Hilariously, in Brazil, the number 24 is considered "gay". Why? It's an unusual story.
"Jogo do bicho ("animal game") is an illegal gambling game in Brazil, prohibited by federal law since 1946, but nevertheless very popular throughout the country. It is a lottery-type drawing, operated on a regional basis using the daily state lottery draw, by mobsters known as bicheiros or banqueiros ("bankers"). Despite its popularity, especially in Rio de Janeiro, it is illegal in 25 of the 26 states of Brazil plus the Federal District and those involved may be prosecuted. Paraíba is the only state where the game is legal and regulated by the state, even though federal law prohibits gambling. Unlike most state-operated lotteries, in Jogo do bicho any amount can be wagered."

As a Brazillian I must say that this is more like a cultural meme and very few men will really spend much time thinking about it. When I was 24 (now I am only 30) I never tried to hide my age nor anyone tried to joke about it with me. But if you are in a circle of friends that likes to taunt each other with jokes about this kind of stuff you could be poised to a rough year.

It's hard to generalize when it comes to Brazil, there are over 210 million people in the country and what is true for you and the people you know may not be true for people a street or two down from you. I think in more educated (richer) circles people don't care about 24, but in rural settings/poorer communities it's still very much a disliked number.

@Vanos R Weirdly enough if you Google "Brazilian footballers number 24" there are a number of articles describing how there's a movement in Brazilian football to change the perception of the number 24, with a number of players actively choosing the number to promote a better understanding of LGBTQ issues. One of the footballers mentioned, (I can't remember his name) changed his shirt/squad number from 9 to 24 while stating that it was a tribute to Kobe. There are a few good articles about this - worth reading IMHO. It would seem that Kobe is pretty popular in Brazil.

They appeared to be using this weird fixation on the number to change attitudes - by wearing it they were both pointing out how stupid this thing is AND addressing homophobia in Brazil...at least that's how I understand it. As a Brazilian, I can say this is a pretty accurate video. From what I know (from the time I was in school), today in Brazil 24 is considered gay because the pronounciation: Vinte e Quatro can be confused to "Vim de Quatro", if you translate it to english it would be something closer to "I came in all fours", take that to sexual context and it's roughly you in all fours taking it up your @ss (at least this is what people used to talk in school/high school here in São Paulo, it may vary in the rest of the country.

The number 13 isn't only perceived as unlucky in the USA - there are loads of countries where it's considered unlucky, and even in countries where it isn't considered unlucky, like China, (and much of SE and East Asia), they have their own unlucky number...4. I may be wrong, but I think 4 has connotations with death, (I think that the words "four" and "death" sound the same in Cantonese or Mandarin, and I think it's taken quite seriously...by more people.) Whereas in countries where 13 is considered unlucky it's only a minority of superstitious people who worry about it - though obviously planners and architects avoid using it...not because they're superstitious, but because others might be. You still see it a lot in the UK - one side of a street might have odd numbers, while the other has even numbers, so you'll see 7, 9, 11, 11a, 15, 17. It's kinda ridiculous, but a house #13 might be more difficult to sell.

As a Brazilian myself, I can say that the young people didn’t get to know the jogo do bicho, so our biggest reference to why 24 is a gay number is in the pronunciation, we say it like: vinte e quatro, which has a similar sound to: vim de quatro, and that could be translated as “I was on all fours” But compared to the past generation we treat this as much lighter joke, seems that they really thought 24 was gay number
