I have a 2017 Mazda 3 Grand Touring Sedan, and I have to say, it has been an absolutely phenomenal car. I have had zero issues whatsoever in nearly 30,000 miles, and I have loved every second I’ve spent in it (for those that don’t know, the 2017 and 2018 models are virtually identical). However, I will say that the other day I had it in for it’s typical 5,000 mile service, and they just happened to have a few 2019’s in so that the employees could be trained on everything about them, and the 2019’s are leaps and bounds above the 17 and 18’s. Everything about them, interior and exterior styling, technology, and material quality, was just two steps above my 2017. So while I can say that my car has been absolutely phenomenal and would 100% recommend it to anyone on the fence about purchasing one, I would also recommend that you first test drive a 2019, because from what I experienced they will absolutely be worth the extra few thousand dollars that you may end up spending on them. Again, though, I just felt I should share this with everyone and give an owner’s perspective on the matter.

I also have a 17' GT sedan that I bought used in late '18. I really wanted my old beamer to last me until the redesigned Mazda3 but unfortunately it couldn't make it :(. Still, I really like the 17 GT, minus the road noise. But on the plus side now, I can wait until they add the new SkyactiveX in 2020 and wait until 2021 to get one in case of any kinks.

Just test drove the 2018 Mazda 3 hatchback today and I absolutely fell in love with it. Super sporty handling, quick pickup, great suspension, lots of safety features, and super useful cargo space. It's also like 8-10k cheaper than the brand new 2019 model. The new ones look great, but I don't see a reason to spend that much more money for it. The 2018 model does its job, and does it well!

I recently got a clearance 2018 Mazda3 Touring hatchback with soul red paint. Its so beautiful 👍 Another reason to buy it was the automatic transmission is sooo smooth and quick shifting. I'm not too crazy about CVT from Honda or Toyota. Mazda G Vectoring really makes the Mazda3 fun to drive. At first I thought it was a gimmick, but it really 'sharpens' the drive around the curves and winding roads. ☺

If you compare both models like I did: Interior: The 3rd generation Mazda 3 has a very nice high quality cabin especially with leather upholstery but the 2019 model has an even nicer interior that can take the fight to premium brands like Audi or Mercedes. Also the instrument cluster is nicer in the new model with a more traditional layout and a center dial that's an electronic multi purpose one. Exterior: Both models are very attractive. I personally like the 3rd generation better especially the hatchback as I don't like the huge C pillar on the 4th generation hatchback. Tech: Both models in upper trims are fully loaded. The 4th generation has some nice updates like the aforementioned electronic multi purpose center dial. But also a heads up display in the window instead of being portrayed on a plastic pop-up screen like it does on the 3rd generation. The 4th generation also has: wireless charging for your phone, a 360 view camera, Front Cross Traffic Alert, Traffic Jam Assist. The 3rd generation has a touchscreen that can be used while standing still otherwise you have to use a center dial to control your tech. In the 4th generation you can only use the center dial. Practicality: The 3rd generation hatchback has a boot of 364 liters, the 4th generation only has 327 liters. For the sedan the numbers are 3rd generation: 419 liters 4th generation: 444 liters. The all round view in the 3rd generation hatchback is a lot better that the 4th generation hatchback because the 4th gen is hampered by the big C pillar. I don't like the piano black finish on the B ans C pillars what you get on the 4th gen Mazda 3. It is a fingerprint magnet and scratches easily. Other: I wonder why Mazda has downgraded the rear suspension on the 4th gen. The 3rd gen has independent suspension while the 4th gen has a torsion bar in the rear. The noice dampening in the 3rd generation (2017 and later) is decent, in the 4th generation it is better. The 4th generation will get the very interesting Skyactive-X engines later this year. Verdict: The 4th generation has some very nice things going for it. Especially the class leading interior and the updated tech. The 3rd generation is still very good in those departments and is only slightly lagging behind the 4th gen. The 3rd gen hatchback practicality is better. For me that in combination with a HUGE discount I got on a 3rd generation Grand Touring model was the deciding factor. So for the last few weeks I'm now the proud owner of a Mazda 3 GT-M 3rd gen hatchback :)

What a fine car for just $22K, it's a steal! However, even though the 2018 has the same engine as the 2019, I've read that it's better to purchase the latest model because of technology enhancements & better resale value. You should totally grab a 2018 over a 2019 right now, these things have pretty nice instant cash offers and other discounts going on. I was just able to snag one of the last 2018s to come from the Mexico plant , fully loaded with the optional equipment package for $22,990 (out the door price). I checked out the 2019s and preferred the look and interior of the 2018.

I bought the 2018 Mazda 3 Touring last summer, it's missing some of the higher end stuff, but I got the upgraded package with Bose and sunroof. I thought I would have deep regret once the 2019 models were released, but this is such a good car that I honestly don't feel any regret. I am considering having the Apple Car Play and Android Auto, but honestly my Bluetooth works so well for what I use it for that I am not sure it's even worth the money. I bought a 2018 Touring with the Premium package with the pearl white and 22 miles on it for $17.8K out the door. Yes the GT was tempting with mainly the LED headlights and I test drove a 2019...it was awesome. Ultimately it came down to what I could realistically afford. I basically got all the best of the GT without the LED headlights and the additional safety and comfort features like lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control. I was ok with that and love that I have a manageable car payment of around $300 a month after I put my trade in towards the final price. EDIT: I wan the 2019 black rims on my white car somehow...going to have to figure that out.

I almost bought a Mazda 3 Hatchback in 2017, but instead fell for the torque and right-on ride of the 2017 Honda Civic EX Hatchback. It was torture to get in or out, but the car itself was more damn fun to drive than any other I’ve ever handled...and I’ve been behind the wheel of many great rides. I totaled my little speeder before it was a year old. Mourning my little blue bullet, I didn’t have the heart to look for love and settled for the car I didn’t buy a year before. A 2018 Mazda 3 Grand Touring Hatchback. Got a great price, but felt no real sense of passion on the drive home. Luckily, I discovered Mazda’s BRILLIANT and INTUITIVE APP and downloaded it to my iPhone. I read all the details then took it out for a breathtaking ride. It is A BRILLIANT AUTOMOBILE and I named it CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT. Mazda got it right. This is a real ‘Driver’s Car.’ If you like to drive, you will really love a Mazda.

I have pretty much this same model. I bought it new in 2018 and I love it. Sometimes I wonder if I should have held out another year or two for a 2019 or 2020. When I bought it, it didn't have integrated android auto/ apple carplay yet. I was going to get the $400 upgrade when I came out, but I drove a rental with Android Auto and decided that it wasn't worth the upgrade price. My main complaint was that it relied on a direct connection instead of Bluetooth, and that whenever the connection jiggled in the slightest, Android Auto would cut out (I'm an Android user, not iPhone, and I won't be switching just because of a car interface).

I have a Mazda 3 Hatchback (Sense Edition) from 2014. Got it cheaper because it was a 2yo car from a Mazda director. Didn't have that much km's on it and got the gps on it for free. I'm not liking the design of the new models, so I'm glad I have mine. Benefit I also have is that my entertainment system is still hackable. At the moment I have the warning displaying reduced in the lowest seconds possible and disabled the "safety" that prevents you to use the touch screen while driving. Only remark I would have is that the "screen protection" starterd cracking/scratching for no apparant reason. Next maintenance I'm going to ask them to replace that (if possible). And over here the car taxes on diesel cars are expensive. And I have a 2.(2) diesel. But yeah, love my 2014 Mazda.

Almost 11 months ago after spending many months test driving and comparing all the cars on the market including SUV’s with budget of around. 40K in Australian dollars (AUD is approx $30% below the USA dollar) we settled on a 2018 mazda 3 Astina Colour black with black alloy wheel rims, although the metallic darker grey along with the dark wheels rims featured in your enthusiastic review was an extremely close second, the final decision was partly the wait time on delivery from the next shipment . The 2018 Mazda 3 Astina in Australia is a step above the local GT, mainly qualifying by extensions and enhancements to a few safety and automated features including the automated breaking systems and safety sensory systems, Likes The cars ability to recognise changes in speed signs transmitting the change instantly to the head up display,is a much loved feature , effectively local fixed and hand held speed sign changes which can’t be known by satellite mapping navigation systems or unnoticed by the driver, I.e good if you miss a temporary reduction in local speed limits, especially where a nice man with a revenue radar unit collecting nearby. Another feature we like is the preset keys we have 2 which are great so if you have a 5 foot driver and 6’ One, yes the seats individual preferences and the height of the head up displays are automatically repositioned for the individual driver before you are seated. Selection of this Car. Although the majority of features are available on most of competitors cars and all were available at much higher prices in larger cars, at around 30K with registration the road with all mats warranty enhancements negotiated we went for the auto transmission on discovery that is wasn’t a DSG and after a bit of research found that the autos reliability was ? % improved over Mazda’s older models (always only time will tell but at least the internet is not littered with DSG problems and class actions experienced by say eg Some Ford models in Oz. Criteria Although I was aware of the likelihood of this car being turbocharged in the coming year prior to the introduction of the newest technology petroleum compression based engine late 2019,I’m a little gun shy of version 1 in any new technologies. As for the turbo no doubt it will fly 😁 and if I was still in my 30s love just like a 4 litre turbocharged cylinder ford car I owned until 5 years ago,the power plants engineering would be probably bullet proof also but unlike the 4 litre engineering there a good chance of reasonable fuel consumption. So what was the actual function of this car. This car was in part replacement for a 5 year old (Vw product)Skoda twin charged RS hatch with 7 speed DSG that was the last of the 6 second (0-100 k/ hour , 0-60 Mph) light weight pocket rocket rockets, although we loved the previous car especially its ability to consume very small amount fuel, whilst zipping through traffic and shaming all but the most exotic sports cars around the city it’s lack of back room for the now grown 6 foot teens had just adequate boot(trunk)space, unlike its VW counterparts which didn’t have enough boot space for a snowy mountain winter dashed weekend trip. So part of the criteria was to replace this car in the 4 driver family fleet with a similar car, I.e a still zippy low fuel consuming hatch with a more flexible boot space, adequate leg room to take protesting teens and larger adults on the occasional rear seated trip and the improvement in automated driver safety systems and information was an additional bonus. The selection don’t go there negatives. We were somewhat keen on avoiding in a compact car (or any)were DSGs with our preference leaning toward a stick shift transmission, the Skoda’s Dual clutch Gear box was fixed 9 times during its life and keeping it as a hand me down wasn’t an option with easily up to $7K+ to repair the dual clutches the mega tonics unit etc not a burden I wished to place on my teen post warranty. let’s face the facts guys, Re:our turbocharged+supercharged VW it was great to drive but crap for reliability especially major drive chain, Maybe you guys back in Germany should note my 2008 2 litre Nissan Dualis ( QashQai) has 400,000 km all original ,Toyota Land Cruiser had 500,000 km in 2009 when I sold it and the guy that bought it from me is still driving on original drive chain with only a clutch replacements 😳and he Tows his boat on it. So get with the program and shake off we’ll make money when it breaks attitudes of the past millennia, Other wise you will probably also facing the same decline of the American car manufacturing local and global products that despite their historic lead sprung from the slow adaptation of technology & customer needs as prices rose for the unit and the energy, maybe like many voted out governments with political agendas linked with big business at the expense of the consumers the next car giants might be less 10 brands of European global but principally from Korea and even from from China once they trade on quality and not price. Owing the car, we have had few problems with the exception of extreme hot cold whether where an obvious circuit fault temporarily disabled some systems then after a few minutes is ok, apart from this now approaching 30 000 km were relatively happy, whilst not as zippy,no breakdowns 👍and so far it doesn’t look like I’ll have a page and a half of to do warranty repairs that now fortunately in future would be approaching strengthened lemon laws in that will send it back, my past list and the consequent time wasted pleading with the manufacturers pr and guys for basic considerations would amaze and frighten anyone considering buying a Vw product in OZ, hopefully the brand has much better representation in other countries. That said ,now in my 60th year unfortunately it’s not my first round, having a lifetime of dealing with a dozen different brands of warranty boffins and their masters wishing to diminish the warranty costs at your expense , the most responsive have in past experiences been from Mazda Australia, sadly for the others has been by a large margin, so yes comparatively they (Mazda)can only go down from here hopefully not until this car is a distant happy memory, I may buy buy Mazda SUV as a replacement for the Nissan in the near future and no doubt it will be a long but fun process again. Can anyone elaborate on the suspension change in the 2019 model ? ,the electronic stability and ride changes in this model to me feel magic on twisting Aussie roads, it would be a shame if some bean counter has diminished this in any way.

2016 Mazda3 hatch owner here. They absolutely nailed the styling of the hatch on this generation. When you look at other hatches out there(corolla, civic, impreza, elantra gt) they just look awkward or sedans trying to be hatches. The lines are so perfect on this. I just saw the 2019 Mazda3 hatch in person at the Cleveland Auto Show, and it took a step back in styling. The front grill is too big and the C pillar is too rounded off. It needs a spoiler to finish it off. On a side note, the new CX-30 that was just revealed is a much nicer looking vehicle that could be a good Mazda3 replacement. Mine only has 25,000 miles on it so I'll probably keep it a lot longer.

Tyrone square Mazda nice people got the sedan gt really should have gotten the hatch however and as far as the computer aspects of the car being a little outdated I perhaps maybe should have waited for the 2019 but such is life
