About 60,000 classic cars fill the streets of Cuba, and a trip isn't complete without a ride. Cubans have used their ingenuity to keep these decades-old cars on the streets.

Its almost impossible to make new cars like old ones. Classic cars are super unsafe compared to new cars and a big part of that is the chassi. New cars are also more aerodynamic which helps increase kilometers per liters and such.

Even knowing that the reason they still have these cars is due to necessity and the block on imports, i still think it's truly amazing not only how they kept this style of car alive over there, but also how they managed to keep these same 50's cars running to this very day. It's truly a testament to how planned obsolescence wasn't a thing yet.

I should know I live in Cuba for 3 months back in 2000. There was a big opportunity to tell something historical that was completely ignored in this video, such as the Batista regime with the full support of the United State as well as the Italian-American Mafia hence why so many luxury American Car are there in the first place. what a pity could have been a very interesting video.

It wouldn’t work the same. This era as well as the late 60s early 70s era is something that can never come back because they were products of the time. The 50s were a period of post-war happiness and prosperity that saw great interest and innovation in technology and styling, and an avid interest in space. The muscle era was symbolic of a more carefree lifestyle embraced by many at the time. This was due in part to the Vietnam war, but also Boomers wanting to be free and rebellious. An attempt was made to bring back retro styling in the 2000s, but that eventually because outdated and no longer the trend.

I dated a Cuban woman (Mirna V.~aka Mi Amore) in Miami,FL. I went with her to visit Cuba years ago on a vacation (she wanted to go home to visit and we used immigration rules to our advantage). I spent 3 week in the town/village of Bayamo. Great people there... As a car guy..I wanted to hire a cargo ship and buy every car on the island

You don't have to go to Cuba there are plenty of 47 Fords in the US. I know where there is one rotting in a field about 2 miles from me.

@@theextremeanimator4721 this right here! I'm Cuban but moved to the US back in 2012 when I was about 7 and it was as bad as you can imagine, only reason I still visit is because I still have family over there but if it wasn't for them I wouldn't step another foot in that country, nothing but sadness floods into my head whenever I think about where id be if I had not had the chance to come here. I guess its neat for others for tourism and such but ask anybody else that was born there if Theye'd ever go back
