Good content and flow today. The 1988 situation was wild - I remember it well. Even the Louisville media covered it, talking to baseball fans at the minor league games here. $200 million seems quaint now - I heard the total Trop repairs may end up in that range. Crazy.

Sell the team!!!

I wished Jerry sold the team last year tbh. But honestly, he might be dead by 2030. So the team may be sold sooner rather than later.

In 1988, President Reagan had given the country an incredible economy, and even in Illinois and Chicago, financial conditions were booming. In 2024, the economy is in shambles, especially in Illinois and Chicago with so many economic issues. Even in the most corrupt city of the most corrupt state, how can state and local government pay anything to a billionaire when what's left of the Middle Class and the Lower Class can't make it to the end of the month without going in the red? If Reinsdorf wants a new park at The 78, he has the money to finance 100% of the deal. When Webster Halsted has to decide whether to buy food or medicine at Jewel the last week of every month, and if a billionaire gets more billions for a dumb game, thousands of Webster Halsted's might decide to assemble and petition the government for a redress of grievances in a very not peaceable manner. Sell the team and let Nashville deal with the worst franchise in American professional sports to join their already terribly run Titans. All their drunk honky tonk tourists and bachelorette party-goers won't care if the home team loses 121 games. You would probably enjoy a better life doing your podcast from your new home in Middle Tennessee where many of your neighbors' phone numbers begin with 312 or 713. Charlotte can then get an expansion team with Salt Lake City.
