My farm is located on what was once a shallow sea bed in the Silurian Era. A mile or two inland from the current shore of Lake Michigan. Theres eventually limestone bed rock at the bottom, but in my part of the state of WI there is a thick layer of multiple horizons of soil above that with NO ROCKS. Beleive it or not ive brought most rocks there myself as weights for various tarps and fabrics, ive even needed to buy bricks! No rock piles from past rock picking efforts either! Further west into the county theres a lot more rocks but for some reason im in the sweet spot.

Rocks are heaved up to the upper surface every Winter here in Minnesota...deep frozen ground will do that every time ground unfreezes. MERRY CHRISTMAS to all.

That is a bit of a myth. While frost heaving is a thing that can break roads, Rocks moving through frost heaving happens so slowly, you would never notice. It took hundreds if not thousands of years for all those rocks that are present to move from depths to the surface. Removing them is essentially a permanent solution. You need not worry about seasonal frost heaving replacing all those rocks you removed. Neversink is in zone 5a.

This is not true..........rocks being brought up by the frost ! A friend of mine told me this story too ! He said thats why corner post are pulled from the ground. Hes wrong ! The braces jack the post out of the ground ! I chose an area in my field disced it at least 12 times. Each time I disced it if I heard a rock scrap the disc blades I stopped and dug it out. Thirty years later. Still......no rocks there ! There are so many rocks........it just seems they have babies.......and pop out of the ground. Not true ! Try for yourself. Pick an area..... clean " all " the rocks up.( bigger then your fist ) See what happens over the years. Make sure you mark the area !

Why broadfork and then walk over it? You're obviously insanely successful so I'm doubting, just wondering if there's reason for it.

You can walk on healthy balanced soil. No problem.

If you want to disturb the Microbial network of your soil, go ahead and waste energy broadforking.

Broad forking will have no negative affect on the life in the soil.
