in the comments.

Guess again, there's a new arena proposal with the idea and help from the Atlanta Gladiators' CEO to build a new, $2 billion arena district called "The Gathering at South Forsyth"

Hope it fails. Atlanta is simply not an NHL market, but an idiot like Gary Bettman would rather put a team back in Atlanta than a more deserving place like Quebec City who already have an arena and want an NHL team.

@sjdrifter72 Atlanta Fans still wants hockey. The real reason for the 2 downfalls are the management of the team from the Thrashers' owner, Atlanta Spirit LLC; they didn't care for the team. The cared more on the Hawks and Gary tried to keep the Thrashers and have the Coyotes move back to Winnipeg. For the then Atlanta Flames, it was the economy of the city going into a recession, but the Flames did make more playoff entrances than the Thrashers, but the record was 2-15 and the team player payed for the fans' tickets at least to keep the team alive. Another thing is the arenas; State Farm Arena, then called Phillips Arena, isn't an NHL made Arena, plus the Omni Center was dilapidated. If the Thrashers were sold off to another owner, then they would've stayed there, and the Jets as an Expansion team along Vegas and Seattle making 33 teams plus bring an Expansion to Quebec again plus newer locations being Salt Lake
