How so? How are they confuse? They know that they have African ancestry. But, they also know that they have European and Taino ancestry as well. Doesn't Dominican Republic have a right to protect it sovereignty? Look at the Bahamas with what they did with the Haitians. We are Dominicans. We identify with our nationality, not the way you look or your skin complexion. By the way, just because you see alot of black people in DR, abroad and on social media... Doesn't mean that all those people are actually Dominicans. There are millions of Haitians, Black Immigrants and descendants of Afro Americans that reside in DR and believe that they are really from Dominican Republic. We are not part of the Sub Saharan African race. We look phenotypically different from y'all. We are part of the Hispanic race. Don't confuse the Haitians, Black Immigrants and descendants of Afro Americans in DR with being actual Dominicans. And yes, I know that Spain brought Africans to DR. Spain brought Africans to every Latin countries in the Americas. But, for some reason y'all consider us to be black. And you know why? Because of the millions of Haitians, Black Immigrants and descendants of Afro Americans that reside in DR. Which by the way, are still going to DR. They outnumber the real black Dominicans in the Dominican Republic. Don't generalize a whole country population as looking like y'all. Y'all don't generalize other latin countries that have Afro Latinos, but y'all do with Dominican Republic. And I gave you the reason why y'all believe that.

I'm Jamaican and have been to Dominican Republic many years ago but on a European passport. I noticed that the people there were very biased and confused about who they are as a people. I noticed they hated the Haitians, and that was an eye opener for me. Then I saw a video about Iam Marwa being treated badly there. I also heard stories that they keep harassing black people who they perseved to be foreigners in the streets, even black Americans are not spared. My take on this is that it's better to boycott those countries and give them negative criticisms so that less peoples will go there. The peoples of DR are the most confused people in the world, who don't know who they really are 😮

I'm confused!! Here we are, the pot calling kettle black ⚫. Two educated Africans complaining about the Caribbean and their immigration system. Travelling within Africa is almost impossible due to the following reasons: 1 - Travelling to neighbouring African countries requires visas . 2 - The visa prices are ridiculously high. 3 - It's cheaper to fly from Africa to the west than within Africa, due high airline fares and visa cost. 4 - Wodemyma himself have been deported within Africa on several occasions. By no means, I'm saying that the Caribbean is perfect but we are trying. At least we have CARICOM, what does Africa have? You can't live in a glass house and throw stones. Fix your own problems first before coming out and condemning ours. I'n my life experience It's evident that the mothers look after their children's and not the other way around. Brother, as much as you want the Caribbean and Africa to be one, there are major differences to be mindful of and be addressed before people can successfully assimilate. Culturally, we are as different as the east is from the west. There are some similarities, but that is only a part of who we are. Africa is a tribal continent, and within each country, people are divided into tribes to which they are extremely loyal and of which they are very proud. Each tribe has their traditions, nuances, etc. that Caribbean people with their western influence may not ascribe to, and vice-versa. As much as we embrace and respect our African brothers and sisters, we have our own Caribbean culture that is influenced by many ethnicities, and which is what makes us who we are. It is not as simple as breaking down barriers and everyone becomes one. Over the past six months, 6 Afro American women and one black British woman who moved to The Gambia to retire in peace and quiet were murdered. All seven women were single and some were in the process of building their homes. Some had businesses where they employed local Gambians. Each case is separate, yet these women at some point had complained that people were trying to delete them. Some were poisoned, others died under mysterious circumstances, and the last one was murdered 2 weeks ago and her body dumped in a septic pit. There were also others that had passed on before under suspicious circumstances but when 7 died within six months, and these ladies were healthy and conducting their lives normally, that is serious and requires the government to thoroughly investigate each and every case. These mysterious deaths are not just happening in The Gambia alone to diasporan women, there have been reports coming out of Ghana, Kenya, and other African countries where diasporans moved to, purchased land, and tried to settle down, then they mysteriously die or are murdered. They have been robbed, scammed, accused of coming to Africa and taking away land from locals. Some women have been beaten, some r*p*d, and diasporans are seen as ATM machines. These are just some of the horrors facing Afro Americans, Caribbeans, and black British who do not have direct ties in the African countries of their choice. Many have packed up and have left Africa since. Those issues need to be addressed if you truly want our people to come to Africa, because I am sure that if those seven women had any suspicion that their lives would be cut short once they reach Africa, they would not have come. There are several people that I know who were considering Africa as a possible place to move to and who have now changed their minds. Very sad..

You really took time to embellish and twist this story to the point of mixing facts with fantasy, sprinkled with grains of outright fiction. First.. your r*pe mention is a lie! By the way.. in all of the 54 African countries you lumped into one barbarian murder basket, not a single one of them has any specific type of crime targeted at diasporans. Locals also experience those exact types of crimes.. from phone snatching to scams to armed robberies; as long as a perpetrator perceives you as "more well off". The Gambian case is not 7 women in 6 months. It is unfortunate but isolated, and is definately a police investigative issue for which the US embassy is very aware/ involved. Dragging Ghana, Kenya "and other countries" into the mix just to polish up the fantasy of an anti-diaspora crime wave in Africa is a dishonest attempt at stereotyping. I've experienced scams in top European cities including a university campus and never held the EU or Europeans responsible! I just knew where to avoid. So if any crime ever occurred against a diasporan in those other countries you lumped together with demeaning condescension, it is NOT because they are diasporans. Middle class and rich locals also experience similar crimes. People need to do good research before landing themselves in some places.

We’re looking for solutions not the same rhetoric that keeps getting repeated. At this point as long as black folk no matter what land mass you’re on , want to have respectful and productive interaction I’m all for it ✊🏿

I'm sad to read this comment it breaks my heart to feel such anger through our black community 💔. I'm from congo 🇨🇩 living in Toronto. We need to love each other and I don't know who sold my people, but I know this I will never never do such horrible things to my own community. Peace and love. I love Jamaica 🇯🇲

In Latin, “Dominicans” is rendered as Dominicanus, which is quite similar to domini canis, or “dog/hound of the Lord.

So happy to hear that Bishop Maponga had the opportunity to visit the Caribbean. Saddened by his experience but grateful for the insights through his experience. I have lived and traveled throughout the Caribbean for years and what he has shared is absolutely true. I'm excited to see more African leaders and Caribbean leaders build bridges across the Atlantic for this type of exchange.
