My parents were married 62 years. Born in England and migrated to Australia when I was 4 years old. For medical reasons my mother could only have one child and that was me. My Father was 4 years older than my Mother. They were so happy together and inseparable. My Mother died suddenly aged 85 after she had gone to the bathroom and had sat down in her recliner chair. Dad was sitting in another chair and hadn't even noticed that she had died. Dad who was always so jovial with everyone had become solemn and withdrawn and he missed Mum dearly. He would kiss her photo every night before retiring to bed. He just wanted to be where she was, to be reunited again with her. 4 months after her death Dad died, God had granted his wish. Now that is pure love between a husband and wife! That kind of a marriage is God's recipe for fulfillment and happiness.

You did not answer the question. Why did God allow some men to have multiple wives in the OT? David is said to be cut in God's heart and in the Book of Hebrews Gideon is considered as one of the heroes of faith . Yet these two had many wives (more than four). Judges 8:30 & 2 Samuel 12: 8-12. The sin of Solomon is to marry wives from idolatrous nations which the Lord has forbidden the Israelites to intermarry since they will turn their hearts to their gods. The Lord did not forbid Solomon or the Israelites to marry more than one wives if they come from the tribes of Israel - 1 Kings 11 1-4.

Those Arguments are suppositions and if we really dig into the historical, cultural and systems of marriage we will see that there was a reason and it qualified for what they did. If you look at the list of Sexual Sins listed in Leviticus you will see that no where was Polygamy mentioned. It had NO punishment attached to Polygamy but there was a way in which it was to be practiced and it wasnt based on selfishness or depriving another man from a wife.

Furthermore God gave Saul's wives to David. "And I gave you your master's house and your master's wives into your arms..." 2 Samuel 12:8

Paul says that a man and his wife owe each other due benevolence. When a man wants his wife she is to comfort him. How can one man comfort multiple wives at once? The whole arrangement is very selfish. As far as King David is concerned, He is the only person in the bible described as a man after God's own heart. God forgave him for his sin with Bathsheba. He promised more wives to King David only. Everyone else is breaking the law by taking more than one wife. King Solomon had 300 wives. Was that not lustful? Every man with multiple wives broke the law. God forbade the practice when Israel fired God and asked Samuel for a king. I like your video but I disagree with your approach on this one. You used today’s mental thinking and values to define and discredit polygamy which does not apply during the church period, Jews still practice polygamy while Roman law prohibited it. In the Old Testament period polygamy was practiced for various reasons such as 1.There were more females than males. 2.There was a desire to increase the wealth of the household. 3.A large number of children was needed to work the fields or with the herds. 4.Many females died in childbirth. 5.In nomadic communities it was important for every female to be attached to a household. As to David and Solomon, I am more then sure their polygamy was politically related and not because he fell in love 8 to 700 times. In addition, it is documented that many Mormon families have more than one wife and they live in harmony with one another. Not to say that it’s legal or correct in today’s setting but at the same time, it’s not biblically condemned. Disunity, and jealousy is not the curse of polygamy because that is also experienced in monogamists marriages. I still like your videos although this one was way off course. I think it could have been developed much better.

This video is incorrect. However, polygamy was practiced for many different reasons and not just for love. Today we marry for love but back in the older days it was practiced for political, social status, and economic reasons. The bigger the family, the more protected they were. So polygamy was not a sin but a necessity. In Roman law during the church period, it was illegal to practice polygamy but Jews still practiced polygamy while the Roman law had to adjust to Jewish practice. However, according to Paul, the law exposes sin. If there is no law, then how do we know if it’s a sin? This is the question of Paul and stating the purpose of the law. In the Old Testament, they had plenty of laws from the Torah. 613 commands to be exact. Not one of them prohibited polygamy. Many of G-d people in the Old Testament had multiple wives. Had it been a sin, would you think G-d would have stated what he said about David being a man after G-d’s heart? Of course not. Simple answer is, if there was no law against it, then it was not a sin. During the time of Adam and Eve, it was not a sin to marry your sister , nieces or aunts because no law existed. After the book of Leviticus, now there was a law on who you can and can not have a sexual relationship with. The rest of what is said about the purpose and necessities of multiple wives is all in secular history. Oh, I did not even mentioned the subject of concubines....

Many multiple wives among the mornings today- in Utah, don’t have the problem of jealousy but work together in harmony. See their documentary on this subject. How can jealousy exist among the wives because of having multiple wives, when that was a natural occurrence and a norm. If jealousy occurred, it was due to other factors- not for having being the 3rd wive nor the first because they all knew the possibilities existed . Anyway, I think I said enough

If It was a. sin, then why would G-d not simply gave all women the ability to bear children even at old age? It was the culture back then. Some translations of Deuteronomy 17:17 says "he must not have "many" wives." What's many wives? Also Jesus talks much about how people were not condemned when doing certain things not allowed in the law. And finally we have what Paul says in Romans 14:22 "Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself by what he approves." This is the truth about our beliefs. But if we hurt each other then we're in violation. Not all polygamy is a violation of the Golden rule. Some agree and consent to this lifestyle.

J.M. Edwards what are you talking about? Nothing in those passages says God had two wives. First, the analogy in Ezekiel 23 was about the unfaithfulness of Israel and Judah. It gave the two sister's as an analogy or parable. Where in Jeremiah 3 does God permit polygamy? Its another analogy of Gods chosen people running after other Gods and culture. Also please show where in Jeramiah 31 vs 31& 32 show God permitting polygamy? Do you even read the Bible?

dana murphy Firstly, I will agree with you that these passages are analogies, mostly because last I checked, they neither marry nor are given in marriage in Heaven. So I do agree with you that they are analogies. However, in what biblical/scriptural world, does the fact that they are analogies equal dismissal of the principles that are being explained in them? Your attempt to do so reveals a bias against the principles that are being explained thru the analogies. This puts you on the wrong side of scripture, especially seeing as this is a direct revelation from the mouth of God to Ezekiels ear. This is God, PURPOSEFULLY CHOOSING to use a polygynous analogy to explain a physical reality. A reality in which adultery IS condemned, but polygyny IS NOT. Secondly, in response to the Ezekiel 23 passage. Both women are charged with adultery (verses 37 2x, 43 1x, 45 2x). This can only be charged of a married woman in Torah. Nowhere are they charged with fornication. Thirdly, both of them are recorded as bearing children while they were “married” to God. (Verses 4 and 37). Maybe you’d like to make the case how God sired children with them (in this analogy) outside of wedlock or covenant, (I think that would be an impossible task considering Sinai’s Covenant) but that might take you into deeper waters than polygyny to explain how a righteous God would do that. In regards to Jeremiah 3:6-14. Firstly, another analogy, direct from God to Jeremiah. Same two women, Israel and Judah. Israel commits adultery and God gives her a writing of divorcement. (Verse 8) Only the husband could give a writing of divorcement in Jewish law. Next, Judah does the same thing but God defines that as treachery (verse 11). Verse 14 says “Turn, O backsliding children [plural, still speaking to Israel and Judah]for I am MARRIED to you, and I will take you one of a city and two of a family and I will bring you to Zion [Gods house] In response to Jeremiah 31:31,32. . . . . I will make a new covenant with the HOUSE OF ISRAEL and with the HOUSE OF JUDAH [two houses, both of which are the same two women mentioned above] Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; WHICH MY COVENANT THEY BREAK [which was why they were charged with adultery in the other passages] ALTHOUGH I WAS AN HUSBAND UNTO THEM, SAITH THE LORD LET ME REPEAT THAT!!!!!!! ALTHOUGH I WAS A HUSBAND UNTO THEM, SAITH THE LORD!!!!!! I CAN REPEAT IT AGAIN IF THATS NOT LOUD ENOUGH FOR YOU!!!! So in one passage, God says he has children with these two women, and charges them with marital unfaithfulness. In the next passage, God says he’s married to both of them, and divorces one of them for marital unfaithfulness. In the next passage, both are charged with marital unfaithfulness (as a broken covenant) followed by a flat statement that God was a husband unto THEM, and that he will initiate a new covenant with THEM. In what world does this not equal polygamy? Especially as we know that it was simultaneous from the historical books of the Bible? As to where God permits Polygamy, that would be Exodus 21:10, 2 Samuel 12:8, 2 Chronicles 24:2,3. Genesis 35:9-11 is where God blesses Jacob with the same blessing as Adam (and this is as Jacob already has 4 wives and 13 children, but I’m sure God didn’t know that or he wouldnt have blessed him with a better blessing than Adam and Noah) AND, trick question, IF God was so anti polygamy, why did he not abolish it when he had the chance at Sinai? Or at any other time in the 3500 years since then? Maybe he forgot to give that part to Moses, or any of the other prophets. Maybe Christ wasn’t supposed to tell the parable of the ten virgins, five of which went into the marriage with the groom. And yes, if you cant tell yet, I do read my Bible. I notice that instead of acknowledging that God does, in fact, identify himself as the husband to two women, (thereby not only sanctioning it but being a willing participant) you have instead tried to move the goal posts by moving the conversation to adultery. Very poor form! Ok, no worries, I can answer that one also. You asked, So how does one define adultery if a man can have as many wives and concubines as he wishes? Just the mere fact that a man has concubines is adultery on his part and fornication on the part of the concubines, considering they’re not wives. Biblically, this question and conclusion are not only wrong, but very ignorant of scriptural culture, and scriptural definitions. The answer to your question is very simple. I’ll define adultery from the Bible instead of accepting your definition of adultery and concubine from Roman culture. Adultery in Scripture is a broad term best defined as covenant breaking. It includes sex outside of covenant (for married people) as well as marrying a non Israelite who hasn’t converted, as well as items like a failure to provide provision, protection and children (for the man) and worshipping false gods or breaking Torah intentionally. All of these are covenant breaking (aka adultery) because an Israelite married with the understanding that the other would keep Torah and serve God. Defining adultery as exclusively sex outside of covenant is a Roman definition, not a biblical one. You also must define a concubine scripturally rather than from a Roman cultural perspective. From a Roman perspective, a concubine was much like we think of today, a mistress that is really just a piece on the side. Biblically that was not the case. A biblically defined concubine was simply what we would call a wife today, the notable distinction was that she came into the household without a ketubah (written marriage covenant) but was definitely under covenant with all the basic rights and responsibilities of a wife. Her children would also often be absent a formal lot in the inheritance. This was usually because she usually came into the household because her father was too poor to afford a dowry, (much less an inheritance for his grandchildren) and subsequently “sold” her as a bond maid to her future husband who later elevated her from a bond maid to a wife. This would not have been adultery because their arrangement was a covenanted relationship arranged by her father. Prime example Exodus 21:7-10. Notice how the bond maid becomes a “wife” in verse 10. Hagar is another example of this in Genesis 16:3, a bond maid who became a wife/concubine. No mention of adultery. Jacob and Bilhah and Zilpah are another example. I’d challenge you to provide one iota of scriptural evidence where a concubine is ever associated with adultery. Bathsheba doesnt count. She’s never identified as a concubine, and though she entered the house as an additional wife through adultery, only the adultery is addressed by God as sin, not the polygyny . . . AND God told David he would have given him additional wives if he’d wanted them. As to the charge of chaos that was attendant on all the families, thats a weak sauce argument. Why would you apply a standard to one form of marriage that you don’t apply to all forms of marriage? Using your standard, monogamy is an unsanctioned marital structure because the first one resulted in fratricide and wifely rebellion and losing the farm and loss of fellowship with God Almighty. Terrible argument. As to the charge about Deuteronomy 17:16-17, you state that the king was not to acquire many horses or wives to himself. He was also not supposed to multiply silver either per that same passage, or did you conveniently leave that part out. So here’s my question, How much silver is too much? More than one piece? How about horses? Only one horse? And yet God, in 2 Samuel 12:8 tells David, a man who already had 6 wives (and no one knows exactly how many concubines but it was more than 10) that if David had wanted more that God would have given them. Apparently, multiplying wives is bad per Deuteronomy 17, but evidently, God doesnt consider 16 wives multiplying, just adding. And to assert that if the king cant multiply wives, that means everyone else cant either, this is the height of eisigesis! As to Moses not getting the memo, this is also the guy who was married to a Midianite woman and an Ethiopian woman. When Aaron and Miriam try to do to him what you’re doing over the issue, God rebukes the two of them, gives Miriam leprosy, and has absolutely zilch to say to Moses about the issue. Why didn't God create more than one wife for Adam? Why is their no "happy" families in scripture that participate in polygamy? They were always messed up and dysfunctional. Because of Abraham's extra wives/concubines we have the descendants of Ishmael killing christians and jews. Even Solomon in Song of Solomon is not reminiscing about his multiple wives but his first wife. (It went down hill for him when he started getting more wives). David's polygamist family was also dysfunctional and sick with incest and rape. In fact, the first man to have a second wife in the OT was Lamech, a son of Cain-- who according to the scriptures also committed the first murder. Much was "allowed" NOT CONDONED because of man's hardened heart and because they didn't know better. Matt. 19:8 " He said to them, “BECAUSE OF YOUR HARDNESS OF HEART Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, BUT FROM THE BEGINNING IT WAS NOT SO." When you know better, you do better. I believe that God tolerated polygamy, but never condoned it. Deuteronomy 17:17 forbids kings from marrying more than one wife, so it doesn’t make sense that God would give that clear prohibition and then condone it. David seems to be the one many point to as end all be all of polygamy. But the text even says he provided for them (concubines: considered to be "extra wives") but had no sexual relations with them. And according to Jewish tradition, David would take a wife, but once he had his eye on another, he would continue providing for her but stop having sexual relations with her once he took a new wife. The modern day equivalent would be divorce/alimony/ new marriage. The Bible is so honest about humanity and the failures of even those God used mightily, it dutifully records the problems those multiplied wives created. In every biblical account of men having multiple wives, there is conflict. Families not based on a monogamous relationship paid a price. The Bible shows the result of having multiple wives, and it never presents polygamy in a positive light. P.S Your last comment about the Midianite woman is a logical fallacy. Deut 7 NOT deut 17 is quoted in 2 Kings 11. 2 Kings is abundantly clear to the exegete, it is the heathen beliefs of Solomon's wives not their number that turned him away. The accusation that Solomon broke Deut 17 is entirely unbiblical and based on on you desire to rebuke solomon for polygyny. Duet 17v17 which is not quoted in the bible as a commandment that Solomon broke does not say that a king should not have more that one wife. Look closely at the entire text. Neither the numbers 1 or 2 are present only the word multiply, which could mean anything. And that is ok because that verse deut 17v17 is not saying that any number is better than another number. What the verse is saying is that a king must be careful with the worldly goods he acquires. The sufficiency of his wealth which includes silver, gold and horses must not cause him to forget that it is Yahuwah that gave him those things. The verse also says a king must not multiply horses, silver and gold just the same as he should not multiply wives. Does this mean that he must only have one horse in his military, for a war financed by one gold coin and one silver coin. Interpreting the word multiply in Deut 17 to mean only one would be ridiculous when it comes to the horses the silver and the gold. If we are to be consistent we must also conclude that having only one wife is a ridiculous interpretation of Deut 17v17. As for the golden rule. You have greatly misapplied it. It does not mean everyone gets treated the same. Your wife gets impregnated by you, have you ever been impregnated by her. Slaves obey their masters but masters do not obey their slaves. Parents must beat their children but children who beat their parents must be killed. Christ is not undoing the distinctions that exist between humans. Christ wants husbands and wives to both be faithful in their covenant. But the contract of marriage demands of the man that he protect and provide for the woman he owns. The same contract has different roles for the woman who is owned. Since the man is her master and no one can have two masters it is the role of the woman not give the the rights of her master has to another. Therefore no extra husbands. Men are designed in a way that some have the capacity to cover more than one woman. Some men have more capacity than others. The woman may be a career woman with a child who would love to go to work and know that their kid is at home being taken care of by a sister wife rather than dropping the kid off at daycare. She also knows that she won't have to come home to housework since the other wife who stays at home will do it. The stay at home wife is grateful that she doesn't have to leave her own kids and that the working wife may allow her to stay at home if the husband's wages wouldn't otherwise allow it.

I'm a cultural anthropologist and if you understand the cultures and the economic and land arrangements in those societies that practise polygamy the practice makes more sense and not in all cases are the women not "treated as you would have other treat yourself" .. some of th cases it's the women that suggest to their husbands that they acquire another wife. I'm pretty sure David didnt have his wives complain about acquiring another wife. Michal complained only of David being naked in public. Our Western culture has different views on the individual and our economy and land isnt dependent upon family and marriages. It’s more just that David was blessed in his position and God allowed it. And God “gave” David wives in the sense that God didn’t withhold any earthly thing from him. But that would require a not quite as literal interpretation of specific old testament passages. One more example though, God never mentioned for Abraham to get rid of his sex slave, Hagar. I mean maybe that’s a strong term, because he was providing for her and not keeping her drug addicted or some thing. But she still a slave and has to have sex with him when he wants. The unbelieving world is gonna keep laughin at us if we keep giving weak answers though. Still searching myself

I don’t think God would get super close to someone who persisted in that- maybe I’m wrong. God not condemning David’s multiple wives definitely requires explanation because it’s just so confusing. We see God take the child David conceived with Bathsheba so that Israel would know what David did was wicked and God wasn’t with it. If God continued to prosper David without consequence then God would look like He’s okaying a bully murdering and taking peoples wives which God couldn’t allow. The question then becomes, why’d He not condemn the multiple wives? And really, you could say that He did: Neither shall he multiply wives for himself, lest his heart turn away; nor shall he greatly multiply silver and gold for himself. Deut 17 The question here becomes how can David be the man after Gods heart when he did multiply both wealth and wives disobeying the command of God? Another thought is the verse gives reason why the king shouldn’t multiply wealth and wives “lest His heart turn away (from God of course.)” So it could be that multiple wives and wealth isn’t a problem provided the heart isn’t turned away. With wealth I think that’s certainly the case. God gave Job MORE wealth after his charade and he was already the greatest man in the east as the Bible says. So clearly, in regards to wealth God has no problem provided your priorities are straight in your heart. As far as wives surely there’s something wrong with that. Isn’t it carnal? What if it’s not? Is it possible to love and enjoy multiple wives? Or does having multiple automatically mean you’re not acting lovingly toward one? And if that’s the case what if they all feel loved and are perfectly content with their situation- would it then be wrong? Perhaps it was a situation where they all felt loved/taken care of and David was treating them well, while also loving God before all of his wives… In that case would he be breaking the law of God [love God and others]? I’m starting to think not. It really throws a wrench in my cog since there’s no direct condemnation of this form of polygamy, and it certainly doesn’t seem to hinder David or Solomons success or relationship with God. Which is to seem to say Gid is cool with it. God wouldn’t let you so close and give you an everlasting crown if He wasn’t. The problem is it just feels off. Could that be societal programming? I’m not sure. If it were the case that David’s polygamy was not sin then that would be very weird to swallow. It has to be either sin or not sin. If it’s not sin that seems weird. If it’s sin then how could God prosper a man choosing to live in a disobedient lifestyle toward God (unrepentant)? Clearly David was repentant which is to say his wives wearnt a sin in the sight of God?? The more I think about it the more I’m starting to think polygamy can align with Gods law to love God and others provided all the women are perfectly content/not jealous/not wanting and feel perfectly and and adequately loved. The question then is can this ^ even be possible, if no then we’re back to how could God prosper a willing sinner and why then is David a willing sinner when the Bible says he’s not? If yes, then my mind has just be blown out of the water and I want multiple wives. No favoritism in the kingdom right? It couldn’t work for me because me wanting it is carnal, not of pure love so it would break the law of God. And good luck finding a woman that’s cool with you kissing on another… Very very difficult problem here in my opinion.

And as you say God let them have there own choices. Don’t know how he pleased all of them. But in Arabic customs, you are judged by how many wives you have. But we know God made one man and one woman . I do like your subjects, short and you come to the point. I don’t like things long out stretched. I also followed your short teaching on masterbation, that is something nobody could explain to me , weather it was ok or not. i beg you (or your supporters) to respond to this comment so that we may talk about this issue. You are incredibly misinformed on this issue. The question that must first be answered is "is polygyny a sin?". This requires that we first of all know what sin is. 1 John 3v4 we are told that sin is the transgression of the law. Rom 5v13 and 7v7 say the same thing. Sin is defined by the Law. John 1v17 tells us that the law came by Moses while Christ brought grace and truth. Christ did not bring the law and his disciples including his best friend deny that he did. Moses' writings must inform our opinion on matters of morality. Remember that if both paul and John are teaching that Moses ALONE functioned as lawgiver, then that means Christ believed that to. Yahushua is the one that led them to this conclusion about Moses, He taught both men after all. If we are to understand Christ's words and those of His disciples on the topic of marriage we must look to Moses first. Remember the road to Emmaus (Luke 24v27). Please consider the following points: 1)There are no laws in the books of Moses that restrict a man to one woman. In 2 Sam 12v8 Yahuwah tells David that He gave him his master's wives into his bosom. That means that God actively participated in the polygamy of his servants he did not merely tolerate it (a claim found in abundance outside the bible but zero times within it). In addition to this He contrasts the many wives that David received from Him to the wife of Uriah that he took by himself. He says that this was done in contradiction to his commandment. Clearly telling the reader that Yahuwah does not believe that polygyny is against the law he gave to the holy people at Sinai. Remember where there is no law there is no sin. 2) There are laws in the bible that regulate polygyny and teach men how to be good polygynist fathers and husbands. These are exo 21v10 and Deut 21v15. If laws define good and evil then it good to give wives and children their rights in a polygynous home. Men that follow these laws are righteous like all men that obey God's law. Consider the fact that never once are they called sinners yet they are given laws with which to pursue righteousness. 3) Moses' writings teach us what marriage is contractually. In Gen 2 Adam has a rib taken from him then a woman given in exchange. This is a purchase. This depicts Eve, and hence all wives thereafter, as human property, as slaves. This is why these holy men that sleep with multiple women every night were never charged with adultery. Adultery in the Hebrew is Zanah it speaks of covenant breaking. However, the man cannot break that covenant as masters are not accountable to their slaves. That is why Yahuwah has three laws in the ten commandments against polyandry (No adultery, coveting another's wife or stealing.) but not a single one against polygyny. There are many other things to discuss in Moses' law ie the bible that Yahushua read but what i have written will be a good starting point. I appreciate this. I was not raised as a Christian but on evolution so my “teaching said it was natural for a strong male to have sex with multiple female and it seemed pretty normal. Look up Peter Rambo on YT who did a response to this video among many others illustrating exactly how wrong each of them are, and backs it up with actual scripture, not conjecture and reading between the lines like this guy. So you are saying the creator is foolish for not considering your argument. Because Yahuwah championed polygamy. To begin with he made the contract between a man and a woman to be contract of ownership. He made adam give up something of his and then gave him the woman in exchange. This process is called purchasing. Eve according to the bible is human property i.e. a slave. A master does not cheat on his human that he purchased by purchasing another piece of property. That is why the fathers had many wives because Yahuwah made the contract in Gen 1 and 2 to resemble a slave being bought of a slave ship more than he did the pagan ceremony that christians call a wedding. Then Yahuwah championed polygyny again when he made laws to keep men righteous when they take many women (exo 21v10, deut 21v15). Yahuwah championed polygamy again when he actively participated in the polygamy of his servants by giving them wives ( Gen 33v5, 2 sam 12v8, Matt 19v29), he even promised christians his many wives in Isaiah 4v1. When he gave his servants wives he simply gave them women as presents, he never said this stuff about tolerating or free will. Fourthly, Yahuwah championed polygamy by being a polygamist himself. His firstborn son, Christ, is also a polygamist (jer 3, eze 23, 2 cor 11v2, matt 25v1-10) he then states that we should follow his examples of treating a wife in eph5v23. There you have it, four BIBLICAL points demonstrating that Yahuwah championed polygamy and loved seeing it in his servants. Please respond to these specific points point by point as i did with your comment. BTW in order to prove that something is a sin you must have a law (rom 5v13, rom 7v7, 1 john 3v4). You cannot make an argument and then complain that people dont obey your argument. People of Yahuwah must obey His law.
