To be fair, Transylvania had quite the military industry. Over 1000 warplanes, 800 artillery pieces, 16000 machine guns and 1000 mortars were produced by Dracula's land until the end of the war. Parts for tanks, artillery pieces (barrel liners or whole barrels) and even warships were produced in Transy. Transy also made over half of Romania's artillery shells.

Stephen Jenkins - Europes Eastern half of countries past Germany & above Greece (besides Russia) are far less important, popular, & famous to the world compared to Western Europe like with the UK and France. They experienced a delayed in developed progress as compared to Western Europe (even to the half’s of Germany with the West being more prosperous) as well due to putting up with Communist policies. Also due to much more countries to try to keep track of since it’s more fragmented like the Eastern half of the United States to the larger Western states. The populous mainly knows of Poland for being invaded in WW2 & Ukraine for the Chernobyl nuclear meltdown. Aaron Marks yes and they were also the only Axis power to gain territory for the Russian invasion, as a makeup for the vienna conference losses. The Transnistria Governate was akin to the german general Government that ruled ex poland as a slave colony for all of Europe, well transnistia was the same for Romania but on a smaller scale. Odessa was included in the Romanian territory. However since the Romanians were nice and joined the Soviets (who were invading) following a military coup, Romania was given Transylvania back as Hungary (under a german puppet regime following a coup against Horthy) fully resisted the Soviet invasion, however transnistria (and north bukovina/Bessarabia was given back to the Soviet Union

Hitler actually offered parts of the Banat region in serbia to Romania i believe but it declined and for that i thank them. Also no one should really blame the Romanians for joining the axis, their people and what's left of their borders were safe and they could help save the romanian jews a lot better. To see what would have happened if they defied the axis just look at poor Serbia. It got invaded, most of it's territory was taken, the serbs outside of Serbia were constantly persecuted and killed and even the ones in serbia were killed regularly by the nazis as punishment for partisan rebelions. On top of that 90% of yugoslav jews were killed due to there being no one to protect them.

Under German occupation, there were countries who were better and worse about protecting Jews. On the good side there were the Danes (King wore a yellow star of David in solidarity, more or less the entire country conspired to spirit away their Jews to Sweden) and Bulgaria (which basically just acted dumb and refused to cooperate). On the bad side - Romania. The antisemitic frenzy of Romania appalled even the SS, who hated Jews but wanted it done efficiently and systematically. So Romania acted, unfortunately, among the worst of Europe in terms of destroying their Jews. Source: Hannah Arendt, Eichman in Jerusalem. You can also read the relevant wikipedia page.

Alan Pennie true, especially ceausescu who rly concentrated on building a weird national identity, not in the sense that it’s wrong, but in the sense that it concentrates on the part of our people that doesn’t rly influence us that much. What i mean by that is that he focused on the dacian side of our people and not the roman one. It’s true that the dacians in the end got romanised which can be seen clearly through our language, but we didn’t focus on any outside forces like the romans or the hohenzoleren dinasty, (if that’s how you spell it) but rather on legends and historical medieval leaders like Stephan the Great, Iancu Of Hunedoarea, Mircea the Old just to name a few. Now, I’m not saying that those weren’t important, they fucking were vital to our country, but carol the first or ferdinand the first who made our country independent, industrialized it and united it or all the political parties and polticians who were also vital to the developing modern Romania seem truly unforgetable. Although they couldn’t put that in the school books ‘cause monarchy bad and evil.

To expand more, both Hungary and Romania had numerous border incidents in the summer of 1940, were mobilizing and after talks broke down on august 24th the Hungarian army planned to begin attack on the 28th. And while Hungary did not actually want all historical territories back but nevertheless wanted a very big chunk of it, everything north of river Mures which is still more then what they actually gained. Romania on the other hand aimed at only giving back some villages along the border and to solve the rest with population transfer, which was likewise unacceptable to Hungary. So yeah Hitler stepped in the last second and were very much threatening Romania to yield, which is why Hungary was so bold in first place as the Hungarian army itself really had no hopes of victory due to military restrictions being only lifted in 1938, something the high command was absolutely aware of. Also fun fact, notice that strange bump in southern new border? You'd think theres a mountain range or river there but nope, it has no geographical correspondence. Thats the Turda region which had rich gas fields, whos owner hurridly flew to Germany and convinced Göring to keep those lands in Romania.

@@thecringekid5744 No censuses were conducted before the mid-19th century therefor any such claim is speculative at best as it's not based on exact numbers. Naturally both Hungarians and Romanians claim majority but simple fact is its irrevelant. Before nationalist awakening ethnicity or spoken language was a n-th tier aspect of identity, which was primarily dominated by religion and class. A Hungarian peasent was little, if any more valuable in the eyes of a nobleman then a Romanian one. While Romanians do appear to lack much representation as seen in their exclusion from the Three Estates, its important to see that this was an alliance AGAINST PEASENTS of any sort and a direct reaction of a peasent revolt, conducted by German burghers, Szekler military and Hungarian nobility, NOT of three ethnicities. To go on, terms like "Rightful ownership" is a romantic myth which has no other meaning then to galvanize populations and to act as a psychological background. The only thing that matters is de fact and de jur, eg whoever controlls a land and whetever this control is internationally recognized.

Bessarabia voted for unification with Romania in 1918, get your facts straight. Bessarabia was the eastern part of the historical principality of Moldavia and always had Romanian majority. The only reason it didn't unite with Wallachia in 1859, like the rest of Moldavia did (except Bucovina, which was under the boot of the Austrian Empire) is that Bessarabia had been annexed by the Russian Empire in 1812. The Russians also opposed Bessarabia uniting with Romania after the Romanian war of independence (1877-1878), but in 1918 they were too busy managing their new Bolshevik state.

@@notnormal2994 even if you wanted to invade us nowadays, you couldn't. Both Romania and Hungary are part of EU and NATO, and such one's invasion by the other would lead the latter to gain harsh resistance from other countries and economic penalties. Being a Romanian, I truly love my country. It has survived through history as all other countries in the world, with blood shed to keep the culture and originality of people and culture as intact as possible. As a Romanian, I have always appreciated and respected Hungary: it's people, it's culture, I find your language to be so beautiful and unique. And I truly mean it! Would love to visit Budapest one day! :) What happened stays in the past, and we should only learn from it. History has been subjective in so many cases that a Hungarian-Romanian dispute/fight/argument over who deserves to own Transylvania would lead to nowhere, would only do harm and be a waste of time, since both countries and their historians have their own perspectives on what happened. No one knows or holds the absolute, undeniable truth, but God (or whatever external, uncontrollable force we are led by). So let's be friends, if not friends at least understand, support and respect each other without interfering! In these harsh times, being united is essential as hatred, racism, extremist ideologies, lack of communication, and so on only do harm to both sides! The most important conclusion is that we are both humans and have things in common even if we have different religions and different ethnic backgrounds, diversity is so beautiful! Viszlát, jó egészséget és boldogságot kívánok! La revedere, iti urez multa sanatate si fericire! Goodbye, wish you to be very healthy and happy! :)

Romania amd Hungary in 2019 shall be friends, it's the future that demands this. Only toxic politicians feed thoss with a weaker mind and set romanians against hungarians. Are there still problems in our society? Are romanians of hungarian origin still refusing to learn romanian? Yes, there are some. But you will not make them open their minds by telling them how awesome Romania was and is and how Hungary is an accident of luck and schemes. You could say that about half the countries in the world. And considering the many many houndreds of years we lived toghether in peace or war, there should not be a single person who dares to claim ,,we were first,, or ,,we are more something than you,,.

1:15 - This is incorrect. Actually the Hungarians and Romanians were doing the talks in Turnu-Severin (or Szörényvár) but these talks had failed since the Hungarians wanted large swaths of land back while the Romanians only offered a limited zone next to the border. Therefore the Romanians asked the Germans to make a decision. The Germans accepted on the condition that both parties have to accept the results =before= even knowing the details. That is how the Second Vienna Award happened. The decision was made by the german minister of foreign affairs Joachim von Ribbentrop and his Italian collegue, Galeazzo Ciano. Rumor has it, after the decision Ribbentrop sent the following telegram to Hitler: " Complete success! The Hungarian minister burst into tears, and the Romanian one fainted."

All of this is true even when playing HOI4. Every time I tried to stay Neutral I couldn't because my Romanian Lands kept being eaten. so eventually I stopped playing Romania because I didn't want to side with the axis. I concluded that Romania's choice was the only really good decision for the country as a whole. even at the end they got some land back. so win, win.

Yep,we've been trough russian ocupation, fascism, communism and now we are at the bottom of most things. We have a nice country, with rich resources but our politicians are selfish and corrupt.Think about the fact that we had the revolution and eliminated the communists, but the first president of Romania was Ion Iliescu, which was a former member of the communist party.I think that we just need a good president like Carol the first,or maybe we should go back to being a kingdom? Anyway,i wrote this in english so there will be more people that will understand this.I wish you the best of luck, brother!

Aaron,it's not that easy.Unlike Romania,Basarabia(Or the Republic of Moldova as its called) was a part of the Soviet Union. And boy,let me tell you, they influenced them A LOT.Their president is pro-russian and would rather unite with Russia than Romania. What is sad is that we are pretty much the same people,we speak almost the same language(a few russian words here and there like"borș")and we fought for unity with all the principalities that were under foreign rule(Transylvania,Bucovina,Basarabia).A unitited Romania is a patriotic dream that will remain in our minds and hearts untill it is fulfilled Im sorry if got out of context,i like speaking about history and especially my country!
