@HearMeLearn

@@jr2904 right, everyone says pirate as if that does nothing, enough people pirate and no one would be able to make any shows or movies. of course it'll never happen where too many people pirate but it's still not a viable thing to say to people. some people like the convenience of having everything in one or two places. Now every company who owns a single IP is trying to turn their company into a streaming service and charge 10 bucks a month. You get like 4 of these services and you got yourself a second internet bill, one for access, the other for the entertainment

@Keretizein x That's because Spotify has almost every single song in their library. Streaming video online is going from 1-2 streaming services to watch everything you want to getting 4 or 5 services if you want to watch everything. If you had to pay $9 a month for just one group of song creators, there would be more piracy.

How many ways to monetize need to be added before it's time costly in your opinion? Me, anything more than a few percent of the vid's total duration, or anything more than 1 add for a 10 minute vid, is going too far, I'll go elsewhere. /shrug I'd say sorry, but I in no way insulted you, nor have I made any err in logic, I just value my time and money (subs cost money). Another thing is with senior citizens that have ACP, which lowers their cable bill by $30. The cable company takes the FULL amount out of your card, then issues you a "statement" for the 30 dollars credit. The next month the same thing, and so on. Then comes the excuses. We raise your monthly fee by 30 dollars because you are using our unlimited modem, which they NEVER told you about. (modems don't have a built-in cap). You get your own modem and there is an uninstallation fee of 30 dollars, and they PUT a data Cap on your modem. But they still continue to overcharge you, hoping you won't notice it. When you catch them they never give you back your money they overcharge.

I remember looking through the profits of a cable company I worked for. I was surprisingly disgusted in how much money they actually made, and that they could have easily swallowed the costs. They attributed only 20% of total profits toward maintaining the people, the internet service, and other costs including networks. The rest was offered up as bonuses and dividends. Cable internet had such a small overhead cost for maintenance, I wondered why they weren't upgrading people, when the technology was already in place to get those faster speeds they were offering in other districts. Turns out, they didn't want to make modifications, like additional amplifiers or replacement of them, until comcast bought them out, turns out comcast did not do that, didn't stop them from meshing their networks together before that point. I was tired of Comcast employees redirecting people over to not their phone networks. It was a mess I tell you, and I know they had a huge profit margin at that point.

I do have a cable connection for about 20 years now - and yes, I do pay about twice as anyone else with - but hey, I get what I want - and, more important: I get what I pay for so - sure, 75 bucks may sound pretty much for just get some cable - but this also already includes the base fee (yes, depend on where in the city you life you have to pay some amount between 11,00 and 13,99), 264/26,4 internet, about 150+ tv channels in at least 720p30 (some are even 1080i60), phone service, fixed ip, top-model modem - and an uptime closing in over 99% a year ... if not already even better - so, why should I use any other service if I get all I want and pay for just over one single coax ending in a single master-device?

They do.... Otherwise how would they pay for it? Cable companies don't just make money by existing, you pay for service, they pay their providers for your ability to use that service, it's really simple. Also, love how they FAILED to mention that with the 45-50 dollar amount streaming service, you need to also pay for a 45-50 dollar a month internet plan in order to use that streaming service, which brings it up to 100 bucks a month.

The bigger problem is that the TV content creators are used to large incomes in the billions and are fighting to keep it that way. It used to be really expensive to make video content and before streaming was a thing traditional TV and movies were the only way to get new video content. When you think about it, a few stationary cameras and couple of sets that don't change a lot for a show that doesn't have a lot of special effects (like a sitcom) really isn't that hard to put together anymore compared to what it used to be and if you and your friends are talented and driven enough you could film your own sitcom and put it up on KZbin for a fraction of the cost the big TV networks do it. The big networks have locked themselves into an outdated business model. They are therefore trying to make things artificially harder than they need to be just to either slow things down to where they can change and stay on top or by trying to stop change outright like with ridiculous data caps that are not technically needed or by slowing down network upgrades (or not delivering to rural areas altogether). Having worked for a cable company in the past, I've seen their perspective from the inside and while TV content creators ARE to blame for high prices, they also own 50% of the blame. The cable companies lobby local governments (the ones nobody pays attention to with the latest national crisis and/or drama going on) for exclusive rights to run cable in an area and they also do NOT compete with each other. They have divided up the country among themselves and agreed to not run cable in each others territory so you'll never see Charter/Spectrum running cable in Comcast's turf.

Here in Germany there are two bundles: the open bundle (ARD, ZDF and a couple of other channels) and the closed bundle (private channels like RTL). All the channels are provided OTA via DVB-T and DVB-S. As a German resident you have to pay for the open bundle (17,5€/month even if you don't even use it) and if you want to you can also buy the closed bundle (roughly half of that but I don't exactly know). The closed bundle has a lot (a really huge lot) of ads though. If you want to get flawless reception you can also go with the cable TV option but that'll cost you extra.
@Techlore1
@Techlore1 4 жыл бұрын
Ex cable tech talking here: this video is about 80% correct. The bundle problem is completely true. OTA channels are worse. Our local NBC charges companies $2 per subscriber. That means out of an average $60 package $2 is goes to that single OTA because people demand they have it included. So with that $60 tv package, profit of that part is only about $0.50 if any. Yes most of a cable company's margin in tv comes from 2 places, box/DVR rental and VOD rental. Other point of inaccuracies is that the technology is available without a box. That is a half truth, as 1way communication is possible through quam with consumer cable card tech, but not 2 way for various technical reasons. Which is why providers are starting to move to streaming.

Got rid of foxtel last year because mum couldn't afford it (that and foxtel are a bit dodgy), they got her to upgrade instead, but the box was DOA, I had a look at it and I couldn't see how it wasn't DOA. They were going to charge her to fix it until they realized it was a dud, and then they overcharge her when she only wanted basic service. Netflix works so much better, I just dislike how many streaming services are sprouting up, however I don't watch alot of tv anyway. I'm shocked when I come across people who still have Foxtel.

Whoever says "you get what you pay for" obviously isn't subscribed to cable TV. You pay a lot but get almost nothing in return. I just signed up with a one month trial to my cable company's live TV streaming service (basically cable TV but you use an app instead of a converter box) and I immediately remembered why I dumped cable years ago. Every channel has more commercials than content, syndicated shows are sped up or have scenes shortened (to cram more commercials in) and movies have the curse words muted or dubbed out (though that's been an issue with live TV since forever). It just blows my mind that there are still people out there paying close to three figures a month just to watch ads and shows/movies that are edited. Cable TV is a scam.
