Haye was a thinker. More specifically, an overthinker. He is intelligent, consciencous, fairly agreeable,. These aren't necessarily the traits of a killer in a boxing ring. But. In the theatre of war, his fight or flight was tuned firmly to fight. His palpable nervous energy would have him pounce on his man with so much as a sniff of an opening, a glint of light through armour, and he had to tools to dispose of his opponent in truly emphatic fashion. I like Haye. There's a human story in his career. Not like Ngannou who worked his way out of a mine, or Fury overcoming an addiction. But a story of a man, who unlike AJ, never let that demon on his shoulder get the better of him. He is a warrior, a champion, and I feel privileged to have witnessed his contribution to British, and boxing as a whole. Big up The Hayemaker. Good times.

Haye was a typical fast twitch muscle fibre fighter. Very effective but very vulnerable to injury and aging.
@jetmirselimi8944Ай бұрын
interesting observation, just out of curiosity, why would an explosive fast twitch athlete be more prone to injury?
@Abyssian007Ай бұрын
@@jetmirselimi8944 To grossly simplify the thinking behind this, it relies on the idea that as you age "fast twitch fibre" becomes less flexible, slower to recover and prone to tears. The fibber type in question is extremely demanding in energy and not particularly resistant to fatigue sometime moreso as within the type of fast twitch fibber there are variations which improves or reduces these effects. The problem arises when there is a repetition of brutally fast movements; which as the fatigue settles in, have more chances of causing tears and therefore injuries. The aging athlete will still demand the same effort from a muscle it has always done, alas said muscle no longer sustain such explosivity and will result in injury-riddle athletes past 27-30. It is also a self fulfilling prophecy as in boxing slowing down when a boxer relied on speed his entire career results in dramatic consequence as the he gets hit more often and therefore get hurt a lot more often than he would be accustomed and conditioned to sustain. However, note that I have never read any real concrete scientifical evidence proving this theory, it just "conveniently" passes the eye test across multiple sports where numerous famously explosive athletes have short injury-plagued career.

This video about Haye’s career was amazing mate - I was very much like you - I was a huge Haye fan but I have always thought the exact same that the way his career ended - even though he lost badly - he got that chance to show how much heart and fight he had and get rid of the big toe legacy that kept following him around after Klitschko fight and then the subsequent big fight pull outs with Fury etc. was fitting that Haye got to prove his heart - even though true Haye fans like us already knew he had heart - but that big toe excuse and the way he lost to Klitschko he struggled to shake that off

Klitschko wasnt chinny, he had a normal chin but being a HW makes the risk of being chinned quite big. Corrie sanders was a massive puncher, and against the other fighters it was more due to stamina. Let me just start by saying I like Haye, followed his career right from the start, have seen almost all of his fights, and rate him highly. He was a very dangerous and exciting customer with huge power, speed and athleticism Knocked out in the ABAs by Jim Twite. Stopped by Solis in the World Championships. CW Haye Stopped by a 40 year old Carl Thompson. Sure Haye gassed but Thompson took everything he could dish out and stopped him Dropped heavily, badly hurt and almost knocked out by the much smaller (SMW-LHW) Lolenga Mock who was 0-4-1 in his last 5 fights. In fact, he was hurt so badly by that right hand over the top he had to rugby tackle Mock to the canvas to buy time for his head to clear. Can you imagine the crap Usyk would get if he'd been dropped heavily and was literally a punch away from being sparked out by a blown up SMW journeyman who was 0-4-1 in his last 5 fights? Haye went life-and-death with Fragomeni. If the Italian possessed even a semblance of power he would've stopped him. Haye was dropped and put on spaghetti legs by Mormeck who wasn't a big puncher Haye's best wins at CW Mormeck Fragomeni Enzo Gurov Two of his best wins at that weight came against opponents who were packing serious glass (Enzo and Gurov). Both those guys could undoubtedly punch but Guvov had been stopped x 4 going into that fight, 3 times of which early (1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounds), and Enzo had been KO'd in 3 by a domestic level and would go on to lose 2 of his next 3 fights via stoppage too, and then the following year after that last KO loss he was brutally sparked out cold. Of their combined 14 losses 13 of them were inside the distance Haye's best wins at HW Valuev Ruiz (washed, never fought again) Chisora All of whom big slow plodders or slow plodders Wlad schooled him and would've KO'd him had Haye not fought to survive. Lost twice to Bellew via stoppage. Sure he was injury-ravaged but even in the rematch he was younger than Usyk is now but people act like the later is still un his prime when he hasn't been for years Haye would be dangerous and competitive in this era and he would beat some of the top HWs and lose to some of the others. No way he'd beat Usyk and let's not forget Haye's chin was vulnerable and there are lots of big punchers and KO artists giants among the current crop who could KO him or knock him senseless
@conandoyle174027 күн бұрын
Followed the career from around 2007-8 very closely as well. My take is following: Haye had two careers (maybe 3 if you count the comeback against Bellew) 1. Pre PED’s and Steroids Up until the Thompson loss 2. Everything after the Thompson loss but specifically everything after he had his training camp for Enzo in Miami 2007/8. People who followed his career closely know that’s where everything changed. Haye all of a sudden had - more speed and power than ever - improved punch resistance to body and Head - more balance and legs - completely different body composition Reduced body fat while being heavier and carrying more muscle mass 1 year and a bit later in 2009 Haye fought a giant of a Man for the real WBA title. Haye looked unrecognisable compared to just 2 years prior. Almost knocked the giant down as well. Overall an extreme feat and underrated as hell performance he pulled of that night, till this day. If you watch that fight and then his following run, maybe besides the Off night against Wlad (who was at his peak back then with Steward in his corner) it’s very evident to me that Haye used some loopholes in the Vada testing system to enhance himself. Especially against Chisora in 2012 a fight I watched live ringside, it was extremely suspect how different Haye looked and performed against a mountain of a Heavyweight weighing like 20kg more than him. Remember just 4 years prior to that Haye struggled badly against Mormeck who was like 50-60lbs lighter than Chisora. Haye would have continued to peak or stayed at that level for some years if his body wouldn’t have given up on him is my take. I have no doubt that at this stage Haye would have made an easy nights work of a young immature Fury. Haye was always up for shenanigans like the retirement farce he pulled with his old pal Elliot who wrote a book on him. I believe Haye never wanted to retire that early and his body just was ravaged by the Ped use and the hardcore training. In 2014-15 he lost Millions of pounds by investing in some fraudulent gym chain in Dubai, then he had a costly divorce in 2016 and that’s what made him do that move to come back. Haye mentioned there was a documentary he had been filming since 2011 and the losses against bellew sort of derailed that from coming out, maybe he is waiting for one last opportunity to put a happy ending to this and we will see what really happened in the latter stages of his career. Haye was extremely exciting and def. One of the most explosive punchers in recent Boxing history, he was just one tiny step away from having the recognition. If he had won that Klitschko fight he’d be a hall of famer now.
@leemartins7081Ай бұрын
Haye was a great fighter who gets too much stick for the toe injury, which was legitimate and would effect any fighter. He was slick, fast and strong. Unfortunately, at about 6'3 and 16 stone, he was just a little too small to deal with the freakishly big Wlad. Belluw's wins really shouldn't be considered as his body was broken at that stage.

I know you're a guy who loves action (64 wins and 53 by KO for Wladimir btw and 45 wins and 41 by KO for Vitaliy.. Ridiculous considering the amount of fights as well) but you usually appreciate high skill and you seem to dismiss Klitschko's whenever you speak of them. Undefeated for 11 years and only at 39 after such a long reign finally losing to the younger guys was bound to happen. Absolute masterclass and reign of domination. But i guess agree to disagree. Vs Wilder = Cagey shootout but Haye's better IQ would counter Wilder and then finish him explosively. Ends before 6. Vs AJ = Similar but AJ's inability to take a shot makes the finishing process easier if not a conclusive knockout. Vs Fury = Fury's experienced gained from the Cunningham fight prepares him for the right hands and wins a safe points decision. Fury too big too long. I also believe this is the outcome had they fought when they were supposed to all them years ago as Fury was really levelling up his game then under Peter in preparation for Wlad, couple that with studying Haye's/Wlad performance. I certainly wouldn't be surprised if Haye cracked him and gets Fury in all sorts of trouble but you then start to favour Fury's miraculous powers of recovery to wear down a fading Haye that blew the gas tank. Yeah I know this mimics Joey's take lol. Basically agree with the whole video so this was a waste of time. Yep.

i think haye vs (prime for prime): - usyk, haye would lose. i mean usyk is in the conversation for the GOAT cruiser weight, and the first undisputed heavy since lennox. - fury, haye would still have lost. fury is still great and much bigger. - joshua, i think haye wins. haye can dance around and pepper AJ with jabs and one-twos which are just much faster than AJ's - wilder, haye could win if he goes to the right and was able to avoid wilder's right. just gotta stay defensively responsible. - joe joyce, idk, haye should win by decision. but prime joe joyce had a chin that even if haye hits him flush 10 times, he ain't gon crack. but i doubt joe could hit haye. - jo-park. i really don't know for this one. - zhang, with parker vs zhang, i think it would be similar for haye vs zhang. but again, when exactly is zhang's prime. maybe he was really good in his early 30s but we didn't see it.

David has the size and frame of a heavyweight so why did he waste most of his career at cruiserweight?

one dimmensional ambush fighter. Excellent cruiserweight though.

Really love these career breakdowns. Really do think this current generation missed out on calzhaghe , remember watching him against Lacey when I was a kid and was hooked

For me personally David haye would beat pretty much all of them bar Hrgovic who i just think would beat him pretty easy there are also a lot of toss ups I would favour usyk to win being the superior boxer but honestly I believe David haye would chin him he’s more elusive than usyk hits harder and is the stronger of the 2 I can see it going either way. I think he Knocks wilder out easy. He knocks out AJ easy. Fury is another 50/50 toss up. I can see fury pulling a wlad on him, but can also see Haye putting Tyson down multiple times and potentially stopping him or winning due to the knockdowns on points tough tough fight though. Andy Ruiz isn’t a top heavyweight in my opinion and Haye would beat him pretty comfortably just with his jab alone. Haye was a legit special fighter like he wasn’t all hype like a lot of the guys in this generation. He was a legitimate massive puncher and was very very elusive in his prime and was a brilliant counter puncher. He was top tier in all those aspects.

Interesting take, what makes you think Hrgovic beats him more easily than anyone else?
@mlegend5741Ай бұрын
@ stylistically it’s a really bad match up, biggest thing though I’d say his ability to take a shot. The current generation of heavyweights a lot of them can’t really take a shot and they have been overly protected if you look at their records. AJ has beaten a bunch of old men and mid level opposition when he’s faced credible fighters in Usyk and Dubois he was soundly beat. Fury has only 4 credible names on his record Deontay wilder, Klitshco, Dillian whyte and Usyk. Deontay wilder has only lost when he’s stepped up aside from Luis Ortiz who he went life and death with in the first fight. Like these guys have not been built on actual credibility but hype not saying their bad fighters but they aren’t what they’re made out to be and they’re just not at that elite level. Haye on the other hand did fight top quality opposition especially at cruiserweight and just with the skill set he displayed it’s just far above what these guys have been up against. AJ has only faced klitscho and Dubois as big punchers and Dubois steam rolled him like he thought he would. Dubois isn’t all that great himself he’s got a gaping wide defence and is very hittable once he faces someone that can handle his pressure and hit back he’ll fold or get knocked out. Usyk to his credit has beaten everyone so it just makes it difficult for me to saying anything negative but nobody has really exploited his weaknesses, he does not deal well with pressure he practically doesn’t even punch on the back foot. For whatever reason everyone decided to box him rather than jump on him, haye for me is a better fighter than Usyk he hits harder, he’s faster, he’s more elusive but Usyk has better output and better feet. Hrgovic in my opinion would replicate the wlad performance but better. I’ve seen them both spar too and yeah it was quite clear what would happen.

Klitchko schooled him though, I was well backing haye in that fight but he was so disappointing. Did go out on his shield at all, he should have just gone for it. But didn’t want to get ko d and played it safe. After watching video I reckon Ruiz not sure? Parker w Povetkin l DDD w Uysk w Wilder w Hrgovic w Zhang w Aj L but could get lucky Fury w

Usyk would beat Haye, but the others would struggle with Hayes speed and as a result he'd be in the mixer with the top heavyweights.
@kingrobthegreat7446Ай бұрын
DO you think Fury recently threw the fight against Usyk??
@jamestodd1376Ай бұрын
I have to agree with you opinion but I’ll make the fury a 50/50
@DirtyJamesUKАй бұрын
I think Haye would have been top 10, not top 5. I dont think Haye would have beaten Parker, Dubois, Joshua, Fury, maybe even Wilder. He might have stood a spectacular outside chance against Usyk, because of his sniper style, like Wilder. Yeah, I reckon he'd be lucky to be top 10 tbh.

What about vlad or vitali in this era both better than Haye one of em proved it they would been up there as well likes prime Joshua went life and death with old vlad fury had to take him to to points couldn’t get him out there reckon prime vlad would be number 1 still or number 2 we never saw him fight usyk but prime for prime he beats Joshua and fury it’s only coz he’s old they beat him
