I don't think the new Batman is going to be cracking jokes every 10 minutes and I get your point. But Gunn shouldn't keep the DC universe either dark or light, he's should and is gonna tell the story that fits each characters the best. And once you know what they are individually about, you find a way to keep the character true to who they are once they are put in darker or lighter situations. If DC animation have been able to do it since the early 2000s, and the first 3 phases of the mcu. Current DCU should be able to do with Timm and Co did for over 20 years before Timm got too much control and no one from the old crew was there to say no to KJ or BaHQ.

Well, DC's dark tone works best for Batman and his rogues' gallery, but can also improve the rest of the Justice League, Justice Society, Titans, etc., since all superheroes fight big-city crime.

Batman is the only legit Dark hero character in the main front DC catalog, people need to read the comicbook source material revolving around the JL Trinity members more thoroughly rather than just watching the hit & miss (incredibly) divisive DCEU movies.

Dark tones can work in movies dc comics always had that more dark and more serious situations they just have to do it right but honestly they should do movies with the animation of that Arkham origins trailer vs death stroke ik it’s a lot of money and time but these studios got that.

The problem that people have when they say “Dc needs to drop the edgy shit” is the dark overall tone. You need the stories to be very bright, so that when the story callls for some darkness it’s noticeable. Dc’s cinematic universe has an “overall” dark tone. It doesnt make you feel good and happy like, like watching a spiderman movie, or avengers movie does. You feel dread for 90% of the movie, and then relief when the world isn’t destroyed. Relief is different from happiness or upbeat. When i read superman it should make me feel happy and hopeful. And then when the time finally comes (keyword finally) for darkness, aka supermans death or a moral dilemma that leads to tragedy. It hits hard. Tldr if the light in a room is barley illuminated enough for you to see your hands in front of your face, when you switch that light off. Theres barley a difference. You feel me?
