The soundtrack is hard to listen to the whole time, but you provided a thorough, thoughtfully accurate and well-spoken essay answer to an at first trite-seeming question

Gandalf was at a disadvantage due to limitations placed upon him by the Valar,he was essentially participating in a gunfight with just a minimum amount of ammo 🤔

Nice video - but it’s not a great mystery why Gandalf feared Sauron! They were both maiar, but Sauron was far more powerful than Gandalf. However, Gandalf was more intelligent and wiser.

It’s a very clear explanation of Tolkien’s view of good and evil. As nuanced as he was, it’s made clear that (especially during Tolkien’s time) evil corrupts the benevolent and Brutish alike. If anything this simple explanation of a very complex work serves to spread the beauty of one man’s vision. The smallest among us can win against all odds. Let us hope beyond hope he was right❤

Great video! Love how you stated it plainly, Gandalf was humble and understood the war power Sauron possesed. He knew maiar had raw destructive power that could kill other maiar and death even for an immortal is still horrific

Sauron without the ring was not a threat. It wasn’t until he bound his power to the ring did he become so powerful.

Can someone offer an explanation to me please? The one thing that doesn't make sense to me is that Sauron was incarnate. (if Sauron put 20% of his 100% into his ring, so let's say he has 80% of his power + Ring) So HE possesses the ONE ring, the SEVEN and the NINE and yet he lost everything to a HUMAN king of Numenor. Then he reincarnated (60% PWR + ring) and is defeated at the last Alliance of men and elves. it takes thousands years for him to reincarnate again. (40% pwr) But Gandalf makes a statement that sounds like if Sauron got back the one ring he would be immensely powerful able to dominate all life in Middle Earth. But how is that even possible because we're looking at a vastly diminished being? He would be (40%+20% ring= 60%) But also there was a point in his history when he had EVERYTHING and still was not able to Succeed. He had all powers and ring, but was defeated by two Elves and two humans so the Threat doesn't seem real. So even with the one ring, he was defeated before by humans he could be defeated again. The only exception is the Elves are leaving, magic is waning in and the human race has also wained. So even a vastly weaker Sauron could gain dominance over a vastly weaker creation. Which it's why it is important to destroy the ring and end the cycle once and for all. But without this caveat... the inference Gandalf makes doesn't make sense. If you've read this far I'd be really interested in your thoughts and opinions on what I've stated. Thank you 😁

1 - Pls keep power scaling bs out of Tolkien world xD 2 - Sauron didn't loose to one mere human and one mere elf, there was a war that lasted years ,where the full force of elves and man joined together to battle the dark lord , and both the high king of man (Elendil) and one of the last high elves in middle earth (Gil-galad) gave their lives to injure Sauron enough for Isildur to finish the job 3 - On the third age, not only are man kingdoms relations extremely weakened (both with each other and also with other races), but also most of the man of that time were themselves weaker the man from the second age. As are most of the elves still on middle earth , since most high elves that had dwelved in the sacred lands already left by that time. 4 - If sauron got the one ring, it would make all others unusable, and remember Galadriel , Gandalf and Elrond all had one of the 3 elven rings, and is it said the the realms of Elrond and Galadriel only remain due to the power of those rings (that's why they all left when the one ring got destroyed, as the elven rings also lost their powers ) . It would also mean ofc that those 3 , maybe the very few that could challenge Sauron , would loose a very strong asset on their arsenal.

@@blue-pi2kt If that was correct it goes to show how powerful some of the first elves were and how different the world was before Beleriand sunk into the sea. Perhaps it fits Tolkiens world well that magic slowly faded from middle earth.

@@MidheimOfficial Fingolfin lasted for an extended period in single combat with Morgoth. Resurrected Gil-galad and Elendil both died fighting Sauron. The first elves were absurdly powerful compared to even the ones we see in the Third Age, especially those who lived during the light of the Two Trees.

If I remember correctly sauron gave the witch king alot of his power before the battle. Making the witch kind even stronger than normal. Plus the witch king might have been wearing one of the rings of power. Although I think Gandalf was wearing one too, I can't remember if Gandalf still had it during the battle.

This was a problem with Tolkien storyline. Why would a Wizard be forced to constrain his power? Why did the Valar not confront Sauron? Why did Sauron have free reign over Middle Earth?
@yingfuli
@yingfuli 2 күн бұрын
It was not a problem but a deliberate ploy. Sauron was Middle Earths problem first and foremost. Gandalf's task was to find and unite pockets of resistance to make a last stand. As a Maia he couldn't have done as much as he did as an old wizard. As to why the Valar let Sauron have free reign: they didn't but they also couldn't exactly come down on him as they did with Morgoth at the end of the First Age.

@yingfuli Sending Hobbits to destroy a Ring without protection. Hiking up Mount Doom to destroy the Ring without detection by Sauron. It just seems improbable. I enjoy Tolkien's books. He was an excellent author. Just had some concerns.

Sauron is like the antichrist. Sauron is the right hand-man of Melkor and his will. The one ring having its own will is the fulfillment Sauron’s will. The Will of the One Ring is equivalent to the Sin of Lust whether it be of Sexual origin or seeking of Power. The residents of middle-earth believe they can master the power of the one ring to benefit the world but the one ring has only one master…one will. Biblically speaking, the one ring is the Will of Sin and we must flee from what leads to sin. We must flee from lust. Frodo is like any one of us going through a journey to not sin while Sam is the equivalent of his guardian angel, the Spirit or Jesus Christ living in us; while Gallum is the tempter, the deceiver, the YOU if you submit to sin and are too deep within spiritual death. Sméagol is us who continually fall into sin and later regrets it while Gallum is the thoughts where he tells you that you can sin now and later ask for forgiveness.
