@@Ikori1 Terraria had this exact problem of item count bloat, so their solution was to increase inventory size and make what are basically multiple echests. But unlike minecraft echests, there are multiple of them, and once you inventory is full items you pick up automatically go into this extra inventory space. The two items basically triple your inventory space. They're also not exactly hard to obtain, and not single use like echests are (i.e can't be mined without silk touch). A similar solution of echests and shulkers in Minecraft is arguably superior to this, but really hard to obtain, and a lot less convenient. You can add it to loot tables from structures, give leather workers a bundle trade, maybe even have pillagers occasionally drop one. Either way, we need a backpack. @Pixlriffs3 жыл бұрын
There are two cogent arguments here: that unstackable items are a pain, and that accessible long-term inventory management becomes more difficult as Minecraft introduces more essential tools. Bundles aren't meant to address either of these things, which is why they don't. But discussing what they *don't* do distracts from how practical they are for organisation in a Survival world. It's not about storage, it's about using inventory space more efficiently. At Minecraft Live, Ulraf explained they're looking at inventory as a series of separate problems, not one big problem - he mentioned hotbar management there, along with the issues of maximum capacity and sheer variety (the latter of which is what Bundles aim to help with). They know introducing more items is going to exacerbate player inventory management, but piling additional features into bundles would end up misleading the community into thinking this was the *only* feature Mojang plans to introduce to improve inventory management, at which point bundles look like a compromise, not a specialized feature. Inventory creep was already an issue in modded Minecraft, but you rarely see widely adopted player inventory expansion mods. Why? I suspect it's because additional inventory slots only delay the problem. Playing Stardew Valley, I buy both the backpack upgrades... and I still run out of space when I go mining. Sooner or later, the player has to take an active role in managing their own inventory; Bundles actively encourage players to do that.

I don't think that the issue that bundles deal with is the one that the Minecraft community really had a problem with though, sure they do make what inventory space we do have more efficient but what they don't do is address the major issues that impact gameplay. To me at least, the number of items is a minor annoyance that's dealt with quite quickly by just planning where to store things, whereas not having enough active inventory space for tools, building blocks, food, and the like actively makes playing the game harder with little to no way to manage it (at least early on).

@joshamm19953 жыл бұрын
@Eric Lee He's clearly just saying that while bundles don't address the issue some people want it to, it addresses its own unique issue. Allowing them to 'be their own thing' is simply meaning that niche is not always bad. It doesn't have to fix all problems to be a nice addition. Also, no reason why backpacks and bundles can't coexist. Backpacks may add another few inventory spaces that can be accessed while you're wearing it, but would be limited to only carrying one at a time. At any point, any number of inventory spaces will be too few for most people. Bundles are an optimization solution, where backpacks are a bit more of a blunt force solution. Too few spaces? Make more. That's all well and good to a point, but needs to be carefully limited.

@@Mizenga The only problem is, when you're working on something fairly large scale, you immediately get clogged up with space. Even if you're working on something small, you may require a lot of different items. Bundles can help a teeny bit in that scenario, but not much. Shulker boxes are great, but they are extremely late-game, and can be kind of annoying to interact with over and over again. Sure, bundles are great for exploring, but in any other scenario, they are extremely limited. By improving the amount of space they can hold or even making it so that they're easier to interact with, even medium-sized builds aren't as gated by the lack of inventory space. TL;DR: Shulker boxes currently are a gate to somewhat larger builds, and bundles should enable the player to make medium-sized builds easier.

The one thing that makes bundles annoying is how they aren't exactly intuitive with removing, putting in, and ultimately using the items inside of them. As it stands, bundles are at the moment, "junk bins". A place for items you want, but need compacting. I do like this idea and would be very useful for adventures. However, a well managed shulker box filled ender chest usually tackles this problem that typically I don't have a need for such an item. Now don't get me wrong, the current mechanic for bundles already has quite a few creative uses for a variety of things. But one thing I think can improve the bundle is to be able to directly use what is inside of it. For example, say you have a variety of food in a bundle (steaks, bread, cookies, etc.) right clicking the bundle should allow you to eat a random item inside the bundle instead of dropping everything inside. Another example, multiple tipped arrow types, right clicking you bow with the bundle in your offhand should shoot a random arrow at a time. Another is block placing, a mix of stone and cobble (or whatever) in a bundle should allow you to randomly place a mix of blocks for a build. This I believe would most definitely help bundles tackle the so called inventory problem, not just a means of storing random items but also a means of storing better and more compact items you have taken for your journey and being able to use them effectively.

@Abbey Geiger For some players, yes, the shulker box is completely an endgame item, for others it's not a big deal to take down the dragon and journey a large distance to get them. However, that's not quite the point. Shulker boxes are inevitably going to end up in a player's possesion. If bundles are to remain as they are right now as simply a multistack item storage (limited to 64 items mind you), it is unlikely that many players will continue to use bundles once they get shulker boxes as it's simply easier to use. What I propose is to make bundles more actively usable and allow the items inside to be used and interacted with more easily. As I said earlier, bundles already have many possible uses associated with them, however, if they did introduce an item that did similar to what I proposed, then that item, and not bundles, are most likely what players will use and consider having in their standard adventure kit.

Here's some ideas I have for inventory [Light] - Satchel. The satchel is a small pouch bag that would be suited to early explorers or those who prefer to run a light load. Since they are small they don't effect your speed. [Medium] - Ranger sack. The Ranger sack is built for more experienced players. It provides more inventory capacity than the satchel, and you can attach a torch to it to provide light around your person. It will slow you down a small bit. [Heavy] - Journeyman sack. The journeyman sack is the largest of all of them. It will slow you down more than the Ranger sack but provide the highest capacity. This balances it out because you have to consider if you want to risk abit of momentum in exploration and combat in exchange for a large inventory increase. Being the largest sack, you can attach both a torch and another object on the side of it, like say a pickaxe or shovel. - all these would be worn on your person. It'd have it's own personal slot among those of the armor and shield slots. The satchel would be on your hip in the aesthetic of your character. The other two would be backpack type things. They also would be made of common materials with not much usage. Leather, wool, rabbit pelts etc. The rabbit pelt would provide the smallest condition level for a sack, but be the most common, and pair nicely with the satchel. The wool would provide a higher level of condition, and the leather would be the strongest. Also zombie flesh could be used as well since it doesn't really do anything. And perhaps if you used zombie flesh it could provide you more protection against zombies(and their subtypes) as a passive effect. Also for survival and hardcore game modes, you could remove individual played inventory. So you'd only get extra inventory slots(other than the ones for armor and weapons/tools) if you used one of these things. This would increase the difficulty as some have wanted, but also make the game more immersive. Peaceful/Creative players of course would still have the regular inventory. Just some ideas.

@wesleyer93803 жыл бұрын
@@kombat_TTV storage becomes more and more of an issue as the list of items becomes more diverse. Yeah way back when I started you only needed a few chests to hold your wood and stone, but there was only stone and maybe 3 types of wood. Now we have four types of stone, and all the wood types have slabs and unique fences. There’s 20 different kinds of flowers. If you want to decorate or make a complex design in your build, the block types add up really really fast. Shulkers are great, but late game. If you don’t want to fight the boss, they aren’t an option at all. So you either carry what you can fit to work on your build, or take the time to transport everything to new chests where you’re building. That’s why something like bundles are so helpful. Yeah, that all's my issue with bundles as well. Particularly the inability to compress non-stackable items. They sounded great right up until the stack limit, at which point they just kind of become somewhat underwhelming. It's just another thing taking up space in the inventory, and makes it harder to access your stuff. It's not particularly useful for general use unless you hoard items, as the sort of items you'd want to put in a bundle as-is are the same sort of items you can farm tons of quite easily. Things like mob drops and flowers, which can clutter. The sort of thing a late-game player would just toss out of their inventory unless specifically trying to get it. That said, I *do* think it accomplishes what it sets out to accomplish. It helps you clean up your junk items, in the case you're out exploring and just happen to pick something up you want. Happen across a swamp and want some slime, vines, lily pads, and blue flowers? Cool, now the few you picked up can go into one or two slots instead of four. They don't completely solve the inventory crisis or help with builds, and they aren't easy to access in the slightest because they don't need to be. It's a niche item that solves one aspect of the inventory. I do wish it would hold more of these 'trash' items, something like three stacks would probably be sufficient, but as-is it gets the job done. Not spectacularly, but it does. If it could carry more than a stack, it'd suddenly be useful for early-game builders as well as collectors, and offer a solution to storing more items before you have access to the end at the very end of the late game. For it's clunkiness, that's fine. You aren't meant to store important items in it, just garbage you wouldn't want to use. If it could store more, the clunkiness wouldn't be a problem for most scenarios where you would want to store more than a stack of items, since you'd be safe when accessing such items.
@calvinjohnson62422 жыл бұрын
More compression is NOT the problem. If you need more compression, you use a shulker box. I can’t see a single reason why we would need another item that squeezes more than 64 items into one inventory slot. The shulker already does that. That is the whole point of a shulker. When he talked about what you wanted, he described exactly what a shulker does. Why not use a shulker? I recognize we’re talking about the early game here, but part of the point of the early game is that it’s harder. I don’t really see an “inventory problem.” However, with the increase in items, I will admit that collecting one of each type of flower, or 10 of each variation of wood and stone, can be frustrating. That is where the bundle comes in. It condenses all of that and balances the game back to what it was before we had that plethora of items. Bundles should actually fix a few of the specific examples he mentioned. Though our inventory may get clogged with unstackable items, he didn’t mention that it also gets clogged with stackable items. Instead of combining all the unstackable items into one spot, bundles combine all the small amounts of stackable items into one spot. When the stackable items are condensed, you have more room for the unstackable items. If you get that chest of enchanted books, iron ingots, and pumpkin seeds, you no longer need to throw the pumpkin seeds away. You stick them in a bundle with the iron. That’s the point. I think that’s where he kind of missed the mark with his analysis. He focused on what the bundles can’t do and didn’t talk about what they CAN do. But he is right that accessibility is absolutely the problem. You should be able to right click on a bundle and open up your inventory and the bundle menu as if you had just opened a chest. Incredibly easy fix. The way bundles are implemented right now is unusable. Not because of the concept, but because of the unnecessarily frustrating mechanics.

Nice vid, Sarc! I think the bundles were just trying to solve the "junk clogging" problem of the inventory. Why leave those pumpkin seeds behind when you can just throw them in a bundle along with the string, emeralds, and dirt? It makes room for unstackables by removing clutter items. Bundles are meant to tackle one side of the inventory problem, not just solve it outright.

So I am on the team bundle side and it’s good enough early game to have a thing that unclogs the inventory. But he does have a point about making the UI for it more robust. 1. Keep the ‘toss the bundle and toss everything’ that’s fantastic for hoppers and a sorting systems. 2. Enchantments for bundles: holding i/ii/iii Essentially gives non-stackable items the ability to stack to limited quantities up to 4/8 (non-enchanted) items with progressing levels of enchanting. Tier-3 enchant doubles stacking capability for stackable items. Alternatively, bundle variants for miscellaneous/tools and weapons/potions could be the way to go since enchantments on a bag could seem wasteful or unnecessary. *[Edited to accommodate ideas from this comment thread]*
@alexsere30613 жыл бұрын
I like the idea, but if you need an enchantment for the item to be useful I don't think it's efficient. Tridents need loyalty but they are not supposed to be cheap early game weapons. Bundles seem to be early game, hence requiring good enchantments changes their purpose.
@DarkFireF1173 жыл бұрын
@@alexsere3061 it was just a quick suggestion, but I feel like my idea has more to offer. Early game it is not as useful, but it keeps your inventory from getting clogged up with the few relative items in the early game. With enchantments toward the midgame, and access to a second dimension, there would be an increase in item management when players need it. Enchantments might not be the best thing, but even similar or specialized items with different capabilities could have an immense impact on inventory space. Bundles specialized toward tools would be invaluable to players if even 4 tools, identical or not, could fit in a single item space. How about potion bundles? Maybe not the most wieldy thing, but at least good for lasting potions to be pulled and used at player convenience. And it wouldn't be unreasonable to have specialized bundles as the smoker and blast furnace exist as specialized funaces in game already. In fact I'd love to see more specialization in items that have certain uses. Maybe have a wood cutter too, not just a stone cutter? I'm getting carried away, but still, there is always a solution. Even if it comes down to just tweaking implementation, the solutions are already there and they have been for a long time.

@@giuseppedefrancesco9768 it works but I feel like that's a bit uninspired. Having a bundle crafted with, say, an extra rabbit skin gives players the ability to stack non-stackables like tools or saddles, or with leather instead of rabbit hide to increase capacity. After that, combining the two bundles would grant a bundle with the qualities of both. While it may not be very resource effecient, similar to your suggestion, the resources used aren't hard to come by under normal circumstances and it gives both bundle ideas some sort of reasonable drawback while still being worth the cost of crafting.

You are right about bundles although I don't think conventional backpack mods (turning one slot into a chest) are the answer either. This is because backpacks in most applications just end up crowding the hot bar leading to less ready access space. They also necessitate a lot of moving items back and fourth between menus, which gets quite labourius. A better solution in my mind would be to add a tool belt. This would be an equable item that provides an adtional hotbar with only a few slots which you can switch back and forth from with a hot key. This being intended to free up the main hotbar to allow more items to be accessed menu free. Very useful for two of the major types of players. Builders (can have a wider verity of block easily to hand) and PVPers (can increase the complexity of their load out). Making it an equipable item also means those that like the current setup aren't burdened by it. You could also add a wearable backpack in the chestplate slot for those that really need the extra storage. Such as Adventures and nomads. It just being a direct extension of the inventory using the same menu balanced by not being able to wear a chestplate, which fits with the current trend of sacrificing armour for utility. Both of these things have been done in mods since 1.6.4 so the concept has been proven to be possible from a technical stand point.

@@Ninjamanhammer yeah I think having a bunch of extra inventory without a bundle is disgusting. In my reasoning I believe that there should be no extended inventory and bundles should have less space than shulker boxes as a shulker box is a box, a large object. A bag should have less space
@conormaccarthy2493 жыл бұрын
Yeah bundles are meant to be an early game thing to hold random small pieces before you have shulker boxes. A few emeralds, some haybales, melon seeds, 9 tnt, two gapples, they're all gonna fit with space to spare after your desert temple raid

Another issue is how expensive they are for “early game items”;
@krusty_kid54153 жыл бұрын
They're so cheap bruh u literally just need a crafting table and wooden sword ,then kill a few bunnies in the desert which is really common, then wait for night or look for a cave and kill like 1 spider
@@ericr.malice318 dandelion attract rabbits, so as long as you are lucky enough to find one, it's not that expensive Edit: poppy -> dandelion

Now, I know terraria has thousands of items, but even they knew that inventory slots were volatile. The slots in your inventory and chests have changed at least 4 times in that game

And being able to sell stuff basically as soon as you start the game. As well as being able to delete items in your inventory has made this problem non existent.

And then they nerfed it in 1.4 by removing the ability for Non-Vanity Accesories to not be eqquiped in the Vanity slot...

There is 5 thousand items in terraria and there is defender’s forge,safe,void bag and piggy bank to fit more items on your character

The only thing I would need for inventory right now is just a filter so that I don't pick up gunpowder, seeds, enderpearls and spidereyes.
