I judge an arcade based on if it has pinball or not. Arcades from my generation always had pinball

a local arcade near me does ski ball as a loss leader for 25 cents per play. It brings people in and they play retro arcade games and pinball while they wait for ski ball to open up.

Nice video. If money was not an issue (if you were a millionaire), what kind of ideal arcade would you want? -Would you want an FEC like "Dave and Busters" or Round1? -Would you want a Barcade? -Would you want a huge freeplay arcade like Galloping Ghost?

I think here in Texas the industry has shifted , because we have so many bArcades you fall into 2 categories, 1 is FEC which has bowling , ropes course, laser tag and redemption or 2.Barcades which is pay an entry fee ($12-$15) all games on free play coupled with beer and food. I think in Texas if you sell alcohol you must sell food. I personally choose bArcades because they are still focused on the quality of the games/pinball and there is more depth than an FEC that is just interested in you losing your money as fast as possible. Both types are slammed during the weekend down in Texas. I have a concept I am working on but yes failure is always in the back of my mind.

I am also attempting to open a true arcade in my small Texas town. Good luck my friend.

Same as the other I would also tend to give a try at at least redeption-videogames or videmption games as you call them 😅 But perhaps operating the little shop that comes with it is too much extra work on top of maintaining everything else.

Not to mention arcade games are declining too, not just in USA but everywhere else. The arcade in the mall near my workplace used to be very busy in the 2010s, especially those customers had to queue to play Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune even with 4 sets(16 driving cabinets+4 Wangan Terminals). Most other games were played by customers. But now since the pandemic, the arcade is not as busy as it used to be, now they only have 2 sets of WMMT6RR and I hardly seeing any customers playing other games.

In Sydney Australia I've seen the opposite, arcades have been steadily growing over the past 5-7 years. Covid hasn't seemed to slow things down at all, if anything I've seen more expansion. 10 years ago arcades were at their lowest point here but things seem to be on the up. It's not the 80s or 90s at all but it's much healthier.
