And it's fast in normal space/atmosphere, you could outrun most ships, including official ones. What would be interesting is what upgrades could be done, the obvious is better hyperdrive. But could it be made faster and given a Millennium Falcon style handling pack and real space speed boost ? The one modification I would definitely make though is to move (or add) the main guns to turrets mounted on the side or top and bottom, for better coverage.

I actually like this Ship more than the falcon. -Get a droid crew(3) -Convert one of the four quarters into a recharge/repair station for them. Leaving the three other rooms open to redesign. -Possibly leave two alone for Captain quarters and guest quarters. -And lastly modify the last room to be a *BATHROOM!!!*

@@jackrutledgegoembel5896 The Essential Guides and visual dictionaries have it as a pretty well established feature of technology that turbolasers are too big, too energy hungry, and run too hot to mount on anything that does not qualify as capital ship. I think this was a writer not knowing the difference between a laser cannon and a turbolaser, and thinking "turbolaser" just meant, "bigger than normal laser cannon."

A modern day example (as there is better variety of weapon levels) of this ship would be arming a small cargo ship with 120mm / 76mm guns like modern destroyers, and Cruise Missiles. When cannons are the only thing, yeah, everyone had cannons. When cruise missiles are also a thing, that's not just put on anything. Remember, this thing has the starwars equivalent of cruise missiles / torpedoes (depending on how you look at it). But I do see your point.

Also, they are usually quite easy to maintain. Cruise missiles are not. They are insanely expensive, high maintenance and they require a high number of skilled crew members in order to maintain and operate them. Also, they are not exactly easy to come by. But then again, why would you use something like a cruise missile when cheap guns that are easy to operate and to maintain will do the job just fine? Remember, that thing already has turbo lasers, which means it packs a _massive_ punch, missiles or not. And the US Air Force is starting to use small propeller-driven planes for certain tasks again. Why sending an extremely complicated and expensive jet fighter when a small propeller plane can do the same job for only a fraction of the money and with only a fraction of the crew that is required and maybe can even do it better?

@@NoOnesBCE Alright, for a Star Wars Light Freighter that is a pretty decent amount of cargo room. Light Freighters, aka Tramp Freighters, are basically the Utility Van of the Star Wars world. Cheap enough for an individual to afford them, and modestly capable, but only as long as you don't compare it to anything bigger. Medium Freighters could carry multiples of this ship in their cargo bay and have room to spare.

I fell in love with this ship when I first saw it in the Age of Rebellion book, way back when. Saw the writing on the wall, took out a considerable loan from the Hutts, and bought one before they were banned. Even got all the right paperwork, so stops were less painful. 'Course, it helped that I usually had a few Rebel scum in the 'ol prison bay to get across exactly whose side I was on. Guess I bet on the wrong gundark, though. Not many that look too favourably on Imperial Loyalists after the revolution.

When I think of this ship. I think the rebels would use it as a light dropship. It is able to get in, land, drop off troops and equipment, and leave in a short amount of time. It could also provide close air support in certain situations.

Actually if you just add another cargo compartment between the engines in the cockpit now you've got all the room in the world for dual Shields extra lasers extra torpedoes and extra bunks you could probably make a larger medbay as well. According to Specs it's a little shorter than the Millennium Falcon so if you added extra cargo bay it would be right about the same length as the falcon put some better engines on it put a better hyperdrive with the aforementioned weapons and Shields and now you have a very very serious gunboat.

I like this ship although I would delete the ion cannons on the front for two gun blisters on the top and bottom. It would literally provide a 360 degree field of fire with all weapons. I like to judge Star Wars ships based on how well they can attack and/or defend themselves from multiple threats.

I wish there were more information out there about the Wayfarer-Class Medium Transport/Freighter. It seems like a really cool from both a concept and design standpoint, but measurements like height are completely absent, and (in the original floor-plan) the scale of objects within the ship are... troublesome, while the engines apparently take up no space at all.

Always wondering how the SW "freighters" are supposed to fit any cargo in. These have about as much cargo space as a modern truck. Even the smallest coastal freighters will carry 20x as much. Not good for much else than smuggling.

Yeah it has a lot of firepower for its size, but almost all of it is in the form of fixed, forward facing, cannons. Where are the moving turrets? Freighters don't get attacked from the front. If it gets attacked from behind all it has are a few missiles, and if it's attacked from the side... SOL. This thing isn't built to defend, but to attack. Its like it was custom built for pirates and rebels. Its fast and can deliver a lot of firepower to something ahead of it, preferably small capital ships... its a hit-n-run attack freighter. I really wonder what the designers for Star Wars were thinking sometimes, all the ships have such glaring issues. Like exposed bridges, huge blind spots, no weapons on the bottom, no weapons on the back, no point-defense on capital ships, etc. Its like they didn't realize that they are operating in a 3 dimensional battlefield.

I like to think that exposed bridges and no weapons on the bottom is a kind of thing that everyone just can't figure out too well in universe. The real life reason is because space combat was supposed to invoke the feeling of ww2 and earlier naval combat. Guns and bridge on top of ship, torpedoes launched from planes (starfighters).

Honestly if I would come across rebels while flying this freighter I would open fire immediately, considering that their not much better than criminals in regards to pirating. Furthermore, they're one of the main reasons for imperial crackdowns and heightened security and difficulty navigating the trade lanes

The Empire did have a point, it's a heavy hitter head on, with no point defense at all… It's not an armed freighter, it's an attack freighter ! Let me explain… Those guns (except for the ion cannon) are in fixed forward mounts. So this is just a big unwieldy turbo laser and blaster equipped fighter that has to be pointed at the target. It would be a sitting duck for snub fighters except for the concussion missiles, and once those are gone (or if the fighters hang above, below or on the side, basically anywhere but front or back) it's toast. The weapon layout is more suited for attacking medium shipping in front of it, basically it's optimised for raiding, not protecting against raiders. It's a fresh out of the box pirate ship. See freighter, catch up to it with superior speed, fire powerful main guns at shields, weapons and engines and use ion cannon for final disable. Threaten destruction or just board, the only issue is access via cargo ramp. It's main defense against attackers is to turn and fight head on, and hope that it's more maneuverable, or just stop and spin to aim, which sacrifices it's speed advantage. Otherwise expend limited expensive missiles on a ship that's supposed to turn a profit. A far better design would be to move the turbo lasers to turrets and add laser cannon (from the wing mounted blasters ?) turrets as well, either have mixed mounts of both types in two turrets on opposite sides (either top and bottom, or side by side). Or have four turrets, two turbo laser, two laser cannon, one on each side/top/bottom, but that increases gunner requirements. And why did it need three gunners in standard format ? The turbo lasers and blasters could be fired by the pilot by aiming the ship, that left the ion cannon in a front chin turrent for those considerate enough to attack a armed freighter head on, and the missile launchers…Hang on, did each launcher have it's own dedicated gunner ? The Millennium Falcon or similar ship could tear it apart by hanging to the side and wearing it down with turrent guns while avoiding the killzones with superior maneuverability. It has obvious, well known clearly defined weapons coverage dead spots, basically anywhere but the front (and the rear if you don't have missile countermeasures or can't shoot them down !). Any nimble ship with a turrent could niggle it to death as long as the missiles can't turn back and hit a target hanging next to the ship. Now a freighter is supposed to deter attackers by firing at them with (cheap plentiful gas ammo) guns while running, so they realise that if they pursue they will cope a lot of damage and may be disabled. Not launch part of its limited missile inventory at anyone that gets to close, which is hard to do as a warning shot and expensive. Now what would be interesting is what could be done to it with modification. Adding lots of extra point defense guns (and the power to run them) and converting the cargo space to missile magazines. It's then a powerful gunboat before you even start with performance upgrades and milspec sensors ect. But as a freighter that's supposed to deter pursuers it has obvious weak spots. As the one doing the pursuing it's already optimised.

It's faster then the Falcon so it would be hard to use as you describe when it could out manuever the falcon or out run it while firing missiles at it then come about and unload on it. In order for the falcon to win it needs to be faster.

Well, if you shoot them with an ion cannon, it has the same effect as shooting someone with anything big enough to be called a cannon, namely that person scattering in all directions. For a handheld ion weapon, I would assume its the equivalent of a taser that also burns your skin

Keep all your paperwork in reach along with recordings of you making the purchase so when the imps stop you it's all out there in the open and they can't play dumb. Stick to populated systems where the imps aren't well liked and are closely watched. Or trade with the hutts but that brings it's own pitfalls.

Turbolasers... But no laser cannons. No laser turrets. Kinda dumb to be honest, should have at least a couple of dual laser turrets. Also: those "dual turbolasers" are about as big as the guns on the ghost. They shouldn't be turbolasers, just lasers. If they are, then the winglet guns are lasers.

After careful consideration, this may be my new favorite SW ship. The old was probably the N-1. If I could take 5 sw vehicles home, they would be this ship; all weapons would be for defense. Next is the N-1, preferably with astromech. It would be for if I want to show off. Third is a more human friendly version of the STAP. 4th definitely the LA-AT. It would be nice to have removable chairs and racks with tie downs. Both could have an interchangeable lock in system; chairs for more passengers, racks for transporting small things and empty for large items like furniture (it might need a way to deal with the aforementioned system). Ok, the 5th vehicle would be the AT-TE. Obviously for most of these I would want a crew of some kind, but non-vehicles to bring back is a different story.

I really like this ship, lol, we were playing SW RPG 3.5 version, lol, and my smuggler saw one sitting in a imperial impound lot. bought it for like a quarter the price cause it was stripped of all weapons. lol, thankfully its a CEC and modiular like the yt-1300s to a degree. lol, cranked the engines up a bit to 1100 kph. lol, some shields, and hidden banks of quad cannons (4 on each side, 180 degree turret) and some various other crap. lol, it was a fun ship

Fantasy Flight Star Wars fouled up the specs, leaving out the turbolasers entirely, dropping one of the launchers, and generally nerfing the entire ship - while raising the price. Per FFSW, it's generally equivalent to the YT-2400, and more then 3x the price.

At 6 meters tall it can't have very much head room for its crew and cargo. It would be more akin to a submarine than it would be anything else... the YT-1300, at 8 meters tall, had only 1 deck, that extra space being filled by the guts of the ship. Either this thing is bigger than reported, its capacities are smaller than reported or the YT-1300 is a very inefficient design space wise, (Modularity may play a role in that)... Been trying to wrap my head around its deck plan and stats for a week now. I need to buy some graph paper !!

I honestly think a YV-929 a bigger size so it could have a docking bay, and with a hammer head and armor like the gozanti class cruiser after upgrades but with better armaments, something I never figured out is why more larger ships in star wars did not have a massive barrel running down the length of them armored and hidden or other such in customized designs. a YV-929 if they made it twice or three times or four times the size of the YT-1300 or such would have been interesting maybe.

If I made something for Star Wars I would create this solar system large republic called The Càt’tar republic and it has 3 planets and 4 stars. The 4 stars are the the Stars Myriad A,B,C, and D A is a white dwarf, B is a k type and C and D are both m types. The three planets are the planets of Creet which is a marsh planet for mining orbiting Myriad C and it has one astroid moon as a defense base (Just in case) than their is Càt’tar which orbits Myriad A and B and it has 2 moons, one is Vilvo which is a scrap moon filled with space junk and mountain’s of broken ship, droid and engine parts than their is Vettito which has lava everywhere with small volcano islands. Finally their is Tetanito, the gas planet that also orbits Myriad A and B, it has 10 moon’s all of which are unnamed. The Càt’tar republic has space freighter’s but they are larger than any space freighter, they are close to the size of star destroyers and they carry lots of cargo but the biggest is the Interstellar Enterprise which was the largest space freighter in the galaxy. It got hit by a gammaRay burst and now it drifts around the galaxy. Càt’tar trades with anyone, even if the people they are trading to fight against each other. Càt’tar with its 4 stars has this annual event every 50 years and it is when the 4 Myriad’s make a diamond ♦️ shape. Myriad A is at the bottom, Myriad B is at the top and Myriad C is to the left and Myriad D is to the right. That is also the symbol for the republic itself. Càt’tar freighter’s have a 4 ft thick copper exterior, a thin 0.5 inch layer of Beskar which the planet Creet has lots of in deep pockets and a 11.5 inch layer of Agrinium and than a last 1 inch layer of steel. Càt’tar freighter’s are big, expensive and they aren’t armed so few Càt’tarian fighter carrier’s that carries 10 or 20 fighters help protect Càt’tarian freighter’s. The Càt’tar republic can be found at the outer most reaches of the galaxy and though their freighter’s are low on defense they do have shields to protect themselves. The only true week point on the freighter’s are the control center of the ship because it is made almost out of glass, the glass is 5 ft and 1 inch thick like the walls of the ship itself but it can break by fire power and if the control center is destroyed than the ship can go out of control and it can also go on to self destruct mode and it can explode. Self destruction is a last defense against an enemy because it sends huge prices of ship to the enemy but self destruction is a last resort for Càt’tar freighter’s.

The empire should have pumped out these instead of TIE Fighters...sure you don't get a far less nibble spaceship...but you get more than 4 times the fighting power for 4 times the prize. I mean in a straight up fight this thing wreaks TIE fighters for breakfast. Having a fleet of these sounds scary. You could even retrofit it for military use with less cargo hold and more weapons/shield until it becomes a small fortress that you can deployy in numbers to just swarm the enemy. Ask me...that thing is what the empire really needed

The very front of this vessel looks almost like the Republic's Consular-class diplomatic cruiser. Another Correllian vessel. The front looks like a towering cockpit structure on top of a cylindrical element with some slight forward overhang ahead of the cylindrical piece.
