I never understood those weirdos that only drink one drink and then stop. Being sober was an awful feeling, and the further away from it, the better. I just passed my 4000th sober day.

@@whiteyfisk9769 Same with me. Back when I was drinking if you gave me half a bottle of whiskey and there was no way of getting any more that night, I wouldn't even start. I knew if I drank it I'd be WAY more unsatisfied than just being outright sober. As far as I was concerned that half bottle of whiskey was no whiskey at all.

6 months, 1 week sober. It’s really not so bad. As a single guy it’s lonely, but when I go to my local bar for a burger and a coke once in a while, nobody asks where I was or where I’d been. They hadn’t even noticed I stopped coming. They were never my friends.

Most don't understand the severity of binge alcoholism. For years I have drank myself to oblivion with each session lasting upwards of 12-24 hours. I go into work and no one can see the crippling hangsiety I feel or the regret from all the stupid decisions made whilst intoxicated. It's easy for me to not drink but almost impossible to just have one. 99% of the times I've had one, I later came home the next day when the sun's up. Many times ive had near death experiences, walking the streets drunk and getting a knife pulled at me, or hit over the head by a junkie with a metal pipe just last weekend. Only now have I realized that I'll never be able to drink socially. Sometimes you just have to submit to something and acknowledge that it has power of you. Wish me luck

Right there with you. Not drinking isn't the problem, it's when I do drink, I keep drinking until I black out. The days after, just crippling anxiety. Then when the anxiety subsides, I do it all over again, like an idiot.

I tried that, many times, I always felt worse than I did before the one drink after drinking one. It made my nerves go nuts knowing I was only drinking one drink, so it always wound up being about 12 drinks. One drink would just piss me off. I always envied the people who could just stop at one or two.

I was a pioneer in controlled drinking for many years. Until the day it finally sunk in, I can not drink without consequences. At 15 years sober today, a large part of that is because I’m simply NOT willing to pay those consequences anymore. And if the day ever comes when I am willing, most likely I would drink. But today, is not that day. And that’s what it’s all about. Making it to 12:00 midnight, and starting over again on a new day. Best wishes in your recovery.

Very helpful video, Robin! Drinking alcohol in any amount carries a health risk. While the risk is low for moderate intake, the risk goes up as the amount you drink goes up. Moderation is fine for some people, but for those with addictional personality, can spiral into problem use over time. Take Care everyone!👋❤

I have never been able to have just one drink. I have blacked out drinking since 13. For so long I denied I was an alcoholic. I’m now 38. Now I just fight to stay away from it. It socially acceptable for people to drink and most of who I know and love can have such a great time drinking. I remember being 21 and my immediate family would not allow me to drink with them or be around me if I was. I have recently decided I don’t want to ever drink again but it is very hard. I have had a few times I worked a program went to rehab the whole nine but that little beast in me wants to surface. I understand.

Alcohol addiction is truly a nasty disease. The cravings will diminish significantly over time, but may never completely go away. Alcoholic can't have one drink because it doesn't work the same any more. One drink you almost don't feel any effects when previously you got quite buzzed and happy. Now you need 3 or 4 drinks for that feeling, but after 4 you are on the brink of loosing control.

The thought of buying a bottle of vodka and just having one or 2 drinks baffles me. I have to hammer that bottle till its gone. I don't drink every day any more unless i'm triggered. The biggest trigger for me is when someone or something really pisses me off then its "get me a fucking drink". Before i know i wake up to 4 empty cans and an empty bottle of vodka. Then fast forward to your 'hair of the dog' video and that cycle kicks in.

This resonates with me. I've realised that controlled or moderate drinking just can't be done by me, sadly. I envy my friends and family who can. I only drink at weekends. And I can go weeks and months without a drink. And I have done before. Dry Jan, odd weeks saving money, did 6 months sober just to get fit etc. But more often than not going out for what for everyone else is 3-5 pints and a chilled out afternoon would for me be 12+ hours of drinking til I blackout and eventually fall asleep. Spending a fortune. And waking up feeling awful for days afterwards. And listening to anxiety inducing stories about inappropriate stuff I'd said or done.

I go to bed late, pass out, wake up 3 hours later, fidget for 3 hours, finely fall asleep for an hour, wake up feeling awful, sweaty, full and panic anxiety and total shame. That's just with 10 drinks over 5 hours. Why is that even appealing?

I'm really lucky that my drinking never got too bad, and very fortunate I was able to identify the trajectory of the path I was on early I've been dealing with cravings for the last couple of weeks, which seem to have appeared from nowhere. I'm pretty sure it has everything to do with my isolation however, but that is difficult to admit because I don't feel capable of changing that feature of my personality Of course, my brain is trying to convince me that the alcohol would help. We all know, at least temporarily, that it would numb the bad feelings. But it is a 100% guarantee that I would feel significantly worse and less able to cope afterwards. It still doesn't make it easy to keep the cravings away though, during times when I feel low Your video was tremendously helpful. Thank you :)

having goals and a routine helps a lot. I used to not be able to to have just one drink because I was not happy with my life and it was the best way to forget it. As soon as my wife left me (not because of alcool) and I started losing weight, exercise, focusing on my business and passion, I then was able to not (always) get smashed. Now the first thing in my mind is that the day after drinks I need to get my job and objetives done and it helps a lot. Even my boss offered me a line of coke after a few drinks weeks ago and I was able to say no even if I had a few beers before, I started drinking water and watched people get smashed until I was able to go sleep :) I still love drinking, but I have other priorities and when I drink it's always special moments and not weekly, most days I don't have drinks, I don't buy alcool, I don't go out. My priority is getting my business to the next level and making decent money, then after, I will get smashed 🤣

Yeah, once I realized how much easier it was to simply not buy any alcohol in the first place rather than to try and drink in moderation, I realized that kicking the dependency wasn't too incredibly hard. I used to have 12 - 15 legal drinks a night too, but I spontaneously decided to stop buying it 5 days ago and honestly haven't really gotten to crazy of an urge. When I did get some cravings, I just drank a soda instead. As unhealthy as those are, I'll probably use it as a placebo affect because I drink from the same frost glass I always did and the drink is carbonated like my ciders and beers. Though, I don't want to get into drinking soda, but usually one a day at most is all I need to quell the urge. After these initial 2 weeks I imagine the cravings will die down and then I can stop drinking soda, which I don't really like all that much anyway.

If you’re in advanced alcoholic then you do have a physical need and you should see a physician if you’re trying to quit can be very dangerous but psychologically why do you choose to drink and drink but what’s the thing about the number is one different than two? If you have a problem drinking then now you can’t have just one that’s the reality. Instead, ask yourself why is it so important that you have just one go about your business without a drink?

Tomorrow morning the hangover will destroy me (no alcohol from 134 days) and tomorrow afternoon I will be destroyed by terrible guilt feelings. The day after I will be OK, no drink. But after three or four days, my brain will ask for alcohol again and will say: you have controlled it for 134 days and the last time you drank was four days ago. So you can control. So you can drink. So I wiil drink a bottle of wine, the same and the same in the next days. Again in the hell.
