Anyone old enough to remember the Game Genie for the NES? Now that was a game changer.

@rcbuse This looks wild but I can't find too much information about what it specifically did.... It allows you to customize your game?! Tell me more
@rcbuse8 сағат бұрын
It was this thing you plugged in front of cartridges that patched memory as the NES read from the cart. There was a booklet full of 'codes' for each game that were really memory addresses and values. Let you set the default number of lives to like 255.

I'll just put this here. Velocity per step. (drag note up/down, shift for fine tune) Repeat per step. (drag note to the right/left, shift for fine tune) Probability per step.(modifier key, and drag note in %, shift for fine tune) Up to 128 steps. (simple arrow for pages) It's got everything else you would need in a standard polyrhythmic drum sequencer. These obvious additions would make me (and I'm guessing many others) super happy. It's so close, arg. 🙃

This would be really really great! Kind of the Metropolis module (or really any fully stacked step sequencer our there) Let's hope they add it all :)

1. I really like what you make out of it, but the stepthing really remains underwhelming to me. 2. It was unfortunate timing for Bitwig, handing out this type of limited device right after Cubase'14 epic implementation. 😅 This type of well-integrated step editor would be lovely-er to have, at least in my biased opinion (biased towards actually seeing stepsequences inside of the arrangement, timeline based, non-random visual feedback composing style.) 3. To be more fair, i shouldnt compare the stepdevice with a completely integrated new stepsequencer-system inside of the DAW. But when being more fair and comparing apples (devices) with apples (devices): Bitwigs stepsequencer in particular made me realize again how insanely well made some m4l devices (like sequencers which are superior to Bitwigs in some aspects, winning a device vs device comparison) are, and how much Bitwigs community would profit from a GUI editor for the Grid. I think a custom GUI builder for the grid would result in better stepsequencer-devices by the community in the long run.

Yeah Stepwise is pretty lame. It feels like a SEVERELY underdeveloped device idea that is no where near the level of sophistication one would expect from Bitwig. I'm not familiar with the new Cubase update but this 5.3 update is nowhere near as exciting as I'd have hoped. I'll also admit that the title of this video is misleading (GOTCHA 😉) and meant solely to satisfy the SEO gods but the point remains that even the lamest and underdeveloped of new devices CAN be used to make magic...
@sternenherz7 сағат бұрын
100% ! magic happens when being open to what we got, that's true. So the real gamechanger here is more on the internal mental-approach side, haha :D Also, as a mini-mini-youtuber myself, i know this struggle of deciding to praise the SEO gods vs. not praising them, it's a really tricky decision. I think it's okay to do, as new people deserve to stumble upon your stuff via KZbin algo. Our secret cult of worshipping the gods of creativity and authenticity remains intact, despite some seo-titles, haha!

@@sub-jec-tiv I've built quite a few sequencers in the Grid and having a dedicated step sequencer device with all of those modulatable parameters is pretty game changing to me!

@@ChromeArray Nice, I'm not saying it's not game changing, I'm saying his video is clickbait because he doesn't believe it himself. I'm tired of clickbait on YT, I'm out to continue enjoying Polarity.

When does Stepwise come to the stable release of Bitwig? I'm on Producer 5.2.7 currently. This looks super cool and useful for a ton of stuff and your video really made me want to try it. I already use stuff like Harmony Bloom so this is something I'd definitely use and enjoy.

fuckin' hell, what a video. you're brilliant. you showcase modulators i had no idea how to use, all on default bitwig instruments, (i own very few 3rd party plugins). absolutely love your videos
@Xstatic197512 сағат бұрын
To change this game even further Bitwig should add an option to use incoming midi notes 1-8 instead of dedicated notes, much easier for chord changes
8 сағат бұрын
Yeah that would be really cool! And have the lowest of the notes in a chord play on row 1, second lowest on row 2 kind of thing?
@jorisvdstraten7 сағат бұрын
This is possible using the midipolyphony plugin.
@Artek60416 сағат бұрын
No, it isn't. It's a perfect example of what's wrong with Bitwig. It should be a clip type instead, with variations, looping, different playback speeds & directions, actual velocity, probability and ratchets, learn button to be useful for melodic sequences, snapping to key & scale... As a device it's yet another distraction. How does one use it in a song? How does one sequence it, without building elaborate contraptions? Look at Reason, Studio One or Logic - they did it right.
@MrZhenyavda13 сағат бұрын
Yeah right, but they've kinda announced piano roll changes in the last patch notes. Considering how long they've been asked for it by their whole community I hope they're gonna change some mechanics in the daw itself instead of bringing new devices

@MrZhenyavda They've been promising stuff for years. I'll believe it when I see it.

@@Artek604 maybe, but now they've specifically told about that on their what's new page at their website. So it's more official now. I personally want them to add ARA support and tools for audio editing and recording. Had to switch to reaper for that, cause bitwig is just so bad with stacked vocals, it's unbelievable
@catvision77712 сағат бұрын
i make ambient music. A device like this is perfect for this. in order to escape the "building a song" manner, you know? Music is more than structured songs. To me, this looks awesome. What is bad for you ("how to make a song of it?") is good for musicians like me who don't want to make songs. Perspective.
@catvision77712 сағат бұрын
and for the clip-type thing you mention; you can just render it and use it as a sample.

If you wanna change note pitch with the LFO but get rid of this pitch drifting, you need use a S&H, this way each note will have just one pitch.

Using a monophoned note grid in combination with a midi channel filter and a humanize allows for a randomized drumpad cancellation behavior across a certain set of notes of the drum pattern. With retrigger set to never, you get the weird effect, of the busier the drum pattern, the more quieter the audio output. Have no clue, how to use that but weird usually is good.
