Little funfact about DiD: As 9:54 adresses this, DiD-Systems do not necessarily have an original personality. Finally, some appreciation for Diavolo. Fantastic editing and explaining! Only one little complaint, tho: the music was sometimes a bit too loud, making it difficult to hear you. Oh, also, one more thing: the line "nothing he's got he really needs" was interpreted not very correctly. It rather meant that Diavolo doesn't really use all that power and money he's got as a mob boss - like, he doesn't enjoy successful, luxurious life, he doesn't triumph as an owner of the country - he just sits in a dark corner, fully covered in paranoia and fear. Really fascinating.

As for the music line, I really like your interpretation of it but the reason why I suggested that it can be akin to Diavolo sacrificing his own humanity for power & money is because it relates to many key aspects of his character, one of them being how he chose to kill trish to remain hidden when he easily could’ve done what Bruno suggested to keep her safe

I mean demons do exist in Jojo, also Doppio/Diavolo have two different souls, so it’s not just a mental condition, he could just be a demon who forced his own birth with Doppio. Also just because he would be this evil soul, it doesn’t mean can’t be Trish’s true dad, in fact it’d make sense how their blood is powerful like the Joestar’s, Doppio would’ve prob never been with Donatella at all. I think he’s a “”demon”” as in a messed up soul born with Doppio in weird circumstances, he doesn’t need to be the incarnation of evil.

I didn’t say demons don’t exist in Jojo’s, what I was saying is that Diavolo himself isn’t a demon, as he’s only a metaphorical figure of the devil (or a demon) within the story. Also, Diavolo only has two different souls because his DID worsened the older he got (he’s 33 now) according to polnareff, which means that it’s still a mental condition, albeit a very over-exaggerated one considering that it is jojos afterall.

@@MAMZYY_YT Him being a demon is not confirmed, neither is his soul being originally one. Id say it’s much weirder for a soul to become two, and two so distinct at that, that the daughter of one of them (from before this supposed worsening), can only feel one. Demons are just bad spirits in Jojo, and it stands to reason that the abnormality of his birth was due to this other soul, being born as well. It isn’t possession, but if Diavolo was there from the beginning, which seems more likely than not, then either for some random reason two souls were born or there was an interference, it seems plausible that a soul like one in dead man’s questions would try and be born again, losing all their memories, but not some of their weird traits (crazy paranoia). Since we have almost no info on anything it’s all just as plausible as everything else, and it doesn’t take anything away from the character.

If you look back at the scene with polnareff, there’s a visual presentation of how one goes from having 1 soul to then 2 split souls because of DID (in-universe) that goes along with his explanation, so technically it has been confirmed that the soul wasn’t originally split from birth, cause otherwise his explanation makes no sense and is just wasted screentime. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against the idea of them both being born simultaneously cause the anime’s director decided that for the anime and made it look plausible (albeit in a different way). I just think that based on everything that was confirmed within the story that they weren’t born as 2 separate souls, but instead just 2 split personalities that later became 2 separate souls because of how much worse Diavolo/Doppio’s DID got with time.

The thing is, spiritual soul themes in JoJo are pretty loose and serve as symbolic visualisation of some complex psychological aspects of human nature. After all, it's a show about fate, humanity spirit, and being truthful to yourself and others. So, no, it actually is split personality - just over exaggerated as JoJo often does with many things.

Araki literally stated he believes in ghosts and spirits irl the way he writes them in Jojo, and there have been many instances where this explanation of yours regarding psychological themes just doesn’t apply at all, specially in Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan, where most of this stuff is presented.

I do think is less of a matter of being underrated and more of the fact that Jojo have soo many amazing villains that is inevitable to choose who is less and who is more. Diavolo main issue would be lack of screen time because other then that i think is a very good and interesting villain, is just the competency is very rough.

​@Mavuika_Gyaru The reason the arrow didn't grant Diavolo power was bc Bucciarati had thoroughly destroyed SCR, forcing everyone to return to their bodies, making Diavolo/KC ethereal. It has nothing to do with the arrow necessarily rejecting him. Rereead/rewatch the scene.
