@sheldonmurphy6031Ай бұрын
That's because a lot of people know that is getting beyond stupid. A lot of these rules came after Joseph died. Hell Joseph smoked cigars on his journeys AFTER he banned them. lol .. He got into trouble with his wife, and I believe he made tobacco forbidden to appease his wife. BUT I will say this. What's the worst that can happen from quitting smoking and coffee? It's not a bad rule, just a bit silly.

The Word of Wisdom came from Emma Smith, Joseph's wife. In her mind, these were disgusting and expensive habits at the time. Whom cleaned up after Church meetings? Emma. She got tired of the tobacco spit and ashes from pipes and cigars. And coffee and tea? That stuff had to be carted in and the men swilled it down like pigs at the trough. It was extremely expensive. Here's another good one. When did the Word of Wisdom become a part of Temple recommend? The 1950s.

Go for a casual walk and you caked this stuff on your footware. If you haven't taken a tour of Nauvoo, you should.

@larryfrakous13322 жыл бұрын
@@LonelyDistance maybe so, but this isn’t quite the reason. The reason is that the revelation in Doctrine and Covenants 89 counsel’s against the use of hot drinks. Prophets from the time of the revelation and on have explained that this means Coffee and Tea (using tea leaves). A majority of saints attribute this restriction to the drink’s caffeine content, but caffeine is not technically restricted. Many saints drink caffeinated soda, but all would agree it can be misused.

@@LonelyDistance yes, and neither does caffeinated soda. There’s honestly a lot going on with the Word of Wisdom. We ought not reject his will or break our oath once we have made it OR we will find we lose those blessings Heavenly Father offered us. We agree to abstain from certain items and our Father promises of health and spiritual well being in return. Do you want to trust almighty God to get through the day or hot water dragged through ground beans to support you all day/every day? Why hot drinks specifically are on the list has had many explanations but no divine revelatory answer that I am aware of. But I think I will trust him on it. Actually tea can have loads of health benifits when consumed in moderation. It's known to reduce stress as well as decrease your chances of heart disease. Plus hot tea and can be an excellent remedy if you have a cold or flu. It helps open up the airways making it easier to breath and get all that gunk out of your lungs. Plus you cant overdose on tea as easily as you can with cold medicine. I think what people forget I'd the health benifits of tea comes with moderation as well as common sense. If you're a healthy adult, one or two cups a day isn't gonna do any harm.

Devout “Mormon” here. Great video but the take on coffee being explicitly and doctrinally about caffeine is incorrect. The ONLY reason that members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints don’t drink coffee is because a prophet of God (Joseph Smith) received revelation (Word of Wisdom) from God telling His members not to drink it for good reasons and to take it on faith. Anything else is merely speculation.

I agree. Turns out it wasn't caffeine. Most of us thought that was the issue, but no. Joseph Smith only suggested that the word of wisdom be followed. It became a hard and fast social delineator after JS was killed.
