I am surprised the BD does not have more of a following? It definitely seems like the best bang for the buck!

I agree it really is. I remember hearing everyone loathed the Bede-5 and it was dubbed the pilot killer and Jim Bede a lier and thief etc. Which in return I think gave a bad taste in everyone's mouth about anything Bede related. Probably doesn't help it has a box appearance. I think the tide is changing for the aircraft. Especially if you want a new certified high wing aircraft that isn't 500k++

High wing is nice for getting in out, usually 2 doors, good for my wife with back issues.

Excellent point and the Bd-4 doors are massive.

I appreciate your series and look forward to more posts. I never even heard of the BEDE. Thank you for giving me something to research a bit more. I am not an engineer but I don't see how it can be so good on fuel with the nose it has on it. Go figure. I watched the engine teaser video. Maybe I did not watch close enough. But what engine are you putting in yours? I am guessing with how often you mention smiles per mile you are going with 4 cylinder.

Hello! Thank you, I grew up knowing the name mostly negative but I later realized that was specifically the bd-5 micro jet not the bd-4. I definitely agree I'll tell my fuel burn with zero sugar coating. I say smiles per mile in relation to getting your plane done sooner than later. As for the engine I did let the cat out of the bag a little with my latest in the shop short. It shows 4 cylinders on just on side of the block. But since you asked I will tell you. It's an LS3.

@@B-RadThePILOT This build just became so much more exciting. With the LS3 it is astounding how much lower the rebuild cost can be.

@@jberg411 absolutely, saftey, availability and cost were contributions factors to my decision. With the money saved I could buy another engine leave it on the stand ready to swap at any moment. Mind you I have meticulously went thru recommend engine maintenance from the manufacture and converted the milage to an hourly checklist of items. In an effort to treat it with a safety factor that aligns with aviation standards and above all service the engine as you would for an aircraft engine.

@B-Rad The PILOT In doing your research what video or website was the Tipping Point when you mentally made the decision the Bede4 is my next plane?
@B-RadThePILOT Жыл бұрын
@@jberg411 The major tipping point was the NTSB records and a close second was the active builders forum on bd-4.org. 3rd was performance numbers from members and not the manufacturer website. Sadly no video influenced by decision but I do enjoy watching @skyfun videos.
