The popular vote puts the progressive, pro EU parties on 51 percent of votes cast. Truth is, it's hard to tell what Britain is as a country because the voting system rarely represents the popular vote. There was basically two parties on the Right - with the Tories main rival standing down in marginal constituencies, meanwhile Labour, lib Dem, SNP, Greens all cancelled each other out. Tories could not have won this election without the deal with Farage. The Tories realizing it's not a Two Party system anymore, whereas Labour hasn't.
@inquaanate23935 жыл бұрын
trev moffatt i don’t want a system where people who live in london get the whole say on what goes on in the country, i want distributed representation, not proportional representation. Distributed representation means that even if a party is doing well, individual mps can be removed if they perform poorly. It is superior for representing different communities other than urban livers compared with proportional representation.

This is a simple one. People from the north were once a major part of the industrial base of the UK, where whole communities were built around monolithic institutions. Thatcher laid waste to these communities in the 1980s, creating slag heaps of vice and deprivation. Enough time has now passed where these communities no longer feel bonded to the labour movement which was their voice against class oppression, but has now morphed into champagne socialism. The ironic thing is Jeremy Corbyn was actually a true labour idealist fighting for the everyday man, but held hostage within his own party. In addition to this, masterful demonisation by the conservative incumbent and their lackeys in the media tarnished an honest man. End result will be the North will get shafted once again, but this time it will be of our own volition...

If only Corbyn had gone with Labour Party policy on Brexit the result might have been different. I believe REAL Labour voters in these areas failed to turn out. Eventually those people who claim to be Labour but voted Tory will see Brexit for the folly it is. Look at all the seats Labour did hold onto particularly in Yorkshire the most pro Brexit county in England and despite Brexit Party opposition. The first past the post system has once again left many of us totally unrepresented in Parliament. Some "democracy" that is.
