I had a 2005 Mazda 3 hatchback until I upgraded to a 2014 Mazda 6 that I purchased in March 2013 (why car mfrs do this is beyond me). I put 180k miles on the 3 in that time with zero forced maintenance other than replacing the A/C compressor. Nine years later, I'm still driving the 6. Counting the RX-7 I bought in 1979, I have just about 500k miles on the three Mazdas with pretty much no unplanned maintenance issues other than the compressor. Totally reliable cars.

Great car indeed. Quite smooth and relaxed ride. Since i don’t consider turbos are very reliable in long term, i’m buying the 2020 touring GT (the top model in Australia is Atenza). Although touring doesn’t have 360 camera, heated and ventilated seats, the alloys are 17 which provide smoother ride and the engine is none turbo that is more reliable in my opinion. I just have 1 issue, the head lights are Halogen. Do you about how much does it cost to make the headlights LED?

I bought a 2020 AWD Mazda 3 new! I did a serious test drive and looked at the 2020 Toyota Corolla. Comparing the two, the Toyota Corolla felt cheap and had a tin can feeling to it. Also, the interior of the Mazda 3 was way superior in every way!! And yes, as far as for long-term use we own a 2012 Mazda 3 sedan with Skyactive and have not had any issues with it.

I was so underwhelmed my wife and I started shopping for an F150 for her (I have a very beat to Tacoma and wanted to get back into a small car.... She likes trucks). After a few F150's which we liked I drove the 2018 Mazda3 GT hatchback manual and was blown away compared to the Toyota. Bought it and really like it. The difference in mileage is because of the cvt....and the slightly lower mileage is a very acceptable sacrifice for the far superior driving experience that the torque converter provides.....Mazda's skyactiv engine is far technologically advanced and more efficient than that of the corolla and that helped to narrow the gap alot...If Mazda's engines were on the same level as that of the corolla...the gap could have been Alot wider ...that's why all the automakers are using cvts nowadays....but mazda managed to use torque converter and still achieve nearly the same fuel efficiency and this is engineering at its best !

But let's be honest handling isn't something that only premium carmakers can give you. I live in Germany and get to drive all the manual transmissions the carmakers put in their cars. The best ones for me are the 6speed Toyota, 6-speed Fords, 6-speed VW and 6-speed Mazdas on number one. Mercedes makes horrible feeling manuals way to wobbly and emotionless tho relatively easy to shift. BMWs are super hard to shift which I don't like, not notchy in any way but especially when you shift to reverse it feels like there are 2 tons trying to pull the stick back to neutral.

Updates on the GR Corolla: it does have the engine from the GR Yaris, but it was upgraded to 300 hp, it has 6 speed manual only, and it's all wheel drive. As standard it has a limited slip differential for front wheels, but as part of the optional performance pack, it can also have it in the rear. It even has a manual handbrake.

I have the six speed manual 2019 Mazda 3 Premium model. It feels like a sports car and has looks to match. When I brought it in for a minor recall, I got to drive the automatic as a loaner. With the auto, gone was the feeling of power; gone was the acceleration: gone was the fantastic gas milage (I get 40 plus mpg in the mixed driving where I live in Apison Tennessee and the auto got in the low 30 mpg range), and gone was the look of a sporty, sleek car. Here in Tennessee, no one seemed to want the manual so I got a great deal on it. The Mazda 3 has about the easiest oil change on any car I've ever had. The oil filter and the drain plug are about 4 inches from each other and It takes one bolt on the plastic under guard to gain access. I change the oil every 7 to 8 thousand instead of the recommended 10. The factory recommended synthetic oil kit with the Mazda oil filter and new crush washer costs me under 50 bucks delivered. The car is a blast and the premium stereo with subwoofer , moon roof and fantastic seats make this a fine choice. It handles the country road as well as my 1965 Daytona Cobra replica and it's a joy to sit in it.

From mechanical standpoint there is nothing wrong, everything is working fine, engine doesn't take any oil to this day (gasoline 1.6). Manual trans is very good, precise steering and handling on the road. Only paint is weak and metal parts/body panels must be protected from rusting, but nowdays this is common in most car manufactures. Overall I'm content with this generation of Mazda. @Scotty Kilmer Have you had to work on any Mazda 3s that have issues with their Transmission Control Modules? Turns out they sandwich them between the battery box and the top of the transmission which causes overheating and solder points to get messed up. I had this issue with my 2011 Mazda 3. Mazda wanted $1,200 for a new part with a one year wait and exhorbatant labor costs. I found a website that goes in and resolders the connection on your TCM and sends it back to you for $300. I was skeptical, but didn't have much to lose so I went through with it. I got my TCM back in 5 days and now the vehicle runs flawlessly. Don't want to advertise their services on your page, but 10/10 recommend.
