It was always curious to me in the original PS2 Battlefront II that Sidious was the only lightsaber user that walked around without it activated, only using it to block or using his slow primary attack CPU Sidious also would NEVER use the lightsaber attack, only ever using it to block For a PS2 game with badly outdated graphics, they really did pay attention highly to detail, it really is an underrated game

Certainly, Maul and Savage were never particularly gifted in the force like other sith were. They made up for this by being incredible with a lightsaber. Sidiuous using a lightsaber to beat both of them before overpowering them with the force was essentially him mocking them to their faces. That he was better than them in the area they trained their entire lives at in an area that was beneath him.

There were sith throughout history that didnt use sabers. Some used swords, some used special staffs, some even relied on their power of the force as a weapon. Darth traya was especially critical of lightsabers, even claiming that male force users were especially attached to what she saw as an "insignificant thing" Palpatine was a master of the force he had no practical use for a saber, he manipulated his enemies for so long . They did. If you read "Revenge of the Sith" novel it explains. Right after he became Chancellor he commissioned a sculpture for his office made out of a particular type of metal that was difficult for security scans to penetrate to be made and a cavity inside into which one of his lightsabers was placed. When he sensed the Jedi Council coming to relieve him of his position he used the Force to activate the lightsaber inside the sculpture where it within five or ten seconds burned a hole right through the metal and he levitated it out of the sculpture, deactivated the blade and it flew right into his sleeve all without physically touching it. How he hid the second one idk.

Actually, the man has a point. We've seen people barehanded defeat lightsaber users (Ahsoka vs. Random Inquisitor) and the force is powerful enough to deactivate a lightsaber (Ahsoka again), change his course (bunch of people), deflect laser shots(Vader) and even froze them mid air(Kylo Ren). Then the force can improve your speed(Qui Gon and Obi-wan) and enhance your jumping(Obi-wan, master of low-ground). Not to mention classic such as force push and others. So yeah, let's say you get a very experienced martial artist who's also a very talented force user. No lightsaber needed at all. Force is a far more powerful weapon.

Yeah sure, so he only fought Maul, Mace and other Jedi/Dark Jedi and other Sith with a lightsaber just for show. Smh 🙄 Actually, the Sith are the opposite of The Jedi, where they have more advanced abilities to subdue their opponents like when Sidious overpowered Luke with his Sith lightning. But nonetheless, the red Sith lightsaber is a powerful weapon used against any opponent as well. If I read it correctly in Star Wars Insider magazine, the red crystal that the Sith use for their lightsaber is powerful enough to possibly break through any blade of a Jedi lightsaber. With enough force and stealth. So weather if Sidious believed the lightsabers to be under rated or not doesn’t change the fact that he knew when to use them when being threatened like his duel with Mace Windu and even Master Yoda.

Yeah, there’s 3 types of force users types, those who prefer to fight using just force abilities, those who prefer to fight using just lightsabers and those who use both extensively during fights. He definitely has always been the “imma just force lightning everyone to get my way” kinda guy. What makes me sad is that there are a ton of really cool force powers in the lore that don’t get show cased at all in any of the Star Wars tv shows/movies. My favorite dark force power is called Deadly Sight, where all one needs to do is look at someone and that person/object starts disintegrating. Really advanced users of this power can use it quite discretely too without unintentionally harming anyone else in their line of sight. Just imagine sitting in a coffee shop, you’re drinking a cup and someone you despise takes a seat across the shop. You use deadly sight and turn them to ashes without moving a finger. No one else knows what’s going on, all anyone sees is the guy disintegrating. No one knows you did it and very few people are able to effectively counter it.

There is, in my opinion, more power and repute in a character that excels at something, while ironically not actually even caring about that ability or skill. The fact of the matter is, Palpatine was one of the very greatest lightsaber duellists whom had ever lived. Yet he didn't even care about it. What is more unsettling? The Sith Lord whom is extremely talented with a lightsaber but had to hone that skill endlessly and at great personal effort across their entire lives as Sith Lords, or the Sith Lord whom is better than almost anyone else without even giving a damn? Darth Sidius/Emperor Palpitine used the strategies/principles/philosophy of Machiavelli. Operating in the shadows using his power tactfully and mainly using others to do his bidding and only getting his hands dirty when absolutely necessary. He never reveals his true intentions until his victims realize it too late and it's already happened or happening. It's a real life principles/philosophy&strategy that most people in powerful positions use, well I should say clever and also evil people in power use, because there are very many unethical and dark aspects to it.

I love how even though he despised using them he also respected there effectiveness I mean each of his apprentices were literally master duelists plus it’s such a Palpatine move to literally master something far more than anyone else JUST so that way if he does have to use his sabers no one is a challenge to him I mean look at his duel with Maul and Savage the entire time he is laughing his ass off and having the time of his life but there scared shitless fighting for there life what’s even funnier to me is that later in ROTS when he fought against 3 Jedi masters he only used 1 saber instead of 2 showing how little he thought of and actually feared the Jedi
